You have some rose tinted googles on for the halcyon days of Steves return. It wasn't as good as you remember.
I mean of course memories are faulty over time.

But . . . I had the Public Beta of Mac OS X, the one you actually had to pay $29.95 for. I was running on it an iBook G3 my freshman year at college, running Microsoft Office through the emulation mode on it, and it was slow as a bear.

However, I recall everything *working* much better over OS 9 (and 8 and before). System 7, OS 8, and System 9 were prone to just completely crashing out of the blue. I liked those operating systems, but you could just have a "bomb" appear out of nowhere and crash the system.

OS X changed that. Yes, it was extraordinarily slow and not feature complete for the first few versions, but I recall it also being extremely stable.

By the time you got to Tiger, which had Spotlight, there really was nothing missing that I would long for today.

There are so many basic functions that just don't work for me today.

As I mentioned at the moment, I am having an impossible time backing up and/or importing photos/videos from my iPhone. I've noticed Apple has fewer error messages. There are things that just don't work without explanation. I'm someone who relied on iPhoto very heavily, and I can't get Image Capture/Photos/Preview to work now (if you Google iPhone doesn't show up in Image Capture) this has been a widespread problem for years across many operating system versions. And they can get away with it by people just saying, "Just use iCloud."

There was a "Get a Mac" ad that featured a woman who "saved Christmas" by being able to import the family photos from their camera on a Mac when they couldn't on a PC. I'm at literally the opposite point now. I have been able to get the iPhone videos/photos to show up on a relative's PC, but I am hellbent on figuring out why I can't get them to show up on three different Macs across three operating systems. I want it to work. And a lot of things just don't work.

I'm not saying my memory is perfect. But I think I would remember showstopping problems like this.

Just made a purchase about an hour ago and it still isn’t showing up in the wallet and never got a notification. As of 3 hours ago charges were still showing up on time in the wallet app and notifications.

Same issue happened earlier this year. I don’t see it called out on Apple’s system status page.

Apple Card seems to be way more hassle than “traditional” Visa Mastercard etc.

Glad I didn’t bother. Maybe a few more years it would be more stable to use.

I haven't had any issues using the card but notifications and posting of activity is really slow. Had one bug refund and one big charge yesterday but still haven't shown up in the reports.

hm... just noticed my card balance isnt correct.

It's missing my 12 Pro Max and Mac Mini installment plans.

Also says that no balance is currently due. I can wait a few days for any issues to resolve since I pay off my balance as soon as the statement period closes.

edit: as i was typing this everything updated. LOL.

Apple Card is managed by Goldman Sachs. They have the responsibility of managing all the transactions so I imagine they are the only ones responsible for all the issue/mess.

Thankfully I was able to pay off my card today using my iPhone 13 pro running iOS 15. I had not installed 15.01 yet. I had no issues at all with the card for which I am thankful. I sympathize with those who did - it sucks.

Been trouble free for me as of today. payments and purchases come thru immediately. I guess I'm one of the many that wasn't affected. I agree with many of you - this Goldman Sachs online support is outsourced because I've encountered many Indian support people and one of them in particular was straight up rude and condescending.

After 2 hours the latest charge came through. They are definitely backed up.

I see Apple has marked the issue resolved around 9:09 PM. That would be right around when this charge showed up.

I just paid off my card and it went through immediately with a notification and showing up in the wallet.

WTF is happening to Apple? They are fast becoming no different than the other tech companies. If they start going down hill in the build quality and reliability of their products there will be no justification for their high price premium.
But but but the silicon is so amazing!

Doesn’t mean Jack if the OS’s are buggy, unstable and services don’t work properly.

Don't worry, folks, Tim Cook is happy to announce that there are some great things for Apple Card in the pipeline. Although Apple doesn't discuss future products, he's never been more excited about what is to come. Everything Apple does is to delight its customers and he can't wait to see what you do with Apple Card. This is the best Apple Card has ever been!

Apple is equally responsible as they chose a company like GS to be their partner. It was well known that GS had no experience in this business and their disgusting actions in the 2008 crisis was very well known. Yet Cook, the one who wants to improve the life of individuals and the world itself, happily went into the card business with GS. That speaks volumes about Cook's judgement and values.

I've had some great fun with my Apple Card today being used fraudulently for online Chipotle orders. Maybe this is why their fraud systems didn't auto detect this and stop it after the 7th!!!! charge? Fortunately, I was able to change my number in the app and then it stopped but card support is unable to do anything about the charges because of the outage.

I sure hope the next charge was for toilet paper?

The software has been rubbish for the last 10 years… the only thing that sets them apart is hardware. Agree.

Relax peeps. I remember when I bought my Power Mac 7100/80av in 1994, it was DOA and I had to get a replacement. Apple hasn't changed, the expectations have.
And 3 year later Apple needed to be saved from bankruptcy by Microsoft. I hoped, they would have learned something from that experience.

Apple’s credit card means dealing with a “for profit” bank, which I try to avoid if I possibly can.

I do all my banking with a credit union I’ve been a member of since the early 90’s. I’ve never been disappointed with the service offered there.

So while I qualify for an Apple credit card, in the end I decided to take a pass. I have a platinum MC with my CU with no annual fee and it earns rewards in the same program as my debit card, so either way I do well with it.

My only direct personal dealings with a large bank is Amex. Which I keep for emergencies and the extended warranty on certain purchases. I also use it as a buffer between my CU accounts when I’m traveling.

You might have learned something reading (and hopefully absorbing) Apple's sales and financials over the years Tim Cook has been CEO.

Not just yesterday.

Apple should acknowledge there's been a problem with the Apple Card since day 1 : it's not available in Canada 😬
