Conducting Burn In Test

My thoughts are that it is mighty late in the game to be doing a burn in test on the screen if they are going to announce availability of the iPhone HD sometime in June (if indeed the other rumors are correct). I would have thought they would have completed this in the spec testing stages.

Perhaps it is a quality control test?

I reckon it's a knock-off. They're getting better every year anyway, so why not.

The volume off switch looks a way too flakey (wobbly rather than the usual volume switch, which clicks solidly between on/off) at 1:08, and the sim drawer is protruding from the case at 1:18, rather than flush, which is an Apple aesthetic present even on the curved bezel of the 3G/3GS.

Yeah, identical to other leaked iPhone 4.0s running Apple test software with an Apple branded processor. I'm sure it's a fake.

Seams?

I'm sure there are others here who are far more knowledgeable about this, but could a functional explanation for the seams be that they are photo-sensitive?

One of the only gripes I have about my 3G iPhone is the camera, and the need to touch the screen to take a picture - I seem to blur the shot more often than not. Given that we can expect a better camera on the new iPhone, light-sensitive switches on the side of the phone might make both portrait and landscape shots easier...with zoom provided by the volume switches.

That text resolution comparison doesn't really prove anything. If you take the 320x240 text and blur it a slightly in PhotoShop (Gausian, radius: 1.1), it looks completely identical to the text above it.

If it looks identical, then that just helps prove that the prototype display IS higher resolution. Your thought process is backwards. The 320x240 image on the home page isn't showing the pixels at 1:1, so blurring it actually helps replicate what it would look like at higher res.

I probably explained that badly, but that's all the effort I can put towards it right now. :D

UGGH... It's just a small iPad.

Where is the innovation Apple???

What is it that you'd want to see and in which area?

I bet there is plenty of new stuff between software and hardware.

Please post your smartphone when you are done with your innovations:)

Gawd, I hope these images are real. RIP cheezy chrome bezel. Now if I can just get my 3gs to hold together until I'm due for the upgrade again. (My lightly used white 3GS has a crack on the dock connector working it's way up, and the chrome bezel is separating in a few different spots--I ordered it when it first came out, never dropped it or banged it.)

I had a small crack near my dock connecter while it was still under warranty and they flat handed me a brand new phone. You should take it in and at least ask them to look at it.

Wait, weren't people whining about the iPad that it was just a large iPod touch?

What are people referring to when they complain about the seams? I've never used that word in this context and I have no idea what I'm meant to be looking for. Is it how the aluminium edging is connected to the front and back?

I think this will help you out with what he was saying

Ditto, I had the same crack, and they replaced it (I was still under my 90day, but they said since i bought AppleCare, it would have been covered for 24mos)

The sad part is WWDC won't be much fun since there won't be any surprise if these iPhone leaks are real. :(

Screws

There aren't any screws at the bottom of this iPhone, whereas Gizmodo's prototype had two screws next to the speakers. I like it w/o the screws.

Screws anyone? :D

Sorry if this has already been mentioned!

I'm hoping that it is both longer and wider

That's what she ... nevermind.

Did the video ever show it turning off or showing anything else on the screen?

I'm half suspicious that he got hold of just the case and put in a backlit transparency he created. That's an actual ploy sometimes used in NYC to sell dummy iPhones to unsuspecting people in quick back alley transactions.

Edit: never mind. Forgot about him showing off the internal parts.

You can also see the battery percentage change at one point.

Wow, I don't think there has ever been this big a leak before a product release before...

i still woudn't be surprised if apple isn't trying to leak 4g iphone info intentionally. given the success of the android phones, it's probably in apple's interest to have this information released, intentional or not.

It's all about the software powering this baby. Will iChat truly finally come to the iPhone (I hope!). How does the camera with flash work/how are pictures and more importantly with that higher-res screen do we get 720p video recording?! How fast is this beast and what is the new battery life like? WWDC never looked more exciting! Don't let some shady leaks kill your buzz

I'll translate

I'm a vietnamese, so I'll take this honor please. ;)

What he's saying: The phone may look small on video, but it's big in real life. It feels very sturdy and solid in your hand. Glass on both front and back. Back camera has flash. This new iPhone is somewhat longer than the old one. He doesn't see any way of opening it beside prying it out. The screen is locked. From his guess, he says the phone can only be keep enabling by entering a code after time intervals. The width is narrower then the old phone about a couple mm and longer a couple mm. On the right is the microsim slot. Very solid and heavier than the old phone. It's a more manly phone and look more modern than the old phone. Thank you. That's it.

I think Apple can get by for another year with their souped-up A8 cortex just fine. But, I wonder how much longer they can wait to do this year-by-year upgrade with so many competitive handsets coming out nowadays. Hasn't hurt them yet, I guess.

I think the engineers union sued Apple into giving the people in the Skunkworks some PTO. With all the leaks, it has to review security. Then there are all the lawsuits. Every once in awhile, apple has to release a new desktop or laptop to shut up the whinners. Then this year, porting Lala.com into itunes. It's always busy at Apple.

But getting serious about the phone. If new Apple+PA Semi+Intrinisity family can make this Apple's A9 work, the potential for next year's iDevices to blow the covers off of any mobile device next year is a certainty.

Im not keen on the design its rather ugly and dated! no sexy curves! they should of stuck with the 3GS design slimed it down !
LIKE THIS!
iphone-4g-rumors.jpg

I may jump ship to HTC if this is what to expect from apple there turning into mass produced CR*P with no high innovative designs!

This thing just looks designed in a way to cut cost and easy to kick them out in droves!

It looks similar to a smaller version of an iPad but a little different. I do agree the iPhone needs a 64GB option since the iPod touch has that option. It would be nice if the iPhone would have a faster processor but I just don't see how a higher resolution screen would really add anything to a iPhone because of its small screen size. Especially since you wouldn't be able to output HD content to an external monitor (the iPad can't so I assume the new iPhone would not be able to). I would think that there would be really no differences between SD and HD content at this size of screen. Still I like what I am seeing here.
