I went with BANDHPHOTO since it's out of state for me and saved nearly 90$, enough to pay for a new pencil.

Costco has 128/256GB models for $20 off. And you can return it in 90 days. That's a good amount of time to hunt for better price.

I got a pretty good deal from Apple.

Well, looks like B&h photo isn't shipping today, bummer.

Big reason i didnt order from them; they couldn't answer any questions about stock or timing. For the 5-6% saved in tax ($32 on $599) not worth it to me.

Meanwhile, I don't really mind not getting mine the same day it's released (or heck even within 30 days) so for the $100 saved (9% sales tax + $3 environmental fee), I'm fine waiting. All it means is my mom will have to suffer through her iPad 3 a bit longer as she'll be getting my iPad Air a little later. :)

ditto.. 10% is what it costs here in my area of CA..like I said, nearly paid for a free pencil. I'm okay waiting.

Well it's not really FREE money unless you dont pay any sales tax in your state to begin with, versus what ordering from B&H without sales tax would've been. That was the point really.

It just offsets any sales tax and maybe a tiny bit on top. Like for example CA which has 7.5% tax, so 10%-7.5%= 2.5%.

So you offset your total tax and then saved 2.5% off retail price. Versus ordering from somewhere like B&H which was no tax to begin with and $5 off retail.

So even if your iPad is $800 its a $15 difference between 10% locally paying tax and something like B&H with no tax and $5 below MSRP. This was the whole argument earlier, people aren't accurate computing savings.

It highly depends on your state tax and what model you got obviously.

Despite trolls, I couldn't care less personally where you got it from or what deal (buying the $599 model $20-30 isn't worth the hassle as its a business tool/expense to me). But let's at least state it accurately and factually if giving others advice where to buy per the thread topic.

Standard CA state sales tax is 7.5% (6.25% state + 1.25% mandatory local) but certain counties and municipalities have higher rates. Los Angeles County is 9% and there are certain cities within the county that are 10% (e.g. Pico Rivera). I believe San Francisco County rates are higher than LA County. Yeah, sales tax in CA is a pain for small online retailers as they pretty much vary by zip code.

Mind, 10% discount with 10% sales tax is slightly better than no discount and no sales tax (1-0.1)*(1+0.1)=0.99. However, I'm not seeing any local retailer offering a 10% discount at the moment.

Looks like good availability, so I'll wait a bit to see who starts discounting.

I probably would have jumped already if it wasn't for the $150 price increase over the iPad Air 2 when it came out for the size I need (I was able to clean up and get down to 38gb, but would really hurt to go any lower). $729 for the 64gb Cellular Air 2 vs. $879 for now the 128gb Cellular Pro.

I just want to say thanks to the OP for starting this thread. I had already planned on getting mine from target using my redcard in a tax free state but this thread alerted me to the extra 5% off coupon. I saved $73 with no extra effort. (And this iPad Pro screen is amazing!) Thanks, OP!

Very lucky to be tax free. Otherwise it wouldn't have been nearly as cheap grand total.

Lucky man, I'm sure if I had stuck with the Wifi only model as I originally intended(Only way I have ever bought an iPad) I would have gotten my order delivered today.

It sucks that they screwed you over. I was prepared to get screwed too with target getting no in store stock but luckily they had one unit when I checked online this morning so I snapped it up. I have a full price preorder at Best Buy in store pick up waiting for me too which I was prepared to settle for if need be but I'm happy to have the savings.

Yeah, it is what it is. I'm just happy to get one today. Do you like in a tax free state? Being in NY we get dinged almost 9% so I was expecting to get charged an extra $75 or so once it shipped so it would have turned into a $50ish savings in the end. Calling it a day and going to enjoy my new toy in a few hours.

Sometimes that's more important than $25 in the grand scheme of a device you're going to keep at least 1 year.

You're talking worrying about $2/month. That's why I find so many user's posts comical about penny scraping all stressed out; but then will go blow it on eating out/fast food and $6 Starbucks anyway.

All people see is up front price difference, but then forget to amortize that over at least 12 months of use you will get out of it.

Yeah it's nice but they get you in other ways, like home property taxes, higher prepared meals tax, and lower services for the needy. But when making major purchases like a car, it's nice. :)

It was a coupon some customers received. I actually didn't get the coupon, but I called target.com customer service and they agreed to honor the additional 5%. You can try that and see if it works for you.

I just got mine! A day after launch, and saved a few $. Why not? Sold my Air 2, got a few breaks from Target, and out of pocket expense is at $100. Not bad..
Now, the new 9.7 iPad Pro, is amazing! I like the 4-speaker arrangement, and the new screen features. The speed is noticeable, had the 9.3.1 update and it beat out my 6S by a few minutes. Had the glass screen protector already lined up, so that's taken care of. Now I'm waiting on the cases, that'll be here tomorrow. Just did a fresh install and I'm only an hour on it, so there's much to do still. Just wanted to share with my Target crew! . J/k, hope everyone enjoys their new tool/toy.
