PwnageTool 4.2 released

My Carrier?

I don't know whats wrong with my phone but after doing this it won't show my carrier. I keep restarting and respringing but no luck. Do I hit activate phone even if it is activated?

You needed to uncheck the Activation option when building your IPSW if you're on AT&T. Just rebuild and do the process over again.

I've done this myself a time or two :)
 
quick question, i've got an at&t sim I used when I had service but cancelled it so now I have no service. do I Activate the phone or deselect it? since I wanna unlock it using this method for use on T-Mobile now. Thanks

I'm on 4.1, 2.10.04 bb. Hope I don't gotta update my bb just to be safe.

You can activate officially with the old inactive AT&T sim so uncheck the "activate Phone" option.
BUT, you will not be able to unlock it with that baseband version.
You needed to be on baseband 01.59.00 to use ultrasnow, all you can do is wait for an updated version in the future.
 
I read it wrong, my bad. This is just a JB (jailbreak) then and no unlock really unless it's for 01.59.00 as you are saying. Ah another useless jb for me, tired of waiting for the Unlock and the at&t data plans for Go (pre-paid) suck huh? 100mb or $20 monthly

I'm currently jailbroken using greenpoison and haven't had any issues. Wondering if it's worth going through the entire process again with pwnagetool, and if it would benefit me.

I honestly hate the green poison logo, so im doing it over again haha

on the side note, i dont know if this has happened to anyone else, but when I facetime, after facetiming, the sound on my iphone gets muffled, its only happened twice, but it got annoying

As long as you have an unlockable bb, you install ultrasnow. If you don't know what this is, start reading the forums and learn to harness the power of google.

ETA: getting back to topic, I've been reading about battery issues with the green poison jb. I'm going to hold off for now, until I see evidence to indicate otherwise.

I got GP 4.2.1 JB saturday and haven't see any problem with battery, for instance, after my 8h night sleep, the battery indicates only 1% lost.

Don't fix something that's not broken. That's when problems start coming up.
 
Ugh, this sounds MIGHTY tempting... but I got so many apps installed and customized.... xD

I'm aware that there are some "backup" programs for jailbroken stuff, but are they reliable? I have heard horror stories where the restore process is borked.

I did the transition from 4.1 to 4.2.1, not that I had to but b/ I had time to spare, given that 4.3 lurks just around the corner I would recommend waiting for that. Stefan Esser has an untethered exploit for the latest 4.3 beta so I have good hopes

As w/ every migration there are risks but PKGBackup has always worked really well for me and I have heard of very few who followed the process and failed completely.

APTBackup (crap tool) borked out on me once during the 3.x era and although it might not be intentional it sometimes does feel good to start from scratch =)

You could just delete the file called animate in the /usr/bin directory and save yourself a lot of effort.
 
used this last night... everything went smoothly because i couldn't restore to 4.1 for some reason... back to a nice clean slate :D
 
Question.....I read this installs a custom built firmware via iTunes. Once it's installed does Cydia appear automatically? Or is there another step after restoring with this custom firmware?

Also now that this is out, does this probably mean that redsn0w for windows is right around the corner??
 
A Little confused here....

If this is just a pwnage tool, how can I use it to fix my ibooks issue with my JB iPad?
