Oh man. Put down the kool aid

Obama said “what are ya gonna do wave a magic wand” now he’s blaming Bush for his failures after 2 terms and taking credit for economic surging growth under trump. He hates trump so much he wanted to wait until after his administration to let the economy take off. So people “might” mistakenly give credit to trump. Lol!!!

The irrationality never ends. Baffling
The 2008 financial meltdown was caused by Bush policies and those policies plunged the USA into the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression. Obama policies had to undo all that financial vandalism and it was only starting to gain traction in the later years of his second term. Much as Republicans hate to admit it, the recovery is 100% down to Obama but Republicans are always the ones to steal the achievements of others. The Republican voters just ignore the facts before them and vote idiots like Trump as he says what they want to hear.

The obama Hype and pop culture infiltration and lecturing come
Down is real for so many people
Sadly.
Some people just don't want to believe what they know is true. It's easier to believe the lies put out by the Republican PR machine as Republican voters have dreamy ideas that they rationalize in their heads but don't work in practice. When you look at the facts historically, there's a clear correlation between Democratic presidents restoring the economy from Republican disaster and Republican presidents destroying that which a Dem prez created. Obama and Clinton are the two most recent examples. Learn from history. It's all written down.

iPhones and Macs would be priced out of reach for many of Apple's customers if they were manufactured in the US. This isn't unique to Apple. Companies don't manufacture in China because it's fun. I am pretty sure that loosing a yuge chunk of customers is not what Apple would view as a component to an "easy solution".
True, if Apple maintains their current $300 manufacturing to $1k price margins.

Not expensive enough as is? You would happily pay more? You Trump supporters blow my mind. You realize that you’re just agreeing with all of his ideas right? If Obama had done this, I’m confident you would have called him a socialist.

Browse through the comments. Not one mention of the word socialism, but that’s what this tax is - an increase in taxation and government intervention carried out very unintelligently.
You are purposefully forgetting the whole point of the tariff is to fix the terribly rigged trade agreement the USA has with China. You usually cannot fix things (in general but politics especially) without wrecking them a little. It is people like you are so short-sighted that they do not understand the long term gains is why we stand for Trump so strongly. We are saving your sorry ass & frankly hearing you scold us is getting kind of annoying.

The math is simple higher tariffs on products manufactured in China - lower sales = layoffs in US for American engineers and support staff & retail stores. Result higher US unemployment nice one!!

Further proof that Trump is an economic moron.
We don't need proof - he cannot read he watches TV, eats Mcdonalds & Kentucky Fried Chicken and he cannot pronounce the word "Anonymous"

Finally Americans are starting to be paying the same insane prices for Apple devices as the rest of the world. Justice served.

You know, I keep on hearing just this.
Let’s assume I know nothing. Could you kindly explain which parts of the current agreement you believe are “terribly rigged”?

You are not just repeating a mantra, are you?

It made sense to charge Europeans money to sell manufactured goods into our economy in 1800. It sheltered American manufacture, allowing us to grow our own manufacture, which is the real source of wealth, not so much the sale or our raw materials, like cotton. That was how Europe paid off the cost of our revolution, made out taxes low, but allowed us to grow, over time, into the greatest manufacturer the world had seen. But by the time we were that, we had cut tariffs greatly, and invented the income tax, because now we were the world’s greatest source of cheap (but quality) manufactured goods. So why make them harder to sell? What changed after the Second World War was that the whole world has become richer, and we have been the dominant economy. We have no reason to increase tariffs. It makes the rest of the world wonder, we’ll, why don’t we develop our manufacture? The world trade deals are good for everyone. If we collect tariffs on the products of Chinese factories, iPhones cost Americans more. They cost the Chinese more to buy these Chinese products. The Chinese buy more strictly Chinese plants. So to build the manufacturing plant in the US, what would we do? Put up robot factories. Where would we get the pieces of the next iPhone? China, all around the world. The world’s economy is not like it was in 1945.

It calls the MacMini a "computing tool". No sure what to make of that, TBH.

OTOH, does that mean my 2012 i7 will get up in value even more?
;-)
(Only kidding, they've come down in value a bit since the release of the 2014 model - with no ability to drive 4k display, their use has become a bit limited. Not everyone wants to shell out 2k for a decent 30" non-4k display.)

