The dramatic problems have smoothed out with my 32gb 2g Touch. What I'm really perplexed by, though, is why I keep getting "No photos were transferred to your iPod because there isn't enough space." Thing is, I have 320mb free and only 29mb of photos. Anyone else having this issue? That, the lack of play/pause/skip/volume pop-up and the incredibly laggy podcast scrolling are particularly bothersome.

Re-syncing issue

IronWaffle,

I've had that exact same issue with a Touch running 2.1.1 and iTunes 8.2. I guess that occasionally it just wipes and resyncs all the information on the iPod. I didn't know why (and it was annoying, I was trying to add music before running out the door to school). I let it finish the wipe/sync, and everything was just fine.

*shrug* I don't know if that'll help, but I thought I'd mention it.

Thanks liammikiir,

Always cold comfort knowing you're not alone:p

What was strange is that it had already done some syncing without much problem. Anyhoo, that's done. Podcast listening is sure going to be a pain now.

Another curious thing: I use both the Artist and Album Artist fields and I think they've redone it a bit. Where it gets complicated is with albums that have guest artists on select tracks. For example, I used to do it like this:

Artist: Bob Dylan
Album Artist: Bob Dylan & The Band

This would mean the album showed up under Bob Dylan while scrolling through artists, but that both would appear under the same album when scrolling through albums. Now, the artist scrolling stays the same, but under album, each "Album Artist" is listed as a separate album.

So I tried this:
Artist: Bob Dylan & The Band
Album Artist: Bob Dylan

Now I end up with everything under one album, but a gazillion artists!

My solution will, I suppose, be to revert to my old way and convert the albums into "compilations", but it seems silly.

Actually, when I updated my 1st gen Touch to 3.1.1 (from 1.x) all of the albums that were mismarked as 'compilations' even though the songs were by a single artist showed up under 'various artists' on the Touch when viewed in cover flow mode. That was kind of annoying.

Personally, I think I'd just list the artist for Planet Waves and The Basement Tapes as 'Bob Dylan' and avoid having to deal with Apple's weird way of cataloging things altogether.

Hi everyone! (my first post here :))

I (unfortunatly) seem to have all of the problems you lot have stated here but then I have one major one. My music player won't work! When I play some music it plays the first track fine but then when it starts the second, the music player crashes.

Anyone having problems like this? Or know what the hell I can do?

cannot update to 3.1.1 from 3.0

I downloaded 3.0 free from online internet site (iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw, not from bittorrent), and now I cannot update to the new 3.1.1 firmware.

Got the following error
next post.

I didn't disconnect and I've already updated the WinXP SP3 machine to iTunes 9 just 2 days ago and the PC was already rebooted twice or more and working to playback music via iTunes just fine before update attempt just moments ago.

Any ideas other than checking Apple's suggestions?

My iPod Touch G2 Error P1

Attached

update: I'll retry after reboot. I did a Windows user quick switch to my own profile from my wife's logon (windows) and back again during the firmware update. Although I don't have an ipod/iphone associated with my iTunes profile nor had it running I DID noticed that during the reboot windows detected new hardware on my logon; this may be the culprit.

So I'll retry within 15mins when uploading of apps install from the restore.

I have the duplicate albums thing happen too. Checked the ipod out in iTunes and it's fine but when you look it up on the ipod, there's duplicated albums.

my issue was fixed.

Only after the iPod Touch 2G lost power during the update and would NOT power on after 10mins of presumed charging. Windows would not recognize the USB connection & thus iTunes would not discover it. All Apple related Processes where running.

But Its working and apps running flawlessly. I forgot to post some few hours ago.

Hi ppl.sorry any mistake :iPod+foreign language = caos.
The first issue i've resolved setting the album artist field with the same name
so, itunes9 arranged all loose albuns and cd covers into one album.
But my problem is anothe and a bit weird. I did the update to 3.1.1 this morning and after that, when i choose the view mode of musics
to album view and play a music, when double-tapped on cd cover the iPod flips to a list.the issue is:when i click in any music of the list, the music grid seems unformatted. The lines of the grid disappears. And the worst: when i click to return to album view, only one music is listed. Fuuuuuu
As i said before, sorry any mistake. First time writing in iPod.

"Interesting" New Bug...

I've just started playing with Genius playlists and it's faster than it was under 3.0 in getting the list together, but then it replays the initial song again. Weirder still:

If I hit track 3, track 3 shows up for a split second but there's no sound. Then the artwork changes to track 2 and track 2 begins to play. This is consistent no matter which song I select from the list of 25 on the Genius playlist.

Anyone got this fixed yet ? I really just want the way it was before I got this stupid update !

I will email/call Apple regarding this issue. In no way has this hindered performance in listening to music, I just find it really irritating how there are duplicate album art for the same artist when I view it on my ipod touch. It doesn't happen to all my albums, just some are affected. Still, I am puzzled as to what I have to do.

3.1.1 also breaks Smart Playlists, specifically Recently Added and Top 25 Most Played (or others that rely on usage statistics). very frustrating. check for yourself. :(

IPod Touch album display sorting issue solution!

Hi guys,

Like you, I was frustrated with this problem after I updated to 3.1.1. But after much diggin around I found a solution that seems to work.

In ITunes, right click the field that displays the name, album name, and artist etc, and then select album artist.

Carefully look at those albums that are displaying mulitple images and you should see that in the album artist field, something will probably be displayed in one of those tracks that is not displayed in other tracks,

The Solution is to make sure that whatever is in the album artist field for one track is the same for ALL tracks for that album, syncronise the Ipod device, and you should find that that particular album, now appears as one image when you search your albums

Let know how you get on!

Peace out-

Podcasts gone missing

Since downloading 3.1.1, my new podcasts don't appear to transfer when the device is synced. In fact, they DO transfer -- I can find them if I do a search and type in the name -- but they refuse to appear anywhere that I can navigate to. My podcast menu seems frozen to a pre-3.1.1 state. I tried blowing away all podcasts -- which worked -- and then re-syncing, but again the full sync produced only the pre-3.1.1 situation in the navigation area.

I have the duplicate albums thing happen too. Checked the ipod out in iTunes and it's fine but when you look it up on the ipod, there's duplicated albums.
I've got the same problem on my iPhone.

Yesterday, I renamed two of my artists in iTunes ("Touch And Go" is now "Touch and Go" and "Ali Dee And The Deekompressors" is now "Ali Dee and the Deekompressors"), and now my iPhone lists the albums for those artists TWICE. I've tried restoring the iPhone, tried deleting and reripping the songs from scratch, basically everything short of zapping the phone back to factory spec (I don't want to lose my SMS messages and Camera Roll, and there is no option to restore JUST those items).

My theory is that the database within the iPhone has become borked somehow -- my iPod Touch is not showing the same problem, nor is my Apple TV. If the database is messed up, removing and resyncing music isn't going to fix the problem because the database doesn't actually go away at any point.

Apple needs to stop treating us like children and give those of us who want it more control over managing all of the internal crap on our devices. If I could just delete the music database within the iPhone, I could try resyncing my music back over and see if that solves the problem.

hey guess what, THAT WORKS!

I am in the process of checking which albums are duplicated and checking the album artist to see what the problem is. Good looking out!
