Am I the only one that thinks the red phone is ugly and particularly juvenile with a black front? I feel like if you asked a 5 year old what they wanted their phone to look like they would say red and black.

Not that the red/white candy cane was much better, but it didn't seem as juvenile as this imo.

Why is Apple now so afraid of color?

If this year's iPhone is not enticing to me, the red 8 Plus will be my next (after the price cut) :)

Haha, yeah.
Remember the white iPhone 4? :D

I don't think this will be around long enough for a price cut. I may be mistaken, but I think that the Produce(red) iPhone 7 was gone months before the introduction of the iPhone 8.

Because there is no definitive answer from ophthalmologists on whether the Face ID projector tech is safe for the eyes of my kids. Or us adults for that matter. Insufficient data.

So not every single person who likes iPhones is sold on this roadmap for the iPhone’s future, especially if they’re looking for a phone for their teenagers or even younger kids. I’m hoping by the time our 8’s need to be replaced some studies will have been done on this specific application of this specific light emitter and we will know more. Or Apple will come to their senses and include Touch ID back in.

Also some of us just like this series

Quoting because a "like" is not enough.

Like the phone, but not the folio.

Well, on the bright side, the folio is almost as expensive as the phone, just less breakable.

J/K.

I already have an 8 Plus in Silver that I am very happy with so I won't be buying but that Red looks super sleek. Personally I would have rather had the white bezel like they did last year. My last 3 phones had black fronts so I was looking for a change.

I don't get what the big deal is. Apart from the colour, what's the difference and who cares?

Did you miss the product announcement? The color is the difference, and a fair number of people care a lot.

Then there's the Bono-inspired donation for HIV causes, but I guess that didn't register, either?
[doublepost=1523371443][/doublepost]
Looks EXACTLY like the old one from the front. Meh

Especially if you put it in a case. :D

I might have upgraded my 6s had the red 8 been available at launch. Now it's too late in the release cycle to consider.

Why why why 4 months all new phones just wait the x and 8 are gonna be last gen soon

I like the fingerprint sensor too much to switch yet, I use it for everything, and too many complaints about face id not working with a lot of the apps yet for unlocking and authorization. I just ordered the red 8 plus, I'll keep this one for the two years, pay it off and pass it down to my daughter. By then everything will be face id and implemented across all the apps and platforms. I don't mind waiting for something to be perfected before getting it.

Maybe because this red iPhone will sell more than every mac mini model combined since its introduction? Just a thought.....haha

Beyond the humor, I wonder how many of the Product(red) iPhones sell each year, on average? Does Apple ever disclose their revenues from Product(red) items, or how much they're donating from sales of these things? Between the mid-cycle introduction dates and the color (which some people really love but others don't), I wouldn't think sales were all that high on these. I could certainly be wrong, though...

Well if I could see the links to the research they did that would be great. I have seen preliminary research indicating there can be eye damage from some exposure to IR beams, but they didn’t study effects of the kinds and strengths of the light in this particular application for biometric authentication in cell phones. Nor what happens over the course of frequent exposure.

My husband and I and a few other forum members have already experienced cumulative progressive severe eye pain from iris scanners in smart phones. I do think Apple has a smarter implementation than the iris scanner we used, but right now with no published data to consult, I don’t care to trust the gift of eyesight to this particular application of LED laser technology. My husband is fine with it, that’s his choice as an adult. The kids are a different matter.

Already, Apple’s particular presentation of OLED has landed some forum members in the ER or their doctor’s office with severe migraines, despite their never having experienced migraines. This type of OLED has been used before. Yet Apple didn’t seem to anticipate this effect on some of its customers.

So I don’t blindly trust any company, not even Apple, to look after my or my family’s health and safety. The CPSC site is filled with recalls due to reports of death and injury to customers from products that had been successfully marketed for years. Like the crib I used for my own baby.

Grumpy Mom, your concerns for your children are well placed. No one has the right to dismiss them without irrefutable scientific evidence to the contrary.

I like Apple's leather cases. I wish they would make a version that just has a small slot on the back for an ID and credit card. At this point all of my other cards are virtual, such as health insurance, car insurance, etc. And if Apple Pay would take off I could stop carrying a credit card. I know some third party cases make something like this. Maybe I should start looking into it.

"Otherwise, these iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus models are identical to those unveiled last September, with the new color likely introduced to boost sales."

They also have the glass back of the 8 line as opposed to the aluminum back of the 7 line.

Good response... and my eyes are already on the slippery slope from too much time looking at screens all throughout my day as it is. Don’t need one more thing helping me along, lol.

I’m really loving the red-black combo. Kind of regret getting a silver 8 Plus. The white front is okay, black was better. I’m going to wait to see it in person before deciding what to do. They will probably discontinue the Product RED version before the 2018 iPhone releases, otherwise I’d definitely wait until that time. Decisions. Decisions.

Well said. As somebody who is affected by PWM, I want to like the iPhone X, but it’s a pass from me. I never considered the potential effects of Face ID. But given my issues with PWM in their OLED display, I wouldn’t want to chance it at all. That said, depending on what Apple releases this fall I could see myself picking up a 8 or 8 plus if they move their line entirely over to the new design with Face ID. Excellent post though and thank you for taking the time.

I actually hated the white face on the red phones of past. I always wanted the black front. Looks gorgeous!

I think they are referring to the 8, not the 7.

why downgrade, its just a colour people acting like a colour makes everything diff lol

Personally, all the bells and whistles become “meh” after a while on all gadgets. The “beauty” of the device tends to be the only thing I still enjoy after a few months..

My old Nokia 8600 had about zero useful extras but years later I still love the look and feel of the thing.. Same goes for the Motorola Razr I had before it. If I could get a brand new iPhone 4s I would gladly carry that over an iPhone 6 any day.. :)

If it was available in the X model I buy it but the old style is sort of bummer going forward!
