Moderators have such a high workload because the rules are so strict (especially when talking about trolling or insults). Make it illegal to walk down the street wearing a blue shirt and police will be giving out violation tickets all day.
The rules about trolling and insults have not been changed and apply in all of our forums, not just PRSI.

The rules are not that strict but I'm sure you are well aware of that.

Right, except for now people are banned without warning.
They are not banned, they are blocked from the PRSI forum. The other alternative would be a permanent ban from all of our forums but we tried to avoid that as we've found that the PRSI forum can bring the worst out of members who would otherwise not cause problems for us.

The Forum Rules are quite clear about how seriously we take trolling and insults so if members keep ignoring warnings and suspensions they should expect moderation to escalate.

Instantly Bannable Offenses

These offenses can result in temporary forum suspensions or permanent bans. If you get a warning, heed it!

Insults. Direct personal insult of another forum member (e.g., "You are an idiot.") and other name-calling. Why? Because this isn't grade school. People should be able to discuss or even dispute other's posts without insulting people. You may dispute somebody's opinion but not attack/flame the person who stated it. There are a lot of other non-direct-personal insults that won't necessary get you banned instantly, but depending on the context/nature may lead to post editing, post deletion, warnings, or time-outs. They include telling people to shut up, describing a member as an ignorant person (rather than ignorant about a particular topic), and being extremely or repeatedly rude or sarcastic. It's not your place to tell other users they are not welcome; if they follow the rules, they are welcome. Bottom line -- don't try to tick off others and don't make discussions unnecessarily personal. If somebody else insults you, report their post; their post does not give you a license to break the rules by returning their insults. Although we do not read Private Messages sent between forum members, the rules for appropriate and inappropriate content apply to them as well.

Trolling. Do not post in order to anger other members or intentionally cause negative reactions. For a given post, this can be a subjective call, but a pattern of such posting or an especially egregious case will get you banned.

Is the first person HexMonkey responded to’s removal from this thread permanent?

Thanks for your work and effort to communicate with members. Sets this site above a lot of others.

You keep replying to me but I feel like you aren't reading or understanding what I am saying. Maybe I am not being clear?

blocked or banned from PRSI. Yes, I am permanently banned/blocked from PRSI.

The rules changed without warning in 2017 to permanently block/Ban users from PRSI, they were put in a sticky thread that I never saw. (had the admins not locked the thread I might have seen it) Since I do NOT go directly to the PRSI forums, I click the "New Post" url.

On top of that for those who didn't see the announcement, it would have been nice to warn them in the reminders that they would be permanently banned/blocked from PRSI.

Am I not being clear in what I am trying to say? Posting rule changes in a place where I don't look doesn't seem fair.

Yes, I am permanently banned/blocked from PRSI.
I could also claim that you are not reading what I have posted. If you had read the link to forum announcement I provided, you should have seen this information.

The changes to moderation are as follows:
  1. Three violations of the Rules for Appropriate Debate in the PRSI forum within six months will generally result in the user losing access to the PRSI forum. Other patterns of behavior that don't meet this criteria precisely but are of similar severity may also result in loss of access. After the first such loss of access the user can apply for access after a minimum of one year, and reinstatement will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The second such loss of access is permanent.

From reading through the thread, it's fairly clear that *some members* either don't get it, or they willfully ignore the numerous responses from multiple other commenters (I suppose that's more likely, given my anecdotal experience with their posting history) in order to repeatedly post the same statements over and over and over and ov... well you get the idea.

Is the first person HexMonkey responded to’s removal from this thread permanent?

More likely formulating a way to respond in exactly the same manner as before - "why haven't the admins commented, I'm going to the media to shed light on this horrific behavior, if I went into Walmart and caused a scene about how they didn't serve me b/c I'm conservative - they'd just allow me to keep shopping b/c I buy stuff, etc, ad nauseum"

I know for myself, I can have a short fuse and really want to snap back - even if it's not in PRSI - so I'll even find myself writing out a response and then deleting it because 1) there's no point as it's not an honest discussion and 2) it's not worth getting kicked for being the one who reacts - as they say, it's always the second person who gets caught, not the instigator.

I think PRSI is almost a form of masochism for some, sadism for others - whether that's healthy or not, well that's not for us to judge, is it?!?! I do think it's ridiculous for people to get bent out of shape about not being able to be as big an ****** as they would like on a political subforum on a tech site however - the level of self-importance in some (or many) of these cases is staggering... and yeah, talk about snowflakes and safe spaces - good grief!

Thanks for calling me a liar. Should be easy to see where I click, actually the shortcut that I use on my browser is still from the old site before it was re-done. forums.macrumors.com/search/?do=getnew&exclude=41

I would have clicked on the link if I had known there was a change to the rules. Had the reminders say rules have changed or something along the lines of a 3 strike rule.

It’s my guess too that we being creatures of habit, that if all the PRSI bans were removed that most would be reinstated eventually.

Like you I find myself deleting replies to PRSI. It’s not a place for me. Lol

Thanks, they'd rather call me a liar than to admit they were lazy in their efforts to refer people to rule changes and were hasty in banning people in PRSI.

Guess you are lucky that the mods / admins here are tolerant, patient, lenient, gracious and forgiving
Cause I would have just banned you from the whole site to be done with the mess :)

So for people like me who just click on the "new Post" URL would never see that. New Post and Front Page are the only two links I use in the forum.

What ever happened to taking some personal responsibility for understanding the rules you agree to follow? This whole whining argument about how you had no idea about the sticky at the top is extremely weak. It’s your responsibility to understand the rules, and MR has made them easily available. How much more do you want them to hold your hand?

I have not called you a liar. I provided a link to the forum announcement and you didn't read it.

Re-reading your comment, maybe I read it wrong. Sorry.

I knew the rules, they changed without warning. Would you accept a speeding ticket if you went down a road every day that was 55MPH and suddenly they changed it to 45 MPH but the new sign is posted a down the road before the location you got on the road?

Terrible analogy. The sign is posted for you to see and in the correct place, just open your eyes.

This is why we have issues, you instantly jumped to conclusions that someone called you a liar when there's not even a hint of such an action. You then started making unsubstantiated accusations. Its this behavior that makes forums caustic and causes more problems.

Had the reminders say rules have changed or something along the lines of a 3 strike rule.
The reminder were changed to more explicitly communicate that three strikes will have consequences. As for the rules, the administrators posted an announcement last year in the PRSI forum to apprise members of the rule change. Its your responsibility to ensure that you're aware of the rules and any changes.

Announcement: Some changes in the way the PRSI section is moderated

Has there been a history of me doing that? I assumed he was claiming that I was just saying I didn't read it.

Again, I NEVER go to the PRSI section. I click on new post, I don't seek a particular section of the forum. I just click on New Post and click on threads that look interesting.

I was aware of the rules...The rules changed and the rule change was put in a place where I don't visit.

Thanks for your input, but I am done following this thread. If anything at least I helped contribute to them updating the reminders template to warn people in the future.

To be fair, the amount of time I spent in PRSI I never saw or paid attention to one sticky shoved at the top of the page of a forum with threads moving 50 times a day.
