I guess my needs are simple. I only use Apple hardware and Safari, so the Apple KeyChain works pretty well for me. Apple should consolidate the features into a single app. The shortcut written by an apple engineer makes managing passwords in the KeyChain much easier.

Proton is... just annoying with their email and sometimes encrypting it even when not wanted. KeePassXC for local encrypted manager (could be synced with syncthing) or self hosted bitwarden...

I switched from Apple Mail to Proton Mail and am enjoying the upgrade. Native apps for Apple hardware… and they’re all fast and pretty and full of advanced features. iCloud Keychain and Apple Mail have both caused me weeks of lost productivity. Mail in particular chokes on multiple email accounts with lots of email, and its search feature simply doesn’t work.

Proton takes my product feedback seriously and responds quickly and even tells me they want more feedback to improve their products. They are taking this seriously.

That was an Okta issue. Also from that very same link:

"On September 29, we detected suspicious activity on our Okta instance that we use to manage our employee-facing apps."

"We immediately terminated the activity, investigated, and found no compromise of user data or other sensitive systems, either employee-facing or user-facing."

Listen, I can't stand 1Password after they didn't grandfather us original customers in very well years back. But this is bullocks. This is the system working. No data was taken and they reported the incident.

Do they say why? Is it just for Chinese customers?

icloud keychain does sync with chrome with a small apple extension, and also works out of the box with mobile chrome. you can also use the shortcuts app to turn it into a launchable app for conveniece

Another paid Bitwarden convert here. I defected from Lastpass (ugh) then 1Password (ever increasing fees). Bitwarden is a little clunky, and while I'm reluctant to switch again I might look at this. I'm all in on Apple, but I do keep a Windows box around for gaming and a couple of legacy work things which is one of the reasons KeyChain isn't enough.

bitwarden is cool but i can't bear the interface. icloud keychain with a few tweaks can do everything i need

What would you like Apple to improve? For me iCloud Keychain does a very good job.

You can’t add fields and it’s not always easy to find an entry, depending on how Apple labels and also can’t edit the title of an entry. Keychain also has a bad habit of not saving suggested passwords during creation of an entry.

Their updates and overall polish and continual feature improvements -- and how great it works cross platform -- have sold me.

They are doing subscriptions "right" in my book

Yet in every thread about password manager people explain why Apple’s solution doesn’t meet their needs. I use 1Password for more than just passwords. It is miles better FOR MY NEEDS than keychain.
