Polite question: Have you been to Shenzhen in recent years? They (and whole of china) are innovating. Faster (and better in many cases) than anyone else on the earth. Pumping huge amount of cash in research and tech development. Most of the leading US professors of fundamental physics, optics, materials science are originally Chinese... lol. Check leading Science/Nature publications.
The arrogance of the west will be the reason for its demise.
China is an autocratic hellhole that keeps citizens locked away in “re-education camps” unable to contact their family members. I just listened to an interview with a Uighur refugee in North Carolina who is desperately trying to find out if his mother in China is still alive because they sent her away to a camp. They’re also planning to execute several Canadian tourists “accused” of very suspicious crimes as retaliation for the arrest of Huawei’s CEO.

Relax everyone. You're not looking at the long game here. This trade war will likely have stabilized by the time this years' iPhones are released. Not that Apple won't use it as an excuse to jack prices anyway. smh

that dumb guy at the white house didnt take into account of another very important aspect. Chinese people are already starting to boycott US tech products. There is a huge anti US sentiment running in the country now. This will never change back even if a deal is struck.

You are using the word "never" which guarantees that your statement is wrong. Perhaps you should try to stop seeing the world in such black and white terms.

and what are the europeans going to feel? :)
If Apple uses this as an excuse to increase EU prices, that would be horrible for their business. They’re already too high over here. If US citizens want to pay more taxes in order to keep on winning, then that’s their prerogative.

This could put Apple in a very difficult situation. Prices are too high and this year's sales numbers are confirming it. I don't think Apple will dare to raise the prices this year again, at least, they won't in in non-us countries.

apply would raise prices even if they got a tax break..........

Apple does not use EU VAT as an excuse to raise US prices.

This will not stop me from upgrading in 2019.
everything in the world is going up so might as well get used to it and except it .

Congrats! Let’s see if the American people will vote for him again...
ITs the two sides to the same coin.
Everyone thought things were going to change when Obama came in..yes a much smarter man was president and softer on social issues but he kept the military industrial complex going full steam ahead.
The idea that the leaders of the world can really do any leading is a dream.
They ALL do what they are told by the cabal.

It wouldn’t matter anyways guys. Most people are not gonna buy an iPhone before the next election is over. It is good for consumers. With the added tax the sales of iPhone will be so low and Apple will be very nervous about, not revenue, but market share, as it is integral for the survival of App Store and the iOS/macOS ecosystem. They will over correct it afterwards.

Why, exactly? The whole purpose of a business is to maximize profit. It's not community service, patriotism, or platitudes. Also, Apple's stock, which benefits from those profits, are widely held by millions of taxpayers in their 401k and IRAs. Why should they pay to falsely prop up failing factories?
[doublepost=1557849156][/doublepost]

The people working at Foxconn are able to leave if they choose. They were not forced to work there by their government, and were not kidnapped and brought there. Saying it's "slave labor" to make smartphones insults the people who are REALLY enslaved in this world.
every single country charges import fees, why should apple be any different?

This is an opportunity for manufacturers to raise their prices and then once they determine consumers tolerance level they will keep them higher even if the tariffs are reduced. Once Apple starts charging $100 more for an iPhone and people keep buying don't expect them to lower it again.

The constant massive trade deficits just are NOT tenable. Dealing with a country with no respect of intellectual property just is NOT tenable. Working with a country that treats its people like garbage (sometimes LITERALLY discarded on the street, due to the "one (now two) child policy") should NOT be tenable.

In the meantime, Apple is building the most expensive, luxurious office and retail buildings on earth, and in some stores has electronic displays more appropriately sized for Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys Football Stadium, while charging a fortune for its products.

I, for one, don't mind seeing Apple pulled back a bit into reality. It's far better for the long-term to get this sorted out now. Frankly, it should have been sorted out 15 years ago.

Apple are smart, though, so with their numerous subsidiaries all over the world and some assembly lines in India (just next door from China) I am not too worried.

Maybe we should boycott things being made in China then. The Chinese are our greatest threat economically. We should show them what happens when you take away the absolutely unprecedented buying power of the USA. start making everything in Africa / India / other Asian nations. Forget China.
