At last ....

The upgrade worked (only gone to 7.4 so far ... it says I should upgrade again (I think) to prevent "noise" on analogue inputs 4-8 ... but I haven't been that brave yet)

I had to take Rewire out of the plug-ins as this was causing it not to start (an additional and different problem to not finding the hardware)... but now i don't have rewire - the system seems to work fine. (ish)

I occasionally get an error while recording "the system wrote too many interupts ..." and it stops recording. I haven't managed to fix this yet, - and obviously when I do a proper recording session this will be a major problem if I haven't managed to find a solution.

So far though, - we are moving in the right direction, at least I can use the desk now!

I may be wrong about the interupt errors but I have a feeling that is a scratch disc/playback error....maybe mess around with the hardware buffer sizes.

Im glad its working for you though.
I would suggest completing the upgrades to the lastest release.
I imagine it will work just fine

I'm having a strange issue after upgrading to 10.5. I'm running an MBox2 Pro Factory on a Macbook Pro, 2gb ram, and the latest update of Pro Tools LE 7.3 (can't remember the point release right now at work). Everything loads fine (removed rewire) and I can open old projects without issue. I haven't done much, but it seems as though I can record new tracks without issue as well. The problem occurs when I try and import audio to a track. I select the audio file and while I can play/preview it it refuses to import. Then after the import window is open for about 10 seconds the whole screen blacks over and crashes.

Any ideas? If I can't import I'm dead in the water for recording.

I have ProTools M-powered 7.3 running on Leopard with the same issue. ProTools works great for everything - except importing files. The import dialouge shows up, Just nothing happens when I click to finally import.

One work around - for some files, I can drag them from Finder to the ProTools icon on the dock, and that automatically imports them correctly.

I guess the only solution to ProTools on Leopard working normally (and supported) is upgrading to 7.4?

7.4 was the fix for me. I don't know enough about the issue to tell you to go drop the cash, but I bought the 7.4 upgrade and have been golden ever since. I'm still running 10.5.1 and am scared to go to 10.5.2, but it's a small price to pay.

Wrote too many interupts

The system is mostly fine, last night I recorded 10 tracks simultaneously without a problem, admitedly later fried the cpu a bit with too many inserts - but that's par for the course ... but when playing back I still get the error regarding too many interupts and the system stops playing and (recording if overdubbing at the time ... which is a major problem).

I'm using a separate Audio drive so I don't think that should be the problem.

I actually got the error even when playing back just one track which doesn't sound like the system is being overworked

I seem to remember a post here somewhere along the lines that it is when the CPU isn't working hard enough that you get the interupt errors?

I've done as the error message suggests and increased the H / W buffer size (what is that by the way??!!) to the maximum it will let me but it doesn't make any difference.

Can anyone help??

Yes, I was in your position a month ago (see my previous post), in other words, twiddling my thumbs and wondering what to do. It was obvious Digidesign wasn't doing much. I ended up dumping Pro Tools and my MBox and switched to a firewire audio interface (Saffire LE) and Logic Express. I think if I had more expensive Digidesign hardware I wouldn't have been so quick to jump ship but I am extremely happy with Logic Express 8 (the workflow seems fine to me although I don't run a pro studio). Apple has finally gotten serious about audio.

Protools 7.3 to Leopard

:D
I'm up and running finally, but here's what I did:

I'm running ProTools 7.3 on an IMAC using Tiger. Leopard had just been released when I bought my Imac so the Apple store included Leopard in my box.

