I want one

I think this is the next iPhone and as has been said above its probably been boosted out of the production plant where it was one of their QA test units. And those seams - well they don't bother me anyway, but as I've said before, I think they could be used to locate add-ons to the phone - So that you could for example, either slide an accessory on using the seams to keep it straight or possibly snap one on too. Game pad add-on anyone...

Re the seams - I think this is a distinct possibility - would add a bit of solidity to any plug in device.

The screws are gone, but the seams are still there? Really? You keep me guessing Jonny...

I think Apple can get by for another year with their souped-up A8 cortex just fine. But, I wonder how much longer they can wait to do this year-by-year upgrade with so many competitive handsets coming out nowadays. Hasn't hurt them yet, I guess.

I like how he kept pressing the Home button in the hopes that it would do something. But nope. :(

Did the video ever show it turning off or showing anything else on the screen?

I'm half suspicious that he got hold of just the case and put in a backlit transparency he created. That's an actual ploy sometimes used in NYC to sell dummy iPhones to unsuspecting people in quick back alley transactions.

Edit: never mind. Forgot about him showing off the internal parts.

Function over form

I wonder how long before 3rd parties come out with cases that make the iPhone HD look like the 3G.

I hope Tom Tom still fits

Anyone think that my £100 Tom Tom cradle is now junk? Someone said the iPhone was taller, it is already a tight fit...

IMO it seems to detailed for a knock-off. However I can't think of a reason it shouldn't be fully operational, especially as the iPhone gizmodo brought was reported to be working prior to it being disabled by Apple. The plot thickens....

I'd guess that this is a real unit off the production line which failed burn-in testing (hence the stuck burn-in screen). It was therefore sent for disposal/recycling, but somehow was "diverted" into the hands of these gentlemen.

Good point, but where did he get the internal components?

The screws were likely just a feature of the pre-production units that Apple engineers received, and were never intended to be a feature on real production units.

As for the seams, no doubt they serve some function/purpose - antennas?

Screws on the bottom never stopped them from releasing an iPhone before.

A little flexing, so the phone doesn't explode when dropped.

The hype is simply gone already. Launching early is the only surprise Steve has left.

The hype isnt gone, the surprise is. Now come june youre not going to be saying "OMG whats it gonna look like ahhhhhhhhhhhhh?" Now youre just gonna be saying "is it going to be the same as the leaks?"
