Best post of the thread. I even agree with the coffee shop bit. I love Apple products as much as the next guy, but I can't stand the aura around Apple lately, everyone is defending every dumb decision Apple makes and it seems that people are just hoping on Apple now because it's trendy.

Yup, all mac users sit around in coffee shops sipping there mocha toka choka lattes hoping everyone looks at them.

Seriously that stereotype is getting just as old as the Vista is a unuseable piece of garbage.

Its just that I love Apple and macs but I never post on Dell related forums so that I can bash on Dells because I just dont care for their laptop/desktops. Whatever Dell lovers saids or touts about the Dell products, thats fine with me everyone has different love for anything in this world.

Dell lovers?
Just because I'm a Mac user and have been since 1988-1989, doesn't mean I use Macs exclusively or think that they continue to be excellent, nor that they are the epitome of good useable design. And just because I, for one, think that quite a lot of argumentation on this based is based on ignorance, hear-say and a vacuum of real-world needs, doesn't mean that I suddenly am a "lover" of whatever else is discussed. I am fairly certain this goes for most other people here who aren't willing to let Apple decide that they don't need what they use every day to make a living. Those people are the same people willing to check out what else is out there.

Btw, one laptop-brand I really DO like are Thinkpads and to a lesser degree Toughbooks. Apple hardware? No, not anymore. This MBP I'm typing on as we speak will be my last Mac.

Please, in any of my posts point out where I said all mac users were like that. Why do you insist on starting a flame war? I'm a mac user, by the way. I use OSX 90% of the time and I only use Windows for programming homework. So don't think I'm some windows user here just to start a fight.

I, for one, do not. And most of the socalled "whiners" around here doesn't. But it seems like "looks" is THE major concern for a lot of the fanboys.

Also curious, what is it about the macbook pro that turned you away from Apple?

Then why do you bring it up? And no im not starting a flame war, im wondering why people insist on using the same baseless stereotypes as some sort of response as to why apple has chosen to do something.

Apple does what Apple wants, simple as that.

And I guess I have to put a disclaimer on this thing because the internet is really bad at setting the tone across. I am NOT trying to sound hostile or anything or start flame wars, simply wondering why people continue to do this kind of thing.

Ive never thought u were a windows user trying to start a fight, for the most part here you try to do something admirable: counter ignorance. Thats why I was thrown for a loop when you threw that little coffee shop tidbit in.

Anyway, cheers, no hostility or anything of that nature is meant by this.

Cheers:)

What's wrong with posting on MacRumors complaining about Apple's hardware again?

I own a Dell inspiron but I dont go on Dell forums to whine about some issues I have with it, especially with windows. Yet I stick with being on macrumors to talk about apple hardware because I love it so much and not because I hate it as with everyone else.

You buy a certain computer brand because you love them not hate them is my point.

Maybe you should.

Complain some more here too on other issues. You might get progress and *gasp* help.

Well that website is strictly for complaining, but this is macrumors, its about rumors about the mac. SHEESH~

BTW the dell works just fine but everyone complains about little minor things thats no big deal. I just use the Dell to play some computer games, thats about it.

Also curious, what is it about the macbook pro that turned you away from Apple?

Long story. Very long story. But the highlights are these:

More than 1.5 years of sending my computer to Ireland, the Netherlands, and to "service centers" here in Denmark, having motherboards etc. exchanged.

Having to deal with Apple Ewwrope.

Dwindling QC at the factories making the laptops.

Bugs in leopard

Removal of features – both in the os and hardware wise

Downgrades in hardware – such as the Agere chipset instead of the TI ditto.

Removal of firewire.

Going glossy and a generel focus on lowest denominator consumer-only.

Lack of support – both OS-wise and hardware-wise. I am tired of having to use more and more work-arounds to be compatible.

And, finally, but this is more "political": I don't want to support a company that not only focuses entirely on said L-D consumers but also tries to tie everyone into the iTunes store, giving the consumer less choice.

Well, that was the short story. If you want a longer one, it will be in another thread.

Please allow me to share my experience.
I was ready to move away from a PC notebook.
I took a day off from work, drove and hour each way and spent 4 hours at an apple store.
People there were great and actually showed me a lot without the pc sucks attitude.
When all said and done there were two things that detered my decision moving into a mac.
The first being the lagging technology in the hardware configurations.
Sony, toshiba, dell, and HP were all offeing bluray, hdmi and fall safe harddrives.
The second was the price. The apple was within my budget but leaning against the higher end bar.

