I need to get a 4k TV but I'll still get the Neo as I'll be upgrading my bedroom TV soon. I'm still on the fence about PSVR but if I can find a bundle with the Neo then I'm game. Glad to hear they will actually be producing 4k blu-ray now because I would hate to get a 4k PS4 and TV and never get to use it to its max....I'm not sure how Netflix 4k run.

Bless

I heard the rumours but thought no way but shows what I know, I can see what Sony is trying to do here by reducing the console cycles but the problem consoles have is they initially sell at a loss then make profit down the road from reduced manufacturing costs, peripherals, online costs and charges to game publishes.

Itching to see Microsoft's response.

The other issue will be that a lot of console buyers do not jump in until much later in the cycle when the console hardware is at its cheapest. Up to now, those late purchasers were guaranteed the same experience, the same tier of peformance. Now those people will be have to settle knowing they are purchasing the lesser version which might make them rethink jumping in to the hardware altogether.

The console cycle is forced to reduce from 7 years to around 5 years, because the PC is improving too fast (especially GPU).

However, IMO, Sony is in the right direction. They are now making the new rule of the game. They force the game manufacture must make a game that able to play on BOTH consoles (PS4 and PS4K). That means they can now go to the tick tock cycle.

On the new upgrade, they can again force the software provide must make a game that can support both PS5 and PS4K. So, even though the life cycle is reduced to 5, but since the game is support in both generation. In another point of view, it effectively extend the life cycle of a single console to 10 years (for those who cannot afford keep upgrading the hardware). This is a win win situation.

For someone who willing to pay and looking for better performance, buy the new stuff ever generation. Otherwise, buy every other generation. And no matter belongs which group, they can always play together on the same games.

It was not possible in the pass, but since the consoles now are PC base, as long as they keep the next console is just a "stronger PC" (compare to the last console), it should be very easy easy to make a game which can run on both platforms.

PS4 was released in November 2013. So that's 3 years not 5 ???

You're right because that's my train of thought, until it is clear what the new console release cycle are, I could see some holding out.
This will be confusing at first and we know gamers don't take to certain changes as Microsoft found out.

There is a lot of 4K content out there already in the likes of Netflix and Amazon is continuing to improve their library. I am not a DVD purchaser as I utilize my ATV for all my streaming needs and wish they would make an upgrade to their movie rentals and such as I am all digital.

I love my 75inch 4k Samsung as it is easily the best TV I have laid eyes on and excited for the future of gaming when they get there. Not so much movies right now.
