i just tried mine again (tried this last week and it didn't work).

sent 2 e-mails. 5 min apart. push with fetch set at an hour.
both e-mails showed up about 1-2min after i sent the e-mails.

the only thing different from last week is that i added my yahoo account this week to the phone. so maybe it's related to those with push accounts on their phone?

i have no mobileme nor exchange account.

I highly doubt it. It would either have to be IMAP-idle, constant IMAP connections being made, or a server change. I'm going with one of the first two, but IMAP-idle would've been noticed long before now in 2.1.

Now if anyone is having this happen in 2.0.x please share.

Okay, if the iPhone is checking for mail CONSTANTLY, wouldn't you hear the "no-new-mail" sound every minute or so?

I think it really is pushing somehow.

I just tried it after reading this thread. Once I had the disabled POP on my gMail account, it started working. This is over 3G and I have no other e-mail accounts on the phone. iPhone set to Fetch every hour. Received the e-mails within 2-3 minutes of the send.

Which I am. Just got a message in now. And my battery is draining fast.

Because the battery is draining so fast with this I'm thinking it's a bug.

i misread...but you would only hear the no new mail sound if mail was open. im getting mail in the background.

Keep mail open then and see if you get the no-new-mail sound every few minutes. If it is actually constantly checking, that would give it away.

Works for me as well. Default GMail settings for iPhone, the mails are of my personal domain hosted by Google. "New Data" - "Push", fetching every hour, new emails are coming in 2 - 3 minutes.

GOOGLE PUSH?!? HURRRRAAAA!!! :)

Working for me. Just tried sending 2 messages from my Notes account at work, 4 minutes apart. The first message showed up less than a minute later on my iPhone and the second took about 3-4 minutes.