I have siad and continue to say they are very nice machines and they stiill do intrigue me in appearance, feeling, and display features.

I had a very difficult time spending nearly $600 more without getting some features I really wanted and much lesser of a warranty.

Why am I here if I am a PC user. Learning more about the mac line up, future offerings, itunes, and the iphone and hoping I can provide answers, advice and opinions.

thank you for allowing me to venture into your humble abode

Wasnt apple one of the first to implement those drives?

Please excuse the way I worded it.

I meant to refer the three items as the major hardware features i was looking for.

thank you for pointing that out

If you read carefully Tosser brought up the stereotype. Anyway he didn't even acknowledge the stereotype, he simply alluded to it, since people were arguing that they should spend $700 more dollars on a Mac over the Dell because of the looks.

Yes. You explained it much better than I could have. :)

I just thought everything you said was reasonable except these 3 things.

The 15" still has the faster fw800 and the 17" mbp still offers Matte for the professionals especially with the 1920x1200 resolution needed to do better color work or any other work requiring all the space needed.

But what removal of features in hardware and os are you speaking of though..? I came from a powerbook g4 1.67ghz 17" not too long ago and to me seems like both hardware and OS seems to be improving with more features.

The 15" still has the faster fw800 and the 17" mbp now offers Matte for the professionals especially with the 1920x1200 resolution needed to do better color work.

The 15" has the Agere FW-chipset – rendering it useless for audio production. The Expresscard slot doesn't work properly with FW adaptors, even if said adaptors use the TI chipset. So, in reality, it is not even close to an option.

The 17 incher will most likely have the same problems, plus on that super-sized computer (I REALLY don't want a 17incher) they have removed the possiblity of bringing along an extra battery –*which makes it impossible from the get-go. The thing is, one thing I have learned from using recorders et al in the field is "always bring extra batteries". This is impossible with that one.

On the rest, they have gone glossy. And if you think about, yes, there is an option to get the 17" in matte, but until yesterday, it came in matte. They are moving towards all-glossy as they have done on the rest of their line-up.

Removal of firewire, switching to a chipset so the remaining FW connectors are practically unuseable, nixing one out of two FW connectors, removing the choice of matte (don't say I can get the 17 incher – I do not want a 17 inch "laptop"), removal of modem, and so on.

OS-wise, even something as simple as having your phone connected via bluetooth and receive and send sms via Address Book (they popped up on screen when one was received) was removed in Leopard. It worked splendidly in Tiger.
Under OS X, although at times buggy, it used to be tat I could use an expresscard adaptor to connect a fw-device. This I cannot do anymore, unless I log into Windows. Not even under Tiger – which wasn't like that. A year and a half ago or so, this at least worked in Tiger, but not anymore.

Oh, I didn't mention the MBA, as basically every god damn feature is nonexistant on that oversized and keyboarded PDA. Likewise with the iPhone and how it ties into the iTunes Store.

They took firewire out of the Macbook. Sure it's still in the other notebooks, but now you have to pay $2,000 just to get firewire in a laptop (excluding the lowest end for some reason)
and you have to pay nearly $3,000 just to get a matte screen. Believe it or not there are some users that prefer matte screens simply because it's easier on the eyes, especially since Apple tries to balance out the glare with a ridiculously bright screen.

No matter how you cut it they took FireWire out of the macbook and they took matte out of all laptops, except their power horse 17 incher.

Fair enough, I guess everyone has their own reasons to use specific machines.

Just for me I have no need for the differences of agere or TI chipsets nor glossy or matte, extra batteries, dial up modem.

I guess its about time apple aboarded the intel + consumer ship, I guess thats where you make the most money.

SDHC actually is on the way out, to be replaced by SDXC...

Well, the standard hasn't been ratified yet, plus it has the same form factor as SDHC, and since one could most likely do a firmware update as with SD->SDHC to make it work, I don't really see how the form factor (as that is what we're discussing, basically) is on the way out.

The thing is, SDHC isn't on the way out. It can't be, unless something else is in the market, pressing it out. And at this point in time, it's not even close.

Had a dell before, no thank you. That things got a little track pad, and looks kinda chunky/heavy. Plus, i dont think i could give up the two finger double click, two finger scroll, and all the rest of the multigoodness:D. And mag-safe, might be a fire hazard but its a computer saver lol
