If I would be able to find one dirt cheap, then yes. I don’t need one, but have my eye on it. Probably until I see one secondhand for a good price. 3000 EUR is the cheapest I saw, and that’s still a lot of money if you don’t really * NEED * one.

So what do we think the rumors of a WWDC Mac Pro / New XDR announcement are? Im thinking of picking up a Pro Display XDR at the local store since I have a 14 day return window, seeing as WWDC is a cool 13 days away :)

I would wait. A new monitor should make the older display cheaper, but no matter what is announced or not, nothing will change the fact that the Pro Xdr is a monitor of the highest class that will still be supurb for years to come. And especially compared with competition who uses just barely enough plastic in the stand to keep it from falling face down onto your keyboard. (Not a joke - anyone want to buy a Samsung 4k with a cracked screen?)

I’ve been on the fence for around a year… really hope we get the Mac Pro/updated XDR at WWDC, but I think the chances are slim 🙁

I'm on the same boat but I'm waiting for a new version, expecting that cost less than the actual, or! wait for a new version of the studio display with mini led or something similar to the macbook pro 14/16 screen, I think the actual studio display or the xdr not worth that money, the studio display specs not worth the money and the xdr is already old for that kind of money.

So overall I prefer wait! for new version to act.

Agreed on price, I feel like the $6000 for what you get with the XDR is now overpriced compared to the value offered by the MBPs, with lower refresh rate, way less dimming zones, lower PPI. I’m hoping either for a high end Studio display with mini-LED (still 27 inch, 5K, 60hz) for around $2500-$3000, or a full blown update to the XDR, so 32 inch, 7K, 120hz, more dimming zones. I’d expect the XDR update to keep the $6000 tag if we get those updates. I think 120hz at 6K/7K requires the new displayport tech, so I wonder if apple are waiting for that to come online before they release it…

Yeah I generally agree re: new displays... TB5 / USB 4 2.0 will have to be available to drive a display like that... kinda wondered something similar as to whether that might be one piece the new Mac Pro needs that isn't ready yet. I'm sure many would argue otherwise, they could refresh that machine and release a new display sometime down the road.

I guess I don't have much confidence we'll see a Mac Pro at WWDC this year but I'd also not mind being wrong ;)

I personally would like to see the XDR version 2 go to something like 34"-36" with a 7K or 8K resolution (if TB4 can drive it; not even sure about that).

That would leave the 32" Dell 6K in the $2900-$3200 range and the XDR version 2 at 34+" for $5000-$6000. It would add more value to the higher priced Apple display.

Not that I would be buying either of them any time soon....

I can only dream of an upcoming XDR 2.0 at WWDC, which could potentially lower the current XDR in price. I would snatch the current XDR (Nano/Stand) @#3.5k. and leave the new 2.0 version at the current prices. That seems like a fair trade-off but Apple is greedy. 😂

Anyone else getting their hopes up for a new XDR with the talk of a number of Macs being updated at WWDC? If we get a Mac Pro preview then I'd expect a preview of a matching new Pro Display (very similar to the 2019 keynote). We can dream :)

Yes, please! Fingers crossed for that rumoured 7K display, for me preferably without XDR, though, to keep the price down(ish). 🤞

haha I want the XDR for photo/video work! At least one of us (might) get what we want :D

Why not both versions?* Would be interesting what „XDR“ would cost extra.

I was close to getting the 6K a few times, but I just couldn‘t pull the trigger knowing I‘d pay a lot for the (impressive) tech I need least.

(*Yeah, I know, this display would be niche enough that Apple won‘t make two versions of it (beyond glossy/nano surfaces).)

Not getting my hopes up, and honestly would love it if they just lowered the price a tad or something even without releasing a new monitor.

I guess I figure we usually hear about new displays in some form or fashion from ol’ Ross Young and so I don’t really expect anything next week. (I also figure anything 7k or higher refresh might be waiting for corresponding Thunderbolt / USB 4 2.0 bandwidth increases.)

...I really love the size and resolution of this display, especially coming from a 2020 27-in Retina 5K iMac. I am not a colorist or high end video editor that requires color precision, only someone that wants a bigger retina display with more real estate (no, I am not willing to consider a bigger 4K display).

Thoughts?
I completely understand the desire to have a large retina display—4k displays at any size just don't measure up to full retina displays from Apple. But $6,000 for a display meant entirely for high-end color and video work when you don't do high-end color and video work just seems obscenely, over-the-top, bat-poo crazy.

Yeah really disappointing Mac updates today (other than maybe the price of the MBA!)

We keep waiting I guess...
I don't know but I feel they will hold the release of a new monitor for some years, so lame!

I need to move so I'll buy a damn LG/Dell for now.

I too was waiting on an updated display from Apple as I was ready to pull the trigger on the XDR. I have had the LG 5K Ultrafine for around 5 years now which has served me well but I need more real estate.I thought about getting a second Ultrafine 5K or a Studio Display but would like to have just one screen. The XDR is an expensive way to go but it is the only one available that best fit my needs.

I pulled the trigger last year, switched from UltraFine 5K to XDR. Actually there's no such a big difference in real estate - if you can manage it, 5K is enough. But if not (like me) - 6K won't be enough either 😁

I finally plucked up the courage this afternoon and gambled, managed to get £500 off at costco in the UK so just under £5000 with the standard screen and the pro stand. So so excited for them to release an updated XDR in like 4 months just after the return period runs out 😂

Dang, Costco sells the XDR in the UK huh? Only have the Studio Display in the states as far as I know. Or maybe it's just where I live?