1. Back up your entire machine on an external drive. Do not uninstall Protools or try to launch it between all of the upgrading.
2. Install Leopard 10.5
3. Go to System Preferences and put Time Machine in the OFF position
4. Go to the MAC site and get the 10.5.3 Combo Update
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1053comboupdate.html
5. Go to Digidesign and upgrade your Protools to 7.4. If you purchased and registered your ProTools after October 2007, it may be free or 49.00 for you. If not, it will be 75.00. http://store.digidesign.com/us/index.cfm?page=templates/product_detail&PartNumber=pt7.4LE
You will receive in auth code at this point so write it down
6. Then go back and download the ProTools 7.4.2
http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?langid=100&navid=48&itemid=32890&action=news_details
6. Before launching Protools for the first time - Go to System Preferences-Keyboard Mouse-Keyboard shortcuts and under Spotlight - uncheck show spotlight search and show spotlight window
Go to Dock Expose and uncheck everything except auto hide and show dock
Go to Look up Dictionary and disable show help menu
When trying to launch Protools for the first time - it wouldnt open and would hang at different points. I would have to stop and look each one up at each point.
7. Launch ProTools. It may become unresponsive on "digiRewire" or a few others. These are the plug-ins that are not yet compatible in Leopard. If it hangs on "DigiRewire" this is its incompatibility with Melodyne. You will have to go to your Library - Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/Rewire and delete the two Melodyne files. (you'll have to look the two file names up on the digi site as I cant go straight to them at this moment ;))
8. Finally, be sure to go to the Digi site and upgrade all of the available plug ins from the Ignition Pack that you can.

I am not a techie or protools wiz. I am songwriter desperate to continue writing! Now it took me all day to get up and running, but hopefully some of my tips will save you some drama.

Smootches.

to chime in again on this thread im happy pro tools 7.4.2 is finally out and working(kind of). better digi 003 and mbox 2 support would be great though, im sick of kernal panics and error -6501, rev.e macbook pro's shouldnt have audio drop outs!

I'm a running ProTools LE 7.4.2 on a MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz with 2GB of RAM on Leopard.

Generally I seem to be fine BUT when I try and use certain PlugIns I find that either the audio will stop (meaning I have to restart PT) or the computer will freeze up sporadically for a few seconds.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Having just bought the new computer and PT I was hoping for a very stable and workable system and this is far from it.

It may be that the Plug Ins are still not fully compatible with Leopard?

The major plugs in question are BFD Lite, Analog Facotry and any that are running through the VST to RTAS adapter.

It's the plug ins - they also need upgrading for full Leopard compatibility - you can download all the latest updates (guess what ... you have to do most of them individually.............) from didgidesign. They also have a table of which plugins require upgrading.

I had problems - admitedly with an older MacBook pro - with h/w buffer size errors, and "held off interupts for too long errors" .... I was pushing the system too hard, so I ended up upgrading my hardware to a MacPro and it now runs like a dream (and amazingly fast). An expensive route to solve the problems - but it worked.

My PT 7.3 has issues with leopard OS 10.5.4 help! :]

Im running a new IMAC with OS 10.5.4

When PT's opens up, I open a mono audio track.. i/o's all set up correctly, yet when I push record enable, pink noise fills the meter through the roof clipping like a mad man, and wont stop until I undo record. . anyone experiencing this issue?

thanks

Help!!!!!!!!!

First of all i'm not from U.S, so I'm sorry for my horrible english.

I've been working on my uncle's home studio for a couple of days, and i decided to install as a gift, some plug-ins from the pro tools ignition pack 2.
When I was up to use Protools it simply didn't open. It loads the start screen, when it charges plug-ins and all that stuff, and then appears a message saying that the application closed unexpectedly.
Later I discovered that garageband had the same problem.
I have done a clean uninstall of protools, and sadly erased the plug-ins i'd installed for my uncle.
I believe I've done anything I know (tried to update OSX too), but this simply won't work... and my uncle arrives today, I don't know what am I going to do.
Please if someone knows something usefull, please please help me!
Thanks a lot.

By the way, these are the equipments that he use on his studio:

Mac OSX 10.5
ProTools 7.3.1
Mbox 1

Try taking Rewire out of the Pro Tools folder - it seems to cause the system not to start with the above configuration

Pro tools LE 7.3 OS 10.4.11 Upgrade to Leopard

Hey ya'll. I know this original post dates from almost 4 years ago but I'm now considering moving up as we're at Pro tools 10.

I run a PT LE 7.3 on a Mac Mini Core Duo 1.83ghz with OS 10.4.11
Digi Rack 002

Will my Pro tools run if I upgrade to 10.5 Tiger with MAc Box Set?
Will I need to upgrade Plug ins?

As some of you experienced problems with iTunes not upgrading, etc.. I'm facing the same issue as I want to purchase the MASCHINE or MPC Studio which require OS 10.5 to work.
Thanks for the responses.
