I'm also having this issue. I've also noticed that even with a case, and even when NOT touching the phone at all, AND while having a reported perfect signal (5 bars), I have dropped more than half my calls...at least. WTF! :(

iDropped my call again.

Such a big company making such a crap product. Biggest launch ever? Goes to show how many people are brainwashed by SJ.

Yeah...

I can handle the antenna issue (because I would use a case anyway), and I can handle the glass shattering (because that's what glass does...and I use a case), but i'm starting to get annoyed now. Dropping calls when I have a perfect signal is not acceptable (especially this many in so few days). My 3GS rarely dropped calls...even on AT&T's ****** network. And this thing with the proximity sensor is just making me rage more.

I have confirmed with an Apple Senior Supervisor that getting people to shave more than once a day has had a big impact on making this problem less severe.

I mentioned this problem yesterday while talking to apple about the reception issue and the CSR said it was the first she had heard about it but then she put me on hold to talk to a supervisor and when she came back she said it was a known issue. ( unless Steve says its not ):D

Nice to know they seem to know about it.... I REALLY hope this gets fixed in the software update.

Yes, I have the same problem. On one 10 minute call, I muted the call, I put the other person on hold, I turned on the speakerphone, dialed numbers, and even hung up on the person. The worst part is that when I use speakerphone to avoid touching the phone, the other person has a hard time hearing me (which has never happened with my 3GS -- neither the speakerphone issue nor the proximity sensor issue). It's been incredibly frustrating -- I don't want to have to use a bluetooth headset all the time just to be able to make calls

I'm having the same problem as well as three friends. Do we have to call apple or is there a website we can report the problems?

Still having problems with this.

Previously, I had a 2G and then a 3G, and not a single time over 3 years did I ever accidentally push a button with my cheek or ear while on a call. The sensor(s) always worked.

Now, in less than a week, THREE times I have--during a call--somehow gone to contacts and attempted to bring a third party into a call. I had no idea it had happened until I heard a ringing. One of those times I evidently attempted to initiate a FaceTime with the person.

This is incredible aggravating and is, to me anyway, more of an issue than the so called death grip.

I called Apple yesterday regarding this problem. She said it was a known issue. Had me do a hard reset and a restore to see if issue went away. It did not. She told to me schedule an appointment at an Apple Store and they would probably replace it.

Me too. Damn thing keeps turning back on during calls driving me nuts.

I hope it can be fixed with an update.

This is driving me crazy. Happening constantly. I always first assume the call has been dropped. then I look and NOPE, on hold again! gotta fix this....

My proxy sensor has been driving me crazy. My phone randomly hangs up on people, creates new contacts, and turns the mute on. I hope there is a fix soon.

called apple and they had no idea this was happening. they set me up an appt with a genius bar however, i have no idea whether or not they have replacement units available or not. we will see soon.

I've pushed random buttons with my cheek several times now due to the proximity sensor not working correctly..

oddly enough, its happened most often when i'm trying to "hold the phone differently" since my typical phone hand causes signal loss..

After doing a hard reset and restore yesterday per Apple Support the sensor was still not working, continuing to hang up, mute, etc. Brought the phone in the Apple Store, guy has not heard of this issue. Tells me I should not move the phone so much while I'm talking, basically hold it flat against my face the entire call. Told me to monitor it some more and if it continues to bring it back...it's happened 3 times since. Going back to Apple tomorrow.

Same problem here. Hitting random numbers, face time, or placing calls on hold. Maybe my ears are too damn big.

I will call Apple and complain. Everyone having this should do the same. I expect a fix or a replacement.

My wife has been having this issue since day one and now I have had it happen to me about 9 times today alone! Really annoying when you are talking to your wife and she starts flirting but you face mute her and she thinks you hung up or dropped the call! Apple is ruining my sex life! LMAO!

While on a call last night the screen turned on. I was in the dark and all of a sudden I see the screen light up. This was the first time this has happened to me I have the reception issue and thought the proxcimity sensor wasn't an issue for me but thats not the case. :(
