Millions of people read just fine on the ipad 2 before the 3 came along

I have to state that neither I nor my wife see no difference between our iPad1 and iPad3 when looking at pictures or reading websites. Nothing except the icons on the home screen are a tad crisper. We put tons of 5MP and 14MP pix on both devices and saw no difference...zoomed in and out too. We asked a few family folk and they saw no difference.

Now, it could be that human's eyes, WHEN VIEWING A SCREEN, rarely notice a difference above 1024x768. I dunno. But nobody in our family wears glasses, we have great vision, and we can't tell the difference in regards to high quality photos. As for reading websites or email? We don't see a difference there either...but we're also not reading hours at a time...maybe 5 mins here, 10 mins there. It's welcome to have such a high resolution display...but really no need for people to run out and buy a 3 if they already own a 2 (for screen quality reasons).

There is a differance but it isnt worth the trade off in device weight, thickness, charging time etc. i would have rather just had a thinner, lighter, faster ipad 2

We took a Retina against a 2010 15" MBP and noticed the fall-off on the older model. The screen is crisp and yes the Retina kicks butt if you had it to professional graphics gear.
However, 15" isnt my thing :(

You really don't see the difference? I see it immediately when I pick it up. Maybe not in photos, but in text for sure. And I don't even have great eyesight, I'm fairly nearsighted and never wear my glasses (which is why I have my display fairly close, same with using the iPad).

However I am very critical when it comes to displays. For example one of my displays in work is slightly blurry, due to the poor VGA output on my work laptop (I have my other display on DVI). I always notice the slightly grey edge next to a white->black transition, such as black text on white, instantly. Especially because I have a perfect display right next to it but even if I hadn't I would notice it.

But when I pointed it out to a colleague he couldn't see it. Maybe it comes from staring at pixels in the work that I do (which involves a fair bit of web development) :)

I'd be so delighted with a 13" rMBP, because it'll be more affordable and more portable than the current 15" retina pro. 2000+ is just way above the amount I'll spend on something I'll carry everywhere.

I don't care for a retina iMac but I need a big display, so I've been waiting for the next generation iMac 27" for quite some time...

When I'm coding the larger the display, the better. It's really painful to try to work an iPad interface in Xcode on my MBPro 15", so I was really hoping to upgrade quickly, but waiting for at least Ivy Bridge is quite important seeing that a couple of technologies that will be very important in the future (OpenCL namely) weren't implemented correctly in Sandy Bridge CPUs (OpenCL code wouldn't run on the iGPU only the CPU or discreet GPU).

So here I am still hoping for a new iMac 27" soon.

I have the rMBP. I can't use non-Retina screens anymore. I look at my previous gen. MacBook Pro and it's brutal. Fuzzy screen.

Never going back. Apple just needs to throw Retina up on all of their portables, including the Air.

Well, my PPC G5 has finally died  so now I cannot work from home and it's getting busier and busier at work:(. I'm a graphic designer and my computer is essential to my work. What should I do, buy an imac now or wait until Apple pull their finger out their arses and release the well-overdue new imacs. Is there any kind of trade in guarantees if you buy a model and then they release a newer version?

I suppose I could buy a new imac now then sell it when the new ones are released, but no one in their right mind would buy a precursor model unless it's really cheap and I would loose so much money.

Oh what to do, what to do????:confused:

Buy now, seeing as your machine is dead. Or you could just wait and wait and wait and wait for an announcement, then wait and wait a bit more for the machine to be delivered at some point during Q1 2013.

I'm guessing if you wait until then you will then spend the rest of the 2013 catching up with your work that you haven't been able to do. Personally, that sounds like a complete arse ache to me.

Come on now! I'm sure the current model offers the performance you need to get the job done, especially since you are coming from a G5. Even the low end iMac will feel like a powerhouse.

Apart from Retina, what could be new in iMac?

Comparing with other Apple products a faster CPU (a desktop-optimised version similar to the new A6 which is mobile-optimised for iPhone 5), more and faster memory, thinner case (maybe without glass in front of display), faster USB 3.0 ports, SSD-memory instead of disk, Thunderbolt connection, I cannot think of any technical improvements. Aesthetical could be less rounded corners, thinner foot or less aluminium on frontside of case, i.e. more glass.

Oh, a 27" * Retina resolution would be an awful number of pixels to control, which would make the iMac video-chip hungry or sloppy...

I didn't see much of a difference looking at them side-by-side at a store, but my near vision has been going downhill for the last few years and I sit about 2 feet from my 27" iMac (and the 2 27" Dell u2711s next to it!!).

Some of my Chinese friends have said that the riPad is great for their older parents for readability of Chinese text, which I could understand.

No, no, no on the MBA!!! It's whole point is to be as small and light as possible. I replaced my iPad 2 with an MBA 11" and carry it around all the time. I don't want anything that makes it bigger, heavier, shorter battery life, or more expensive.

Looking forward to the new iMac and then I can happily say good riddance to the old Microsoft pc in the corner.

Late October is approaching, and still waiting. We'll see, but no rumours? No "stolen" pictures at all? Worrying, isn't it?

We didn't see any 15" Retina leaks... did we?
