All I got told yesterday by Target was it is likely that they are waiting for more stock and its 50/50 it will ship on time. Kind of ridiculous to state that when I can go place a new order on the website for the same exact item and they are still offering street date delivery for tomorrow for $15. I even asked if I could get the shipping fee waived in the event I don't get it tomorrow and the gentleman said no.

I'd call back and b$tch again, especially if it doesn't show up tomorrow. Last time I called over a website glitch, they were falling over themselves to give me free credits for my inconvenience. (And it was only like a $20 purchase.)

As I said, you are PREORDERING. There is no guarantee of any shipping time or stock there just because Apple does. That is merely an assumption

As I said, if I can find one locally I am not going to hold back to save $32 (on a 32gb WIFI model). YMMV depending on what model you want.

I'll definitely be calling if thats the case. What is weird is they must have 2 versions of the website in use. The 'older' one is what I placed my order with and it shows expected delivery date as 3/31, no mention of backorder. It is the 'new' version of the site that shows the screenshot I posted above.

Charge is still pending on my Redcard as well.

I wouldn't place a new order and pay more for shipping, because you'll be even more annoyed if you don't get it tomorrow. I hope you get it tomorrow, though!

If thats the case then they shouldn't be offering the option to get it on the release date and charge extra for that privilege either.

Actually, when the retailer's website says that it will arrive on 3/31, I think it's fair to expect such.

No plan on making a new order and losing all my discounts. I was just adding one to the shopping cart as a test.

Extra for what? You paid the retail price and shipping. Just because you paid for faster shipping if that's what you mean cannot make stock appear fro thin air to ship you. You will get it faster when they have stock than someone else who they fill the order. Im sure their website is riddled with disclaimers how that estimate is subject to item availability as well.

Let's all just be realistic here. Retailers have ALWAYS worked this way and done with this Apple pre-orders. This is not the first time/year.

They're still advertising 3/31 delivery date if you pay for express shipping. If they don't have stock to fulfill that then the website should reflect that.

Stulaw I don't really get why you're trying to convince everyone that it's not worthwhile to save a little money on this product. $20-30 off is still a savings in my book. Many of us are paying more for the 128GB model due to there being no 64GB option, and quite a few of us in this thread got 10% off and saved around $75.

No one is disagreeing what they see or dont see or should or shouldn't do.

But there's a reality and a fantasy view of the situation here here and now. If it hasn't shipped by end of day today it's not coming tomorrow; and they will likely just credit you the shipping costs.

Congrats but again I used 32gb prices as an example for a reason. NEVER did I say, and in fact specifically said $75 is a different story, not to save money.

But rather that it was one's own decision where to get it (the thread topic) depending on how long you want to wait and based on your state's sales tax.

AGAIN saving 10% even the "best" deal at Target (Redcard and having this alleged coupon) and your state charges 7.5% tax(max in the US) then you saved 2.5% vs. ordering it from Macmall or B&H. NOT 10%. 6% sales tax you saves 4%, NOT 10%.

If you only get the 5%, congrats you paid your sales tax in most states, not cheaper than Macmall or B&H with no sales tax to begin with.

People are not properly stating what they are saving is the issue because they have some twisted idea they wont be charged tax from a big box retail store and/or convoluting the numbers.

Again, it still seems like you're trying to convince me I didn't save money by cancelling my Apple preorder when in fact I did. I don't care how much is applied to sales tax. I saved $73 dollars, period.

Ahh, good to know. I was responding to your claims intelligently and with common sense, and you resort to an immature post like this.

Coming from someone who turns everything into something personal about themselves. God forbid anyone can talk generally.

Please stop arguing. Saving money is always good but of course putting in a lot of extra time to save a few dollars may or may not be worth it depending on how much free time you have.

Thank you, you seem to get it. People turn these conversations into all about themselves and their own situations. Based on the thread topic, you know that initial question that is the topic, there is no "cheapest" price for every situation. Period.

Time is money for some people. Some need to pinch every penny to justify buying it. Some will save more than others based on their state tax percentages, or no money at all versus ordering out of state if the discount is less than their state tax percentage. Just the nature of it.

And some feel foolish for spending more than others for the exact same thing. Especially when they clearly have enough time on their hands.

Eta, nice edit. I enjoyed your more passive aggressive first attempt. ;)

I just like a better deal. And the purpose of this thread is: "Anyone manage to find the Pro 9.7 at a cheaper price than Apple is selling it for? Post details below - i'm looking right now!"

Sorry if I make my posts too "all about me", or my buying experiences, or personal experiences with iPads, iPhones, MacBooks, etc. I really don't think it's too different from most others around here, but whatever.

To be fair, if one is splurging on a $600-1,000 device, a toy for most here, and $20-75 (whatever it is in that person's specific case) is THAT important in the equation, then they probably shouldn't be buying it to begin with. They were already planning to buy it a week or 2 ago at Apple's announced price.

Paying "retail" isn't a sucker/foolish by any means if you need the device for some reason; not jsut an elaborate toy.

Having time has nothing to do with it as there are only so many stores selling it and deals to be had. Some stores with"deals" simply dont have stock, period. If one is using it for work purposes, to make more money, then $50 is a drop in the bucket to have it 2 weeks earlier.

Generalizations are like buttholes, everyone has one.

I don't think anyone has said it was make or break for the purchase, it's just nice to save a few bucks when easy and possible. Feel free to send me $20-$75 if it makes that little of a difference to you. I'd love a free case!

Its sure a LOT of whining over $20-75 then!! Even though they fully planned to spend the $599, $749 whatever their model retailed for 2 weeks ago when announced.

Its Macumors; no win arguments with some people who will see their way and only their way no matter what logic anyone sets forth and that it doesnt in fact apply to all situations.

Of course a "free" case is nice, but would I rather choose a $25 case or getting the device 2-4 weeks earlier paying retail? The latter of course with the device in hand as it's a business tool in my specific case.

But again, this isn't about me or my specific case. I outlined what stores are better than others depending on sales tax etc. nd some EXAMPLES.

I dunno why some people are getting so damn butthurt with general facts and general examples other than needing to be center of attention.
