Apple is equally responsible as they chose a company like GS to be their partner. It was well known that GS had no experience in this business and their disgusting actions in the 2008 crisis was very well known. Yet Cook, the one who wants to improve the life of individuals and the world itself, happily went into the card business with GS. That speaks volumes about Cook's judgement and values.
I agree Apple should be responsible but the mechanics of the service is the responsibility of Goldman Sachs. I too was surprised when Tim Cook went with them. It is well known Goldman Sachs have not been the pillar of responsible financial practices. But I imagine Goldman Sachs offered Tim the best deal. Ever wonder how much Apple makes off the cards?

I was very hesitant to go with an Apple Card. I finally decided to try it. Since getting the card I have had one issue with charges showing up on my card that I had not made. I called Apple and they directed me to used the text messaging service through the app. I assume I was messaging a Goldman Sachs employee but either way they took care of the problem. They issued a new card number which showed up immediately in my app. They marked the transactions as suspicious and in about two weeks they had reviewed the charges and refunded my card. With any other credit card I would have been without my card until they mailed me a new one in a week or so. Since the physical Apple Card has no number on it there was no need to send me a new one - although I have never used the physical card.

But after seeing all the issues this year with people not able to order on launch day and use their Apple Card, I can agree Goldman Sachs dropped the ball. What happened was unacceptable. I was glad I had no issues using my card on launch day but would have been very unhappy (pissed!) if it had not worked.

Believe it or not, not every other potential partner would even be willing to allow the card to work the way it does. I strongly suspect the reason they chose GS wasn’t the financial terms, but their willingness to do the instant cash back, to allow apple to control the customer relationship, etc.

Well, it seems that for folks experiencing problems with the card, Apple has lost control and seems to have little interest in regaining it.

And 3 year later Apple needed to be saved from bankruptcy by Microsoft. I hoped, they would have learned something from that experience.

That's a complete fabrication.

The MicroSloth money was a payment so that Apple would drop the suit against them because they copied QuickTime code in Video for Windows, among other things. Apple had $1.2 billion in cash when all of that went down, they weren't anywhere close to bankruptcy.

WTF is happening to Apple? They are fast becoming no different than the other tech companies. If they start going down hill in the build quality and reliability of their products there will be no justification for their high price premium.

Do you actually think Apple runs the credit-card system itself?

Just use VISA, MasterCard or your DebitCard directly. They just works! 🤣

A single point of failure like Apple, sucks!

Only problem I’m having with the Apple Card:

“WHY IS IT STILL ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE US of A 🇺🇸 ?”

It's only available in the USA because Apple is not a bank. The card issuer, Goldman Sachs, is only licensed to issue credit cards in the USA.

But that's the tip of the iceberg. There are countless agreements that have to be made in a given country to allow an Apple Card to be used.

Apple emailed me stating I don’t have a valid payment method for my iCloud data subscription. Guess what it’s your $hitty Apple Card as default. I had to remove the card and re add it to work. I’m over this incompetence at its best.

The regulated interchange fees don't make it worth it in other countries anyways. MasterCard and GS earning 0.005% of the purchase amount doesn't seem profitable to offer the exact same card in the EU. You can thank the politicians for that.

If you have been experiencing issues with paying off or managing your Apple Card today, you are not alone, as Apple has confirmed ongoing issues.

"Some users may not be able to apply for Apple Card, pay their bill, lock/unlock their physical card, request a new or replacement physical card, or request a new card number," reads a notice posted on Apple's system status page.

The issues began within the past few hours and affect only some cardholders. We'll update this story when Apple indicates the issues have been resolved.

Update: The issues have been resolved, according to Apple's system status page.

I've had nothing but problems with Apple Card. TIP: DON'T EVER DO AN INSTALLMENT. REPEAT -- DON"T EVER DO AN INSTALLMENT. It's the biggest nightmare and Apple has essentially shifted the majority of operations to the INSANELY bad Goldman Sachs -- worst most incompetent bank I've ever used and I'm 51.

I have a feeling that Apple just doesn't care about the Apple Card much anymore. I mean all the graphics still show an iPhone X/11 series device.
