Uh yeh there is tax by law. If the store has a location in your state they must collect sales tax if your state has sales tax.

So 5% means nothing if your state sales tax is 5% or more. It basically pays your sales tax or most of it.

Same difference as ordering it from B&H or other store out of state the doesnt have a location in your state so you dont pay sales tax

I'm fully expecting to be charged the tax but couldn't they at least tell you what the tax is before you submit the order? Or at the least tell you that tax can't be displayed until the order ships. All they do is mark it as $0 with no disclaimer.

They show tax for regular purchases, must be a bug with preorders. I'll be getting mine for in store pickup tomorrow with my RedCard from a tax free state. Yay, savings! And they open at 8am so if they screw me, I can still get to the Apple Store for store opening.

Someone mentioned this in a post, but I'll expand on it.... Verizon is honoring their $200 off contract pricing (2 year agreement, $10/mo for access) for all iPad Pro 9.7 models. Price breaks down to the following:

32gb: $529.99
128gb: $679.99
256gb: $829.99

You'll need a Verizon account, figure $40 activation fee (may be waived if you ask).

Previous post mentioned Sprint matched this pricing so if you have another carrier it may be work asking!

Cellular models there will be deals because they want to lock you into paying monthly to them.

But WIFI models as everyone can see there simply is no "best deal" as it depends where you live. The best you can hope for is not to pay sales tax if you live in any state but the 4 only that dont charge tax.

In a state without tax, well obviously you always get the best deal since any % off doesnt go towards paying the sales tax and is off the item price.

I feel that the $73.03 I got off my 128 GB wifi model at Target using Target card and 5% promo code is a best deal.

Unless you have no sales tax then the 10% pays your sales tax.

So if your sales tax is 7% then you saved 3% or $22 vs. ordering from a store that doesnt charge tax like B&H.

We're talking small amounts in the scheme of $600-800 though here (unless you live in a state without sales tax). Some areas are higher as they have a local sales tax combined with state.

Not a one size fits all but the "best deal" varies where you live. but dodn't expect massive savings here.

To each his own. I prefer dealing with Target rather than a store in another state. The 3% buys me a basic case. I also like that my sales tax is supporting programs in my state.

Occasionally, there are deals on gift cards on ebay for stores you can buy ipads from. Last week, ebay had Staples $100 gift cards for $85 with a limit of 5. I picked up 5, which means I got $500 of gift cards for $425. I pre-ordered through Staples the 32gb, which resulted in $525 before tax out of my pocket instead of $600. I don't know when the next deal like this will come up but they do periodically. Other than that, your best bet is to wait for sales/promotions.

Nice score!

My sales tax is 6%, but even if it was 7% - since when is saving $22 more not the better deal?

Depends how long you have to wait for one and is $22 is worth that in the grand scheme. I know for instance Staples is saying almost 2 weeks for ship or store pickup as of this morning- April 11th; and has been April for a while. Sure, if you could do the gift card thing there and save $75 that's one thing.

Pre-order is simply that at many of these retailers, and these stores dont guarantee stock tomorrow. Only Apple does since they actually reserve one specifically for your order/pickup and dont sell it to someone else who walks in the door.

I'm fine with waiting a little longer to save $73.

It's also worth noting that unlike large retail chains like Best Buy, Apple and Target, MacMall only collects sales tax in CA, NY, IL, WI, MN, CO, TN, NC and GA. This will yield even greater savings for readers outside those states.

[doublepost=1459347159][/doublepost]Target Rep said No sales tax for me (No. Jersey)

Macmall like other retailers, only has to collect tax in states it has a physical location in. It can elect to in other states or if that state's tax law requires it regardless of location.

It's a state by state thing.

And I guarantee you the Target rep is wrong. Target has stores in every continental state that Im aware of.

Well, technically you should pay tax regardless. Whether you choose not to and stiff your local taxing authority is your decision. But decisions have consequences.

In regards to Target, I'm not stiffing anyone.

I'm aware of that. Although there are times I won't be taxed for Amazon purchases purchased through Amazon. I recently bought the Apple Pencil and it was taxed, but the %5 helped keep it at $99. My part of Jersey has the 3.5% tax break, in Hudson County. Savings is savings. It wasn't until recently I remember getting a notice from Amazon that they would start taxing items bought on-line for NJ. Jersey is funny on what they tax, then when they do, they tax it to death. I'll follow Up if I did or didn't
[doublepost=1459351704][/doublepost]Any amount you save whether % off, no tax, coupons, etc.. Is a great deal on a new Apple item, regardless. :):apple:

Amazon is weird with tax sometimes they do sometimes they dont. I think it depends if it is fulfilled by Amazon or a 3rd party (and if they have locations in your state) buy not sure on that. Amazon never charged tax and now they do but sometimes and in some states

It looks like only in some states though: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=468512

Macmall is a good call though. The 32gb WIFI model is $594 shipped which is still a good deal. Unfortunately they are on backorder, just checked.

I think most of the places that dont charge tax were hit up first by a lot of people. Im pretty sure B&H is long sold out too.

In the grand scheme of things Im not going to wait a month to save 6% though; a whole $32. If anything Ill order from Staples and just wait until April 11th and pick it up from the store; it's only a week from Monday and get 5% cash back on my business credit card (office supply store category) which basically pays the tax.

Or I may just say screw it and pick one up if a store locally has one. I dont fret over $30 in the grand scheme of a work tool.

My Target status says backordered, but the delivery estimate is mon-thurs. I think I'll be ok using an Air 2 until then.

Anyone else with a target order seeing the order show "Backorder" but shows the delivery date being 3/31 still?

^^ might want to edit to remove your name.
[doublepost=1459355472][/doublepost]Target isn't generally in the business of selling things that have a future release date. Therefore I think the 'backordered' term is just their gimmicky way of saying that your order is in the queue but the item isn't 'available' yet.

Personally don't care if its just my name being shown but for all I know its some rule on here so I've edited it accordingly.

I have accepted the fact that no deal will beat the 22% cash back + edu discount I received on the 12.9" iPad Pro. RIP my Discover card.
