pogiboi is right: clearly schematics of two different device housings, the chubby ”square” one and a circular one. Nobody else sees that?

You win the internet! 9to5 Mac said that there will be 8 SKU's. It makes sense there would be two shapes.

Jony Ive will probably make the iWatch into a triangle... in the video he'll talk about visiting the great pyramids and explain that to reinvent the watch, Apple had to explore the beautiful simplicity of basic geometry

I've been to the pyramids (Giza, not Vegas) and believe me, they are work seeing! Put it on your bucket list!

But, a pyramid on my wrist sounds a little dangerous though....

interesting... a bit reassuring actually, as i don't want a square watch/nano on a wrist from apple tomorrow. i'm not at all sure i'm interested in an iwatch, but i would be excited if the form and function were new and exciting; a little left field is what they need to do, not competing with switzerland.. imho.

but... apple knows this. cause, they're apple.

Interesting stuff. Would be a weird thing to come up with randomly. Maybe he's right.

None of the renderings include dimensions or scale. The housing may be consideraby more compact than some people anticipate.

Further, the housing renderings don't suggest anything about the proportions, configuration, or materials used by a strap/band. And it is unclear from the renderings how the strap/band are fixed to the housing. Such details have a significant influence on the overall visual appeal of wristwear.

Even IF these renderings are legitimate, I don't think there is enough information conveyed to deduce actual size and fit.

FWIW, Broadcom hasn't published physical dimensions for a BCM59350 component. However, based on competing solutions it intends to replace, that component's dimensions could be on the order of 6 x 6 x 0.75 mm. Too much we just don't know about processes and geometries of all the components that will be incorporated into a wearable iDevice. I expect tomorrow -- and whatever eventual teardown is done -- will reveal at least a few impressive feats of engineering. :)

Just read posts above about the x207 button pusher/tester. That would explain a lot, too.

lmao... all that hype for nothing.

You're right. Based on the info we have and the smidgen of leaks this looks set to be a disappointment. I'd like to think this is set up for a major launch for an incredible product but so far from the iPhone 6 design leaks I don't have a great deal of faith in what's coming out since SJ.

Hoping to be wrong on every level.

Problem is you have just listed all the Braun watches that didn't sell.

The most successful and iconic Braun watch is this one...

Image

I have no idea of the Braun watch sales figures, but I've always been drawn to their digital watches, because I'm not usually a fan of relatively cheap, quartz movements. Either way, that watch is only 38mm in diameter, so, if we see a circle case that size, I'd be game for it.

What I don't want is a 46mm circle monstrosity. I'm 6'1", and I've been wishing that my Omega Aqua Terra was the 36mm model, rather than the 39mm model that I own. Huge watch faces are only popular in super-low depth dive watches and jewelry kiosks at the mall. The 36mm-40mm range is still the classic men's watch size.

It would wild if Apple had Cartier make the case for a high end version of the watch, since the square "Tank" is their most iconic model. That could be a way to break into the high end:

I still have a sneaking hunch that the iWatch is going to be something along the lines/form factor of the Nike Fuel Band that Mr. Cook seems to love so much. Also, I wonder if Nike decided to bail on watches at Mr. Cook's advise on their board, knowing that whateverthehell apple is doing, would eat Nike's lunch for that type of device.

Just wondering.

So the iWatch is gonna be a thick square block like every other smart watch on the market for the last 3 years...

A circle might be more pleasing visually, but for everything else it is largely a poorer solution than using a rectangular shape. If you are going to use the device for more than showing a nice watch face, that is.

A key point is of course that you can fit way more electronics (and battery capacity!) in a square format than in a circle of the same size (height/width). Sometime in the future this might not be an issue, but right now - and the next few years - every millimetre of space is valuable.

If Apple does this...but way better...it will be a game changer.

Now that's a luxurious looking tech item that I'd fork out for. It looks exactly like what if hope for from Apple as the iWatch. Anything short really wouldn't be acceptable. And as Rogifan pointed out, fashion media turning out for this, yes that I understand.

Fashion media turning out for the purported leaks implied as being the iwatch doesn't make any sense at all.

Nice find by the way.

Is there some similarity in these circle-within-square designs to Marc Newson's 2008 ikepod watch?

Interesting.

I just read a leak which claimed that production of the iWatch had started, and that it would be rectangular with a raised curved section above the watch part.

Sounds a bit like a description of the convex lens in that photo, but could refer to something else.

What if the sensor on the bottom is actually a Touch ID type sensor that can map the veins in your wrist, therefore, whenever you are wearing the watch, you are automatically authenticated for NFC payments. That would be innovation!

An interesting thing: Nike largely dug their own grave by not offering Android support for the Fuel Band until early this summer. That is close to 2,5 years on a single platform - I will never understand how they dared take that risk, it would have sold by the boatloads if they opened up a year or more earlier than they did. But they for some reason waited until there were tons of similar devices.

This is exactly what I was saying earlier. They are going for a classic watch design, albeit updated in an Apple way, with all the hitech features. You can even see the circle placed above the rectangle in the second image. You can see the rectangle lines coming away from the sphere. It won't look like a Rolex, but they are using the the classic form of a submariner. Or so it looks from those images.

Take this as an example. The first image is the rectangle, the second is the sphere ontop. I think this will be the form factor, albeit updated in an Apple way.

these rumours are killing me. Ugly phone and square watch... Atleast give us an updated Apple TV with an App Store.

Then why are you still here? Only to show your exquisite taste which of course is obviously no taste at all?
