I cannot get a usable image. With my Mac Pro 2013 (aka Trash Can) I´m able to have the resolution of 3840x216 on this monitor and picture is usable. I just do not understand why I cannot get a good image with the Mac Book Pro 14.

I have tried switchresx as you have mentioned but it does not look better. It always feels like a glowing fuzzy effect and my eyes start to hurt after a few seconds. I´m wondering why there not more reports about this issue. Would be great if there is a solution to use the Macbook Pro 14 with my monitor.

Can you install SwitchResX on there and double-click on the selected mode on the “Available Resolutions” tab so we can compare this to the mode used on the MBP?

Sure, here we go.
So you're saying that 7680x3200 scaled down to 3840x1600 (HiDPI) looks better on the Mac Pro 2013 than it does on the MacBook Pro 14?
Did you try the exact same timing on the MacBook Pro 14: 497 MHz pixel clock 75Hz refresh?

The LG 38WN95C-W is not a HiDPI display.
Basically, it's just a wider Apple 30" Cinema Display (from 2005) which I'm using now with my Mac Pro 2008.
Just use the non-HiDPI mode 3840x1600.

Hi,

I think my problem might be something else. I would say in terms of clarity it's almost the same. But when MBP 14 is connected to my Monitor, my eyes hurt after a few seconds and it feels like glowing. I was googling a lot yesterday because I did not know how else to describe it. I found this:

and I think this describes what I might have as an issue. Can I somehow confirm or test this? How can I read or find the number? Is this really possible if connected to external Monitor?

I used the MacBook 14 without Monitor it the same issue. Eyes hurt.

Then I do not now what the issues is. When the Mac Book Pro 14 is connected after a few seconds my eyes hurting. It also feels like everything is glowing and bright. I have the same settings, even loaded the same color profile I use with my Mac Pro 2013. Still glowing/bright.

@KakuM1: Exact same version of macOS as well?
Yes

Really weird. If I do not find a solution I have to return the MacBook and wait for the Mac Mini. I'm sure it has something to do with the screen or the GPU is handling a single. It feels like flickering.

Hi all. Has anyone figured out the best option for the XDR connected to MBP 16” M1Max? I have both SwitchResX and BetterDummy but I’m not sure the resolution to choose to get the best image quality… thanks in advance! :)

Don't think so, u will not be able to see a difference to 3840x2160 in HiDPI because the physically Pixels are to tiny

Ok so better use the default 3008×1692 HiDPI option that Apple has under screen settings?

Some users said the best option is to use 3840 x 2160 HiDPI in SwitchResX… will that resolution look better than 3008 x 1692 HiDPI?

Plz read the complete Thread all your questions are answered there !
I read all the thread already but I still don’t see a common opinion, some say looks better some say it doesn’t… And I am confused about BetterDummy and SwitxhResX differences. Thanks

There are no looks better, u have to check what are ure distance between u and the Display. For me its about 60-80cm so 4k HiDPI its nice for me. If u are 1m + u have to go with less resolution ...

If you want the best image quality. All the other (lower-resolution) HiDPI modes Apple offers scale a framebuffer that is smaller than the physical display resolution to the physical resolution before outputting to the monitor, which causes a slight blurriness. The question is whether you can see this blurriness and if so, whether it bothers you. Eventually, it's a matter of personal preference.

I have a 27" 5K monitor with 218 ppi, i.e. the pixels are as tiny as on the XDR (216 ppi). I can see a difference between the pixel-perfect (2560×1440) HiDPI mode and any scaled mode. The slight blurriness is there. It doesn't bother me too much though.

There are no looks better,
The pixel-perfect mode will always look better than any scaled mode. :)

On Apple 6k XDR Panel on 32" with Human Eyes u can not see a difference in 6k or 4k. Never ever. But u are right, pixel-perfect is always better BUT 6k on a 32" XDR is not workable, so all another resolution downscale are the same "Quality" he ask for, for Human Eyes.

Another Displays - another Panel and Chipsets, don't know how they work or are physically build. So i can only say my opinion with the 32" XDR

No I think it used to just top out at 3008. This is how the interface used to be…even lower than the 5K LG Ultra Fine.

Hmm then maybe my custom entires into SwitchResX are triggering the More Space option to appear? Here are my entries:
