is it though? I didn't even notice the difference when I upgraded
Same here. I went from an 11 to a 13 Pro. Love the new phone, but haven’t noticed the ProMotion (or what I was “missing” without to) even a single time since I’ve had the 13 Pro.

I had to watch YouTube videos demoing it to see the difference.

Have you tried going the other way? I’ve upgraded to a 13Pro from 11Pro and didn’t notice it much besides it being a bit more smoother. But then I’ve used my brother’s 12 and could see it right away. I could actually read the text while scrolling on the 13 Pro but was impossible on 11 Pro.

The cheapest garbage Android phone still manage to use 120hz panels, so I wonder what’s holding Apple back to use it in their €799 entry model phones?
Probably more for product differentiation.

Also, are the panels used in these Android phones capable of variable refresh rate?

I would be surprised if the non-pro models didn't at least get variable refresh rates in the future. Even if the cap is just 60 HZ for those devices, there would probably be a slight jump in battery life. Which is a win for everyone.

What the iPhone model needs desperately is the “Always on Displays” across the iPhone lineup. Apple Watch Series 6/7 has them.

The thing is, I see a very different battery life on my Series 6 between having that feature on and off.
Having that off can last for more than 2 days of usage. However, if I left that feature on, it barely last a day and a half.

Please enlighten me on what benefit does the always on display have?

Why? Who needs their display on when they aren't using the device? Battery consumption would go up as well.
I have it on my Apple Watch S6 and S7. I honestly love it because the screen is able to show the calendar date, weather, time, battery life indicator, music, missed calls, notifications at all times. You can see all the information at first glance instead of relying on "Tap to Wake".

If battery life is a major concern. Plenty of things can be turned off instead. This is a good article below ⬇️

Pro-Motion is made for the Pro-models respectively. It should stay.

What Apple needs to do is further maximize it and push it to 144Hz without sacrificing the battery life.
120Hz refresh is great because it is past the “frame rate” of your eyes and is evenly divisible by 60, 30, and 24. So all 3 of the major frame rates are supported by 120 frames per second. For this reason the 144HZ and 165Hz refresh rates of newer monitors doesn’t really make a lot of sense to me. I think Apple will stay at 120 until they can jump to 240Hz and eventually 480Hz.

On a related note, this also means that if you shoot video at 120 fps it becomes easy to drop it down to the lower frame rates by omitting the extra frames and using the data from the dropped frames to add motion blur back to the pixels so it doesn’t look choppy.

Ya'll really were gonna trust some guy named "Jeff Pu"? Last time I checked, almost all of his guesses for 2020/2021 were wrong... man's got no job but make up stories (I mean, that's 90% of the rumor media anyway)

I wonder if you don’t quite understand the point of a website with Rumors in its name

it’s not MacLetswaitforApplesPressReleases.com

So you want Mac Rumors to not report… Mac rumors?

People, I was personifying MacRumors and imagining it getting to a point of burnt-out frustration with the "it will!" / "it won't!" nature of some rumours.

120hz screens are not some super high end expensive technology that Apple invented, should be a basic feature across all models by now.

It's not a pro feature either, it's just a higher refresh screen that can be had for cheap on larger desktop panels for years so why they even call it a pro feature I'll never know.

If I knew a few more details like cost, I’d add a modified version of it that locks it at 60 and below. That way you can take advantage of some of the battery saving perks and possibly maybe smarter notifications to leverage the oled screen if it could support it.

Right, it is called "ProMotion", not "ForEveryoneMotion".

People are mentioning always-on displays. I would like always-on and I assume it turns-off in the pocket.

Supply issues or not, Apple makes such huge contracts on new tech that it can choke the ability for anyone else to have access to the latest tech. So I would have seen them play this exclusivity game regardless of supply chain issues. Apple is clever on how it carries out monopolistic tactics. They’ll probably also be the last to upgrade the screens on the cheapest models if they cannot find them at lower prices. Hard to tell what their longest supply contract is for such things. Either way, the consumer who gives Apple the most money always “wins”.

I suspect it makes sense to reserve ProMotion for the Pro models. I hope it doesn't take *too* many years to get to the non-Pros, though.

As for always-on displays: disabling it would be the first thing I did on any iPhone that had it.

No, Variable refresh rate screens are on the Premium midrange and flagship Android phones at this moment in time…

The regular iphones will get some form of higher refresh rate in the near future though, there is only so long Apple can get away with keeping their regular iphones on 60hz screens.

True, Jeff Pu could be serving a load of crappola
