Instead of pondering what you should and would do on an iPad, and what some unsubstantiated number of people actually do with their iPads, I think it would be better if Apple avoids promoting and highlighting a feature that isn't ready out of the box or has a list of caveats.

Any way, really dumb no matter how you look at it.

What's dumb is expecting Apple to provide default applications which take advantage of advanced features.

Let's say Apple adds real-time hardware ray tracing support to the SoC. This is a feature which is most useful in games. Should they really have to provide a default game with this feature?

Buying a third-party applications lets you support developers too!

Does that really matter here? This is not a thread about the pluses and minuses of ProRes. If someone want to shoot Pro Res and their equipment can handle it, who's to tell them to not do so because it doesn't fit into your aesthetics? The hate around here is getting worse. More and more people will leave. Only haters will remain. Enjoy the mutual hate.

Those people should really get used to buying apps from developers.

Probably many of them are angry at Apple for taking a commission from developers, but at the same time they aren't willing to support developers themselves.

I wouldn't be surprised if, at some point, Apple followed the likes of auto-makers and started locking functions behind a subscription paywall. Sure, your iPad is capable of shooting in pro-res, if you're an Apple One subscriber or pay $5 a month. Hey, we're just offering more options for the consumer. You don't have to pay if you don't plan on using it!
Don’t give them ideas

The M2 iPad Pro supports ProRes video recording for the first time, but customers of the new iPad wishing to take advantage of the capability will have to do so through a third-party app, as Apple's native Camera app seemingly does not support the format.

Customers started receiving their new M2 iPad Pros this week, and noticed that ProRes was not an option within Settings for the Camera. As Mac Otakara points out, recording ProRes on the new iPad Pro requires a third-party app that's been updated for the new capability, such as FiLMiC Pro.

Apple did not respond to MacRumors' request for comment on whether this is a bug and if the native Camera app will gain the ability to record ProRes video in a future update.

The new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro are incremental upgrades mainly featuring the new M2 Apple silicon chip, ProRes video recording, and a new hover feature for the second-generation Apple Pencil.

I got my 2022 M2 iPad Pro 12.9 on Wednesday, installed iPadOS 16.1 immediately and actually can select 4K60 video in settings->camera->formats

iPad Pro is a luxury item. You need the muscle and capabilities then go for a MacBook. Go for an iPad Pro if you want a steady and stellar performing OS with an epically beautiful-looking screen which is excellent for use of entertainment or art work.

That isn’t ProRes. Not sure what your point is here? I think you don’t understand properly what the issue is.

Speaking about why iPadOS still lacks a native calculator app, [Greg] Joswiak said, "There are a ton of them. Go to the App Store." "I use third-party apps," he continued when pressed by the Wall Street Journal's Joanna Stern on what the two executives do when they want to calculate something on their iPads.
In a future interview, speaking about why the M2 iPad Pro still lacks a native ProRes video recording app, Apple's Greg Joswiak will say: "There are a ton of them. Go to the App Store. I use third-party apps!" [speculation, this quote is yet to happen]

Nullumaluphobia is a real thing. That’s the only thing that I can think of that would account for folks NOT wanting to use a calculator app without an Apple on it. (There’s even one that was developed by a MacRumors forum member… and is free.)

It's nothing like that is it?

The correct comparison would be, Apple has a game that would benefit from hardway ray tracing that comes pre loaded on every iOS device, then they release and new SOC that supports hardware ray tracing but doesn't add support to the pre loaded game.

Pro is used to artificially jack up price of a standard model.
Do you have any proof of this? Any documentation? Anything at all? Or is this just a depraved way of looking at the world? It accomplishes nothing other than to provide some distorted entertainment to the rest of the haters.

Apple has a lot of problems, that's for sure. What is also for sure is that the hate isn't going to solve anything other than to satisfy some bizarre psychological need. If any Apple exec would be foolish enough to waste his time reading comments like these, the last thing they would do would be to encourage that person to improve things. Quite the opposite, in fact.

I guess Apple didn’t think anybody with an iPad Pro would really use it.

Not that Apple is right in any way, but how many people are using iPad Pro like a video recorder? Or even thinking of using ProRes?
They showed it in the video

When I used to work at Apple a customer asked me "What's the difference between an iMac and an iPad?" I'm not joking. I answered, "Do you have an iPhone?" They said "Yes" I replied, "An iPad is like a big iPhone". One of my co-workers told my supervisor this, and I actually got in trouble for saying that. And this was back when the first iPad was released! My point, the iPad is still a giant iPhone with a few extra features thrown in. I'm never surprised at what it can't do.
It can do a lot more than twelve years ago though to be fair
