If my band doesn't fit I can just buy another one from Apple for £49 , or is that a silly idea ??

Sending the while thing back with the long delays for the watch is utter madness

I'm sorry but only a moron would order a watch with a band that you cannot adjust. Humans gain and loose weight all the time and of course, the watch band needs to be adjusted. That's why 99.99% of watches have adjustable bands since their invention. Apple trying to reinvent the wheel is just messing things up. I always order my Apple Watches with the cheaper band, which is usually the sport band then if I want a different band, I would go to the Apple Store or order online when available.

There are complaints about Apple's return policy for the Apple Watch bands on Twitter and on a long discussion of the Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop bands on the MacRumors forums. Apple Watch models that are not fitting properly must be returned in full, and Apple's online support staff has been offering no alternative.
As usual, this year, I ordered a new watch as soon as available. This year there is a trade-in option also. Since the family is now pretty much saturated, I thought "why not?". It turns out that this ridiculous inflexibility does not just apply to solo bands ... . When the details emerged, it turns out that I would have had to send off my existing watch for trade-in almost 2 weeks ahead of the scheduled delivery date for my new watch. Sorry, say the guys at the Apple Store online, impossible to change the deadline of the return date. I pointed out that if I could do without a watch for more than a week I could probably make do with no watch forever. Shall we cancel your trade-in? Yes, and the purchase of the watch, And the one for my wife. It will be probably December or later before the availability of new watches comes into line with the timing of the trade-in despatch. Other than the blood oxygen, which is of passing interest, no real reason to replace our watches this year. And now that I have got used to the idea of not having the new one as soon as it is available, I am going to give some thought to doing the same with the phone. The battery is still fine, and honestly it does everything I need for the moment. Maybe no new iPhone this year for the first time since there were iPhones!

I dunno what I find more a joke. This ridiculous process or the fact that the already overpriced sports band at £50 are now £100 for a slight variant on a similar material.

My advice for anyone who wants one is wait until there's a third party option. A year ago, I got a sport band knock-off for $5 (shipping included) and still to this day you can't notice the difference when you put it side-by-side with my wife's official Apple sports band.

I'm going to do the same with the new leather bands -- give it 3-4 months for the best copies to come out, then check reviews and get one at a fraction of the price.

I can't imagine buying a watch (Apple Watch or any other brand) with a nonadjustable band.
IMO the Sport Band still looks like the best standard band for the AW.

Apple is basically saying. “Keep the band and buy another one. At your cost.” That will make them money. they know people are willing to not inconvenience themselves and not send everything back.

Last year I was able to swap out my band (bought with my S5 watch) in person at an Apple store with no issue. I believe that they had to process it as a return of the entire watch, but in reality, the watch never left my hand; they just took the old band and gave me the new one.

Same for iWatch 6: I was able to swap a band at the store. Technically they processed a return and repurchase of the same watch (no credit card needed).

I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the price of those bands. You could go to Etsy and get something truly custom and support a local artisan, and still come away with more change in your pocket.

Look, I'll make it easy for you people:

It's Sony's fault 100%. They are the creator, developer and distributer of the Playstation 5 and are responsible for the retailers preorders. Had this been an Apple product and Apple had only a small hand in the botched up preorders MR would blame Apple for everything. The responses about something minuscule such as the Apple Watch band prove that right here.
Why am I not surprised you would defend Sony?
I’m not defending anyone LOL
Do your research and get your facts straight. Many retailers semi-illegally do such things what Walmart did: starting pre-orders too early in order to get customers by falsely promising them the launch day delivery. They’ve done the same with the iPhone before. It’s called competition. They all try to grab the customer first.

Wow. Glad I saw this. Going to order a Watch 6 in a day or two and I was going to go with a Solo Loop for snug because I want to use the O2 sensor. But ehhh, I'll sick with the old reliable Sport Band and go for the Loop later separately if I don't get readings overnight. I don't want to be stuck waiting another month on it.

Simple. Sell band on eBay, offer up, FB Market, etc. Buy new band. I bought a sport loop band and love it! I thought it was too tight at first but getting the hang of it now. However... the bands should just be sold separate to avoid this. It’s obvious they are setup this way with the new packaging. Probably some backend system that needs to be updated to support this.

Not even sure how to respond to this!!! 🤨

I wonder why they couldn't come up with a measurement process using the 3D photo/scanner in the phone, combined with a VR try-on.
Apple really dropped the ball, with a print & cutout? Who approved this?
