So based on Jony's love for the Ikepod and Marc Newson joining Apple and seeing these leaks, it might look very similar to the Ikepod Manatee:

An interesting thing: Nike largely dug their own grave by not offering Android support for the Fuel Band until early this summer. That is close to 2,5 years on a single platform - I will never understand how they dared take that risk, it would have sold by the boatloads if they opened up a year or more earlier than they did. But they for some reason waited until there were tons of similar devices.

Perhaps the Fuelband was nothing more than a stealth concept development program for the iWatch? That might partly explain why it was iOS only... pure conjecture.

Maybe it'll take a cue from this concept smartwatch (ignore the jewelry part):

And have a regular watch movement at the top... that can run for years on its own... with the smart display below it.

That way you still have a watch even if the smart battery dies, plus you can always see the time.

To me, that would be the best of both worlds.

This is exactly what I was saying earlier. They are going for a classic watch design, albeit updated in an Apple way, with all the hitech features. You can even see the circle placed above the rectangle in the second image. You can see the rectangle lines coming away from the sphere. It won't look like a Rolex, but they are using the the classic form of a submariner. Or so it looks from those images.

Take this as an example. The first image is the rectangle, the second is the sphere ontop. I think this will be the form factor, albeit updated in an Apple way. Image
Keep dreaming, this is not something from Johnny Ive's mind.

Have you seen the Martian smartwatches?

I don't know why everyone is so in love with the Moto 360 being circular.

Besides the actual watchfaces, the whole UI is just a square with cut off corners. Readability for text is probably worse, and screen area isn't as much as it can be with an equally wide square. It also shows compromise in engineering and design with a black strip at the bottom.

The Moto 360 being circular also doesn't look different enough from traditional watches from a third person. It only will if you're close to it. Apple would want iWatches to be easily recognized.

I think Apple will still impress us with the iWatch by making it completely metal, and using a magnetic band that is easily adjusted without the traditional pin-in-hole and latch that all these current smartwatches and regular watches have.

There will be an insane amount of small touches in its design that make it better than anything.

That's pretty ugly, IMHO. Watch designs are so subjective. Apple will need to hit this one out of the park.

Good thing is that Tim Cook shows they know this - on D11 he makes the point they need to wow people to get a wearable that would be accepted.

it's weird to be less that 20 hours away from a product launchh and have no true clue as to what it looks like. we know what the iphone looks like but close to nothing on the watch.

Hearing about flexible screen I was hoping for a seamless wide band with embedded screen, that'd be really cool. These renders disappoint me.

If they can do something 25% this beautiful, they can call themselves successful.

Likely not going on sale until 2015 so not in production so no leaks > exactly how apple kept the new Mac Pro secret until the announcement. Either way, a big day for apple and Cook tom.

So the iWatch is gonna be a thick square block like every other smart watch on the market for the last 3 years...

...exept the Moto 360, that one actually looks really nice.

Image

It looks good in renders, but In pictures looks too large. 46mm is too much when most watches are around 40mm. I think that if the iWatch is real it may be large too.

most sport luxury watches are between 41-44. 46 is not excepcional but is big, although it could be trendy easily

I think the overall fault of the moto 360 is that it's not useful basically, and in terms of beauty they never will be able to compete with mechanical watches so there is nothing left

This just goes to show how difficult it is to design a watch that everyone will like. In many mid-to-high end watch circles, Hublot, Panerai and the Royal Oak Offshore are three of the cheesiest, giant choices out there. I wouldn't wear one if it was given to me. The regular Royal Oak is a classic, though.

Either way, no reason to make digital smart watches look like classic analogue watches. That big Moto 360 looks ridiculous, and, while a smaller, circular design might look ok, a rectangle makes more sense, functionally.

Most sport luxury watches that size are overbuilt for deep sea diving. A gentleman's watch is still usually in the 36mm-40mm range.

With all these sheer volume of leaks, Apple really has an issue trying keep all this under-wrap..don't they.

They need to act like bouncers checking everyone.
