No they really don't. The Intel HD 4000 alone can push out 1280x800 + 2(2560x1440), as well as 1680x1050 + 2(2560x1440). The fact of the matter is that it isn't an issue of not being able to push out that many pixels; the GPUs can push out that many pixels easily. It's clearly a software problem with OS X's HiDPI support (or lack thereof).

Agree!

See that I wouldn't do, only because I am so dependent on the basics (i.e. iTunes, Safari, and Flash Player) which will have a hard time running in 10.5.8 soon if they don't already.

The only reason I haven't upgraded yet is until recently I just could not afford it. The only issue I've had is with the flash warning in FireFox but most things still work.

That said I can't wait to see what Apple released in a few hours, less that 12 hours to go!

It's no different from moving house to another country and taking my 1 year old laptop with me...doesn't matter if it's been open in country A for 5 seconds or 5 years before moving to country B.

This is just plain stupid - you are committing tax fraud. And by the way, they can still ask you at the borders even after owning it for a year if you can prove you bought it in the UK or not.

Let's hope Apple will announce the rMBP 13" today. With the W8 laptop/tablets around the corner they better release the rMPB soon.

+1

Do you guys think there is a good chance Apple wil announce the rMBP today? If not, when do you think they will?

I wish they would hurry up with the release of this new iMac. My PowerPC G5 is on it's last legs and I need a new mac for my work. I'll be dammed if I'm gonna pay top money for an imac when they're releasing a new one very soon

I hope they get these suckers out soon. My mid-2010 iMac has been acting up lately and is getting a bit slow ever since the HD crashed and I had to get it replaced.

...

I don't own an iPad, but I compared the 2 and 3 side-by-side with the same content. It was no contest. The iPad 2 looked unreadable compared to the newer model.

Millions of people read just fine on the ipad 2 before the 3 came along

What was your point ? There is no such thing as a "Windows 8" machine. It's all just generic PCs. As long as yours meets the System Requirements on the box, it'll become a "Windows 8 machine" just fine after you've installed Windows 8 on it.

Windows 8 hybrids/ultrabooks are around the corner and although you might not like them, there are a lot of people looking for something new. There are also people who might jump into the Apple wagon because of the smaller footprint of the 13" and it's retina screen, but don't want to wait too long either. Nowadays it's all about portability and screen resolution, so the smaller footprint of a 13" rMBP plus the retina screen will be very interesting for all of these people, thus it's a major selling point for Apple.

People watched TV "just fine" via over-the-air black and white broadcasts. People heard AM radio "just fine". People played video games "just fine" on their Odyssey 2 consoles.

My thoughts exactly. I was thinking my early-2011 13" MBP may need replacing by the time the Rev. 2 13" rMBP comes out with Haswell next year.

Exactly. Haswell + Retina is a good time for me to buy a laptop. Apple, go have fun for another year, I don't care, I'll be back when Haswell is there.

Unless I stay away until Broadwell :-D

I just want to quote this again so that people finally start understanding. Discrete GPU is not a requirement for the number of pixels.

Why ? For me, Microsoft is in the process of doing the largest scale double shoot-in-the-foot operation in history. Windows 8: so different that it scares away people. Doesn't really work on a PC (because of the tablet-style "start screen") and doesn't really work on a tablet (because you basically need a keyboard+mouse to operate it).

At the same time, Microsoft is pushing users towards a subscription model for Office 2013: $99/year (instead of $119 for a licence without time limit before). Also, just now that Mac is becoming a mainstream platform, Office 2013 won't support Mac.

All things that start eventually come to an end. I would not be surprised if this double whammy starts speeding up the downward spiral that it seems Microsoft has been in since the end of Bill Gates' period as CEO.
