4.86GB – wow. That will take a while. Made backups, backups of backups and some backups just in case. NOT installing on my main computer. Brace yourselves – Siri is coming.

What are the numbers?

I know they've always done this, but iOS 10 beta 2 and PB have the exact same build number
That's iOS, though. The OSX BP and DP's are usually a digit and letter off from each other because unlike iOS betas, they aren't identical.

Installing this on my 2011 iMac internal drive. I have a Thunderbolt SSD as my main drive, so no worries. Let the fun begin!

I am totally the beta type of person however considering generally the first three releases of a new OSX, and the first one or two versions of iOS from Apple feel like alpha versions lately I think I will hold off. They don't get things ironed out until x.x.3 for iOS and x.x.4 for OSX it feels like (and unfortunately sometimes they never get that high before they come out with the next version and create more bugs!)

I'm about to install on a new mac mini, literally bought for beta testing... so yeah, this is a newbie question, but I'm confident to experiment ;) I just want to know, *should* I back up before installing? I have no personal stuff on there have not installed, and do not rely on any Mac programs.

I guess the short version is: am I safe and able to just restore to factory settings (via online download) if it goes wrong? OR must I have a time machine backup if I need to roll back to El Cap...?

I have the first beta on a separate partition (dual boot with El Cap 10.11.5). How would I update for Sierra Beta 1 to Beta 2? Sign in with my iCloud and check the Store or do I have download the beta utility?

It's as easy as booting into OS X Recovery by holding Command R at startup and wiping the disk you installed the beta on. Then using the tools inside of Recovery to restore El Capitan to the same disk.

You just go to the Mac App Store on the partition you want to update and it will show up under updates.

Right everyone who has tested the Developer Beta, are there any publications of known issues that we the public can check before we download?

Or dare I ask you if its generally stable?

All I care about is my iCloud not being wiped.

My progress bar is stuck at around 90%. Anyone the same?

Edit: fixed. just did a hard reboot and went right into the Sierra login screen.

I would have loved to have seen a better, more efficient way to navigate files, manage windows, spaces, and so on.

Me too. I'd love to see column view automatically optimize its size so I can see all of a file name without having to click or drag it open. Some auto shrink function if there's a ton of left over column space would be great also.

Safari is having some trouble...

Okay so I've just noticed iMessage for Mac doesn't support all the new iOS 10 effects and bubble styles. Is that coming later or will Mac not support that from release, which sounds pretty dumb.

Installing on my main computer now. I have two major work deadlines this week, so if something breaks I'm gonna freak out!! Don't let me down, Apple.

I think you just gave yourself a good enough reason not to install a beta as your main OS.

PB is 16A238m
DP2 is 16A239j

There are actually 2 builds of PB1: 16A238k and 16A238m

Most people will be getting the m one but some people who downloaded it earlier got the k.

Curious to know why apple replaced the k build with the m one so quickly.

You sure it's not machine type based? I downloaded the second it dropped. I was refreshing beta.apple.com

Safari keeps force quitting on launch. I get into it on about the 4th attempt. Oops.