Apple could make the products here. Problem solved. Oh...wait.... that means a cut in the insane profits which will get the miserable shareholders all pissed off. Got it. Never mind.

I always thought Apple championed human type stuff and injustices. That would point to them wanting to do the right thing here as in move manufacturing to the states and pay some good wages here. But, Apple and Tim Cook are like any other high ranking blow hard: they are only into humanitarian stuff until it might cost them a few bucks. Then, they run and hide. So typical.

So, nope, on with the cheap Chinese slave labor. Awesome.

How does Apple solve the logistics issues? Labour costs aren't the primary driver here. https://www.extremetech.com/electronics/241870-iphone-production-isnt-coming-united-states

You people are know nothings.

China is using their massive mercantile surpluses to supplant the entire West in Africa and in our "back yard" Latin America. China is rapidly replacing the USA on the world stage. China is replacing The World Bank.

The US spends billions and goes around the world and makes war. Chine is spending billions in Africa to improve infrastructures.

"Apple could make the products here. Problem solved."

Really? Last year Apple manufactured, on the average, close to 600,000 iPhones every day of the year. Add to that iPads, Macs, Watches, AirPods, etc.

Please, tell me where in the United States that level of sophisticated infrastructure and labor pool exists in order to accommodate Apple's needs?

In reference, one of Foxconn's facilities in China that Apple uses has a manufacturing campus/city employing 400,000 assemblers, whose development was highly subsidized by the Chinese government.

"Oh...wait.... that means a cut in the insane profits which will get the miserable shareholders all pissed off."

You mean the roughly 38% GPM, which is in line with industry norms and much less than Samsung's?

I wonder if Apple will jack up the prices in Hong Kong to match US prices as well. Crazy prices expected in future for all Apple products thanks to that nuthead Trump we have in office in America.

It’s not just the salaries that need to be accounted for. You have workers comp insurance and all those other BS permits and fees that the government in the US makes you pay. Then you have to add claims and lawsuits that come with all of that too. You don’t have all that BS in China.

You must remember that in China the Chinese government usually supports local manufacturers and does not go after them with fines and lawsuits like they do in America milking every manufacturer to death with fines, fees and lawsuits.

You mean bribing and coercing African governments. The backlash against the PRC for their one-sided deals in Africa is already starting.

Anyway, back in the US there is so much winning.

Because products like iPhone, iPad, and MacBook literally cannot be manufactured in the U.S. That's why they're not on the list. Tim Cook was able to get an exemption on those products.

For example, the U.S. does not have CNC equipment, let alone the tradespeople and process engineers to manufacture the aluminum enclosures. It's estimated Apple has purchased or leased over 20,000 CNC machines overseas.

In theory, the U.S. could make the low-tech products like Watch, HomePod, and cables domestically. But there's no chance the workforce could make an iPad.
With this much information, I'm afraid you'll have to cite sources to retain your credibility.

Catcher, Casetek (Pegatron), and Foxconn are the three largest aluminum enclosure manufacturing companies in the world. You can check their income statements to confirm. They are on Apple's supplier list. These are all companies from Taiwan with production facilities in China. The CNC lathes used by these companies are manufactured in China.

Apple sold over 200 million iPhones in 2017. That means 600,000 aluminum enclosures every 24 hours, not including iPad, Mac, Watch. If you know an U.S. company that has even 10% of that production capacity, let Tim Cook know.

Well, while we have wasted a fortune on regime change in the Middle East and 17 years of war, China has been putting their money to better use.

The World Bank and the IMF are not saints and they have done lots of damage to much of the third and developing world. Much of this debt goes straight to the dictators and cronies and seldom actually helps the country. Then these guys start printing money like crazy setting off hyperinflation and decimating already mediocre economies.

Many South American countries are also fed up after decades American imperialism, arrogance and coup d’etat after coup d’etat and are receptive to new partners. China also has an interest in getting these countries to cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan and they will provide monetary incentives to achieve this. They have been very successful at reducing Taiwan’s friends since Donald’s election.

I think Taiwan could stand to benefit from all of this if production was shifted from China to Taiwan. If Taiwan is not subject to these 25% import duties then Taiwan and Apple have a lot to gain unless that nuthead Trump decides to impose 25% duties on all Apple imports from Taiwan as well.
