i'm 50/50 with 3.1.1

pros:
it fixed alot of performance issues that was in 3.0 (huge)
my iHome iP9 playlist alarm works occassionally now, instead of never (2.1.1 worked all the time)

cons:
battery life drains a bit faster than i remember
when playing an album, it starts playing in "shuffle" mode rather than in sequential order
duplicate albums under artists

for those complaining about songs showing up separately even though they are from the same album, it could be the song info, from illegally downloaded music. ;)

Mine are ripped from CDs that I own. And I even re-ripped them from scratch, making sure that all information was perfect. The iPhone is still showing multiple albums, each with ALL of the songs on the album.

My scrolling of the podcast page on iPod is now laggy, most prob because of the small album art icons.

Anyone with same problem?

Firmware 3.1.1
iTunes 9

Yes - I though it was because I had too much stuff on my pod but I have nearly 2 GB free. Its become laggy ever since I upgraded to 3.1.1. Well doen Apple! Hopefully they'll resolve this in the next patch as its not acceptable.

Since downloading 3.1.1, my new podcasts don't appear to transfer when the device is synced. In fact, they DO transfer -- I can find them if I do a search and type in the name -- but they refuse to appear anywhere that I can navigate to. My podcast menu seems frozen to a pre-3.1.1 state. I tried blowing away all podcasts -- which worked -- and then re-syncing, but again the full sync produced only the pre-3.1.1 situation in the navigation area.

I have that exact same problem too with my 1st gen iPod Touch after updating to 3.1.1 and iTunes 9. There are other threads here stating the same thing about the Touch and iPhone. It appears after doing some searching on Google this is a WIDE spread issue and there won't be a solution until Apple comes out with a fix for the firmware and an update to iTunes 9 as well.

You should call Apple like most people are so they get more calls complaining about the issues of this firmware. Here's hoping for an update fairly soon to fix all this.

with the duplicate albums ordeal, there are also album art that I know I had already on my ipod and now it just appears to be a white box.. it happens on random albums too

 I Am having the same exact problem as dynamo22!! This sucks!! I only have 30 albums in my itunes but its shows on the pod that I have 565 albums. 3.1.1 update is not right. please can someone help!!!

I am having this same problem , but this is the messed up thing, 2.2.1 worked great! so it is this update making all the problems!!

Just adding my two cents that all this is happening on my 32GB 2G touch as well.

The craziest thing is when it randomly replaces artwork on the iPod only. For instance, Kings of Leon now features the album artwork from a Sesame Street podcast.

Solution!!

I had this problem too..

Unfortunately, the solution is quite labourious.. with each of the albums that seem multiplied, you have to ensure the "album artist" section is complete.

So for example, an album with multiple artists, the "album artist" can be "Various Artists" (this is what i put). It doesn't change the artist name.. or if an album doesn't have mutiple artists but still displays duplicate album covers, make sure the "album artist" is consistent..

This worked for me... but like i said, it takes a heck of a long time to go through each one... employ a younger sibling to do it (that's what i did :) )

edit: also, yes this problem definitely occured after the 3.1.1 update

Sorting

So I just updated my ipod touch with the new firmware alongside itunes 9, and on my ipod touch I go to my music and click the 'albums' tab and I see multiple album covers and some missing album art. I know that prior to this day, I have not seen this before. Each album is spelled correctly with the same art. It somehow made duplicates and I have no idea what I did to enable this feature, if this is a feature. Say for example I have an album that has 4 songs in it, but now I see 4 of the same album covers in a row, and under each of the same album covers it lists the artist. But when I tap on the cover to see it, they contain all 4 songs. In landscape view I do not encounter this problem.

Any one have ideas on how to fix this? I manually manage my music so I know if I spelled an album title wrong or anything like that. I found it pretty annoying :(

I also manually manage my music.. You have to make sure that each field in the info tab matches--even the album artist field. Whatever you put in the "album artist" field is what will show under the album, as the artist, using the profile view.. I use the "sorting" tab, and made the "sort album artists" field "various artist". Doing this eliminated the multiple cover issue, and makes the artist on the first track appear as the artist in profile (however, in landscape it appears as "various artist").

I haven't tried it yet, but theoretically you can utilize the other sorting field to break it down more

Don't know if that helped, but I hope it did ;)
