This could be a great thing...this could be engineered into the "user replaceable" battery that so many people want. It could be designed with a notch that the mag battery goes into and the phone still stays completely sealed and highly water resistant. There could be different size batteries....like the old Motorola StarTac. there were batteries of different capacities, the small ones were flush to the back of the phone and the larger ones bulged out.

Now this is honestly a great use of MagSafe. Will totally buy! (with or without the reverse charging)

Hopefully it's priced between $30 and $80, like other Apple chargers?
It will most likely be $129. The same price as Apple’s Battery Cases. I’d happily purchase that.

Hope they bring out battery case as well as these instead of them replacing the cases, really want the smart battery case for my 12 mini

It makes me think this was a product they had in mind when MagSafe was first considered for the iPhone — perfect application for this technology.

Calling it now, if they release both it’ll be at least $129 for the regular and $159 for the reverse charging one lmao. Apple never misses an opportunity to shock us with the price of a “basic” device.
Do you know much R&D went into this? The cost to mass produce it?

Just curios since you seem to.

Hopefully it has micro suction pads to keep this $150 battery from falling off.

I don’t think reverse charging battery will be able to charge something on its back. It could name something like dual or that kind. Reverse charging sounds like it will be able to charge an iPhone and it will be able to charge itself with MagSafe. Personally I don’t like idea of reverse charging of AirPods using something else in the middle. The only practical way to charge AirPods is just resting them on my iPhone.

I have been using third party MagSafe power bank for quite some time now. It’s really only good in theory, but because of how inefficient wireless charging is, it’s not worthwhile in practice.

Let’s say I have a 5000 mAh power bank. Using a cable I get 4000mah to my phone, but with magsafe (wireless charging) I am only getting 2500-3000 mAh. (depends positioning and case thickness)

But the battery pack isn't "Reverse Charging" its just charging from both sides. Right?
Well, the quote was that "the battery supports reverse charging" so it's anyone's guess. I would think it would be worded as "two-sided charging" if that were the case. If I think "reverse" I think "goes in the opposite direction" which likely means that the battery gets charged using the same coil it uses to charge so likely via a magsafe charger.

I like this idea. A magsafe wall charger that can be disconnected at anytime and brought along with you as an extra battery pack.

very cool... This would put an end to having to buy more packs . But with anything interesting, I guess they'll be limitations to go along with it, like there won't be these for older phones.

But it would be a good incentive to upgrade to a 12.

My guess is reverse charging means that the battery pack can be recharged by a standard MagSafe charger. So the battery pack can send a charge and receive a charge from the same MagSafe connection. At least that's what made the most sense to me when I read the headline.

I stopped believing Prosser when he said there was going to be an Apple Glass Steve Jobs Heritage Edition. The company isn't desperate enough to make money off of a deceased individual.
