Will this allow for those to who are ALREADY ON 4.1 (no SHSH saved, no Baseband preserved, etc) on iPhone 4 to lead to UNLOCK?!

I am getting worried about how some people are saying how if one has not already preserved baseband they are screwed for unlock? :(

Things have started to look better for a potential unlock as of today. Sherif Hashim has been on twitter to indicate that he has made progress with an exploit of the baseband. It looks like its more definite for the 3g and 3gs and possible for the IP4. This is a very early stage but good news. However, do not expect anything until at least 4.2 is released in November.

I prefer pwnagetool, so great that's coming out.
Me too, it's been REALLY easy to use over the years. but alas, I am impatient and goin to use TinyUmbrella to upgrade to keep baseband on my iPhone4 and then try out greenpois0n. :)

Unfortunately no, there is no unlock for the baseband included with 4.1. Since an exploit needs to be found and then packed up, it's uncertain how long it will take to find. It could take a month, it could be 3mo it could be never.

Is there no way to use Tiny Umbrella to preserve the baseband to upgrade to 4.1 then use PwnageTool to jailbreak?

I'm a Mac guy too but I'm guess I'm lucky in a way because I keep a Windows machine around for work. I went ahead and updated to 4.1 while preserving my baseband using tinyumbrella (did that on my Mac), and then I used greenpois0n on my Windows machine. To be honest with you, the hardest part was getting the timing right to get my phone into dfu mode. It took me like 3 or 4 times until I finally got it right, but once I did it was easy.

Limera1n experience

My iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1 and iPad 3G+WiFi wit iOS 3.2.1 were purchased in mid-August in Pennsylvania. So, I had to wait until Limera1n and Greenpois0n were released to even think about jailbreaking these devices.

First, I user TinyUmbrella to save the SHSH blobs from the iPhone with iOS 4.1 and the iPad with iOS 3.2.2.

Since both Limera1n and Greenpois0n were initially for Windows only and since I am a Mac user, I decided to use Windows 7 running off of Parallel Desktop. Greenpois0n, for some reason, did not work with the iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1 presenting a message that jailbreak failed. I got the same error message when I tried to jailbreak the iPad with iOS 3.2.2.

So, I turned to Limera1n. It worked beautifully with both iPhone 4 and iPad. And, I am glad that the Mac version of Limera1n is now out for Mac users without virtualization.

Since iOS 4.2 is just around the corner and since I am interested in iOS 4.2 on my iPad, I am not going to get too excited about the iOS 4.1 on both of my devices. It's great that they are now jailbroken. But, it would be even better if I can unlock my iPhone with iOS 4.2.
