I was looking forward to product announcements. Something exciting. If Apple fails in other aspects, it excels at marketing, and these presentations are usually their “cash in the bank” successes.

The fact it isn’t going to be live streamed means there’s nothing to see. May as well move along folks.
Didn't Apple announce the 5th gen iPad, red iPhone, and several other products by press release at this time last year? Certainly seems like an event like this could still have some products, alongside a press release after the event.

If there are any product announcements like "cheaper iPad" they will probably be sold for education only. Like the cheap iMac was.

It will be interesting to see if the Store goes down before the event. That would give a good indication new devices are incoming and could be preordered that day.

Wonder if it is going to be like Microsoft's education discount. You have to have a valid .edu email address to qualify.

I’m actually happy about that, because I’ll be busy during the day - I can see it on AppleTV that evening

People acting like it wwdc its gonna be an event just for teachers and cheap stuff nothing exciting

Not for you maybe but there are people who will like to see what they do in the education space. Just because your not interested doesn’t mean others are not.

tbh I expect Apple has much better control, streaming and mixing capabilities in Moscone West, Steve Jobs theater, town hall etc. It just might not be worth it to try and pull off a live stream.
This probably factored into their decision - no point in lugging all their equipment there and paying the team to setup all the live streaming stuff when it isn’t all that important to most people to begin with.

Further proof that this isn’t a general spring event and any hardware shown off will be specific to education.

Meh, I wasn’t expecting much. Cheaper iPad with Pencil support, focus on iBooks, iOS 11.3 launch and AirPower launch info. That’s probably it.

I think some are expecting way to much of this as a hardware event. Not everything has to be the primary focus surrounding an iPhone, Mac or iPad. And I Also think having hardware during an educational event could be a potential distraction away from the true reason for this event being education. If any hardware does launch, its an Apple Pencil and iPad.

Must be a dud they're trying to dump on the education market if they're hiding it.

Cheap stuff is exciting to me. I'm running my wife's old iPad 3. If they have a decent spec iPad for $260, particularly if it has Pencil support, I'll be all over it that day.

So I guess no hardware products at all?
Announcing new stuff without stream seems unlikely.

They often release new stuff, if only updates, with no streamed announcements.
This would be a good time to announce new things along that line, stuff that's nice to talk about but doesn't warrant a whole event (with or without a few other things). Apple Pencil 2 comes to mind, or a mid-sized iPad, things worth mentioning in an educational context but not particularly exciting on their own.

While Apple often offers a live stream for its special events, the company has confirmed there will be no live stream for the March 27 education-focused event set to take place at Lane Tech High School in Chicago.

It is located at Lane Tech High School. An actual, functioning school. For most of Apple major dog and pony shows the logistics supports tech roll out starts day(s) in advance. Can Apple even clog up the school's normal logistics for multiple days?

I suspect they are going to be able to set up (half day) , record this with multiple cameras, do some quick cuts/clean up, and then take the refined recording back to a broadcasting upload location later. [ and also clean up their set-up before next school day. ]

Won't be surprised either when the live stream bloggers who show-up swamp the Wifi and/or local LTE towers with a/v upload overhead. Yet another reason why Apple and the bloggers shouldn't try to complete over the relatively limited Internet "pipe" coming out of Lane Tech ( that is relative to the normal places Apple broadcasts from. Not saying Lane area is backwater, but also not provisioned for that. Lots of data pumped to phones/chromebooks/etc not from ). More normal (wide spread) broadband is asymmetrical ( much more down than up ). If you put too many people who want large "up" in one spot and have a problem.

What would make sense would be to bring back "iBook". And dump name iBooks from the ebook solution.
iBook --> perhaps iOS book laptop. .... hence iBook.
iBooks ---> Apple Books ( or just commonly Books)
iBooks Author ---> Apple Books Author ( or just commonly Books Author)

I don't think the utility is just solely going to be education. A primary target but .....
