I say this is fake, Apple no longer prints the GB capacity on the back of the iPhone4 so there would be no need to print 'XXGB' on a prototype.

Correction: It appears that previous leaked prototypes have had XXGB printed on the back glass, doesn't really make any sense they would even bother printing XXGB.

wasn't the limiting factor in the iPhone4 that there just wasn't enough room for two 32GB memory chips?

PLEASE yes! I was so disappointed they didn't bump it last year. It is over due.

A prototype wouldn't have FCC and other regulatory badges on it. I call fake.

I think the broadcom chip to allow for cell service was the size limiting factor. I really hope they bump it up though. . . Even though I betrayed the iPhone line and bought a Motorola Atrix. I'm contemplating selling it closer to iPhone 5 / 4Gs (which I hope to god its not) and buying the 5 out of contract.

I want one! Or 128 gb!!!

Seriously if they don't have a 64 or 128 this summer I refuse to buy a new one. Unless there was some design restraint that I completely missed for the iPhone 4 it really is unacceptable that they didn't upgrade from the 32GB. I don't know anyone under 60 that has fewer than 30 gigs of music and apps alone, let alone photos and space for taking more video ...

Edit: sorry I didn't finish reading the thread before posting; however if people have been modding them to fit then hopefully it is possible now and/or absolutely possible for the 5

The biggest letdown about the iPhone 4 was it was still 32gb. Honestly i don't care much about the front facing camera (retina and A4 were the selling points for me to upgrade from 3GS) but i look strongly forward for the day a 64gb comes out and i can finally ditch my iPod classic (i have ~40gb of music)

If the 5 is 64gb i will rejoice in happiness!!!!

how problematic is a 64gb version of an iphone going to be? Apart from the price point increase! Is it even a big price difference for a 64gb flash opposed to a 32gb?

Single 64GB NAND chip back when the iPhone 4 was released was running over $300....

What are the prices now? That's quit a big sum and obviously it would have affected the price point. You can't have everything in a device with a certain price point, but apple should maybe offer a 64gb version even if the price shoots up. I'm sure a lot of people here would buy one including me if i had the money.

They sell a 64 gb iPod touch for $399, a 32 gb for $299 and a 16gb for $229. What exactly is the reason now for not selling a 64 gb iPhone 4 for $399?

I think we are seeing the next iPhone... Expansion of the hdd.... This has been one of the biggest complaints since the original iPhone. So time will tell if it is this year or next!

I find this more believable than the aluminium backed rumour from earlier on..

iPod Touch can fit two NAND chips whereas the iPhone only one (the simcard/GSM chip takes the other slot and I assume the CDMA chip on the Verizon.) That's why iPod Touch always was capable of twice whatever the iPhone has. 64GBs was too much $$ when iPhone 4 came out. 2 32GB chips were actually much cheeper then 1 64GB chip- not sure what prices are now but if it makes it into the iPhone, you bet next November, iPod Touch will have 128 GBs.

I believe universal (iPad / iPhone) apps are bigger than ones optimised for just the iPhone, which is eating a lot of space.

I hadn't updated apps for a while, and had 4 gigs left on my 32 gig iPhone. There was 9 updates, of which 7 were to make the apps universal. After the updates, I only had 0.6 Megs free!

So we need a 64, if not a 128 Meg iPhone. Hopefully by 2012 / 2013, memory prices will be so low, a 256 Meg one will be possible at the current 32 Meg price point, but sadly I think the days of doubling capacity at the same price points year on year has gone.

Hmmm

Looks photoshopped to me - especially the back. But that said, I wouldn't be surprised if they did increase the storage in the next update. There should be plenty of 64GB chips knocking about by the time they want to ship the next gen phone.

Probably fake; why would Apple start putting capacity on their 64gig phones when they didn't put it on their other models?

By fixing prices, the component manufacturers are obviously making sure that the larger-capacity flash/SSDs remain ridiculously expensive. My understanding is that Apple, too, contributes to price fixing rather than fetch the cost of storage down.
Look at the iPad 2, for instance. Mr. Jobs and his henchmen built a couple of cellphone quality "cameras" into the new models, shaved off 90 grams and a couple of millimetres - and voilà - there's the Pad 2! So splendidly exciting! For housewives, that is, kindergarten-age "consumers" and survivors of the WW I. The same preposterously measly storage (could anyone lay out the practical use of a 16 GB iPad???), the same aesthetically-crippling resolution! Thinner and lighter, Eureka!

My iPhone, too, is full at all times! Every evening I spent an hour or so contemplating which programs to remove from my iPhone to sustain its working order! How "innovative" is that! Apple's innovation, to some extent, is its resolution to halt progress.

That's like over 2000 CDs! You must be a DJ!

Or just older? :D I have 80+ GB of music collected over *many* years (several hundred pre CD for example)! A lot I don't play often, but I do have more than 32GB that I would ideally want on my phone.
