I sold my tmobile 5 16gb for $375 and bought a 5S new in box from CL for $600 - everything checked out at the Tmobile store so I ended up only spending $225 to upgrade to a:

Newer phone with newer battery (my 5 was starting to die a little quick)
Better camera
Fingerprint sensor for convenience
Faster (and hopefully even more so after the apps are updated to 64bit
New color

So to me it was worth it. Now if I had to spend any more than that I might not have upgraded. The 5 is still an insanely nice and good phone.

How did you manage to get a NIB 5S off Craiglist for less than full price???

Moving from a 16gb 5 to a 32gb 5s, otherwise I wouldn't bother. I blame Spotify Premium, takes too much space out of the 16gb.

Just pure luck I guess? I was wondering why he didn't just return it too but I didn't ask too many questions since he was the legitimate owner. Perhaps he got one as a work phone or something for free and was just trying to make money and keep his old phone? Thats the only conclusion I could make.

Surely it was a Space Grey but still...that's unbelievable.

AT&T moves up upgrades for people who pay more than a certain amount (I think its $100). So every year I easily sell my previous model for ~$400, so in the end I make a profit every time, even after buying the new model. The 5S is ridiculously fast in comparison to my 5 and im loving it.

Would be wanting more than £300 for my 32Gb. There's still 3 month warranty left to.

Ordered a Gold 32Gb, who knows when will come though tbh, still time to change my mind...

I have an iPad 2, now got iOS7 on and tbh don't see that I'll need a iPad 5 as does everything I need really, whereas my iPhone I use a lot lot more, and better to sell now for better resale on my 5 I think?

I can share my experience.

I have a 5 and waited for a 5s on launch day. I got the phone, was happy with it, and proceeded to use it for a few days.

I took the 5s back yesterday. It's just not worth it if you have a 5. And I buy the new phone every year, have to have the latest tech, blah blah blah. Seriously, there is no speed difference between a 5 and 5s. The fingerprint scanner was cool for a few hours, until it got really annoying when it would say try again 4 times in a row. I found myself cleaning off the scanner to make sure it would take my print the next time.

I had a passcode set for every 1 hour, and because I use my phone a lot would only enter it every 8 hours or so. With the FP scanner, you must enter the code or scan every singe time you unlock the phone. Theres no option to wait any length of time before requiring the core. Every notification, every text, takes a scan.

The screen on my 5s was more yellow than the 5.

All these added up to not worth it. Everyone says that it'll take a year before 4 bit really becomes useful, and the 5s is super future proof because of that. Wee next years 6 will be even more future proof. Ill wait.

actually it was the gold.

lol jk yeah space gray. I was actually really set on the space gray because I've had a white 4S and a white 5 but I kinda miss having the white color combo so I'm trying to get a 32 or 64gb gold now. I don't mind waiting a bit til the craziness goes down haha

Oh your making me think about this now...

I don't need the upgrade and reason I held off for...a few days ;) I tried to think that I didn't need it, think of the cost, what I would be getting etc. the FP scanner is (was) a big upgrade, I thought, I know what you mean, I have mine set to a time before I have to enter code again, but surely the point of FP is that it's that easy to use, it's locked all the time?

Does it not unlock often, this is a worry, from what I've read it seems to be really reliable. I suppose I can have it "on test" for a few days to see what it's like day to day as well. I wish I could hold off I do, I totally agree there's not much to use its power now, it may future proof it, but I'll be getting the 6 anyway, so irrelevant in that way.

Way I'm justifying at moment is, I get better resale selling my 5 now, get new warranty on the 5S, get a few added features, and I've worked some OT at work so the cost is coming from that.

I played with the 5s and I really like it. Pretty snappy and the camera does, in my opinion, produce slightly better photos. The scanner is cool - my own preference is I don't like fingerprint scanners so it makes it really easy to stick with the 5.

I'm holding off on the 5S but if you want the latest tech you gotta pony up for it.

So if you have a 5 now, you could sell your 5, had some money saved, would you buy a 5S?

I was hoping for more on the 5S I really was. I understand its the 'S' increment, it would always be same form factor, but apart from the added scanner, flash, obvious speed increment, it's all software isn't it? 5 is getting iOS7 etc.

I've been saving so do have a little "spare" if ever there is anything like that!!?! So I'd sell my 5, use the saving which before anyone says was allocated for this anyway, and get a 5S.

My thinking is that by next Sep I really think the 6 will be a big upgrade, bigger screen pretty please ;) and if I wait till then obviously my 5 will be worth a lot less.

So any 5'ers out there what are you doing? Is t really worth it? Also I'm a little huffed that Apple has again upped the prices, I bought the 32Gb but that's now up to £650 for a phone SIM free - wow!!

Thanks

I admit I did not read any of the responses to you, but ask yourself this before spending the money?

What new does it give you, and is whatever is new useful to you?
I can't really think of anything all that interesting that would move someone with a 5 to upgrade.

Good luck on your decision.

Put my sensible head on, it's a no, I could spend £350 on something else.

Geeky head on and I like the idea of the scanner, as I use a pin code now and it's boring keep typing it in! Also the slo-mo camera looks great.

Then I think I have a 5 and it is nigh on not much upgrade...but I've worked some OT at work, so I've ordered a Gold 32Gb so then at least it's a change of colour to ;) also I'm thinking of the warranty. Sell mine someone can still add AppleCare whereas I will get another year warranty with the 5s.

Not sure when it will eventually come though....

Had dispatch, should be here this week, 32Gb Gold. Still not 100% if keeping though, but get 14 days cooling off.

Still not sure there's enough extra compared to my 5, although like the look of the Slo-Mo camera....

It came. It's nice colour impressed. It's certainly not bling. Glad I chose gold for a change.

The phone is the same as my 5 really with iOS 7 on. Loving TouchID though, works really well and very convenient.

Camera slo-mo is nice to. Haven't tried low light yet. Speed difference can't say.

Was it worth it? Haven't sold my 5 yet so can't say how much the upgrade has cost me yet!

No because I think it's stupid to buy a new phone every year, or expect OEMs to radically improve phones every year.

Well all in with selling and P+P etc the upgrade from my 5 to 5s was £256. Was it worth it? Probably not but had some saved, and the below sort of seals it for me...

Means I get a new warranty on 5s, my older 5 had 2 months left, get the additions on the 5s; TouchID, slo-mo, better camera. Better resale value for the 5s when the 6 comes out..
