I'm from the UK, and I got this error that the order had expired.
There was an option to "buy" the phone again, however I already did a pre-approved credit agreement with Barclay Finance which I had signed, so. I thought it was proper to speak to Apple and get them to confirm if there was actually an issue or not.
I spoke to several people, including a manager who chimed the same thing and wouldn't resolve my issue, was on the phone an hour and half. (so I will paraphrase the conversion).
Basically they confirmed there was a glitch and that there was no way their end to resolve it, the pre-approval loan is against the original order so the only way to reactivate it or purchase the phone now is to go through the whole process and do the finance agreement again. (I asked them if it would be resolved in due course and they said no, it was non-reversible)
So unable to repair my order or amend it, I said can you cancel the pre-approval loan so that the finance company doesn't think I'm taking finance out twice, they told me that this wasn't the case and that I should just make the credit application tomorrow after launch (not before... unsure why they said this), and that the other loan would just fall off when it wasn't activated, but either way they where unable to cancel the agreement as there was nothing to cancel...
Spoke to Barclay Finance who seemed a bit shocked at Apple was unwilling to resolve this issue, and confirmed there was a search done on my account and if I was to re-order they would have seen it as a separate loan, with two searches on my credit file. They said as the retail it was their responsibility to rectify the issue instead of basically telling me it wasn't their problem. Apple should have notified them to cancel the loan prior to taking out a second one.
Barclay Finance removed the search from my file and cancelled the loan, and to point out here as far as they where concerned even though Apple said the order wasn't no longer valid the loan was still active and there was no confirmation of them cancelling it down even after I made the complaint, so this would confirm that it would have been a second loan agreement for the same phone.
Apple customer service was very poor and really didn't help me, in fact I think they broke some rules under FCA here in the uk because they are responsible for the loan agreement as they are the retailer, but my biggest worry and why I've hopped onto this site is make sure if you have taken out finance that your not applying for a second loan!
I had pre-ordered a iPhone 13 Pro Max 256GB, Apple will loose me as a customer over this, I was upgrading from my Xs Max, but as it just had a new screen and battery at Apple its like new... so It can serve me for more years now as Apple can't be trusted.
Let me be very clear, if the pre-approval thing was a cash purchase I would have seen it as a annoyance and bit crap, but when its a financial agreement, affecting peoples credit scores, this is bang out of order and Apple should have done more to rectify the issue.
I hope this helps others, I don't how it works in other countries, but that's my story from the UK side of things.
