Ooo wonder if this will fix the issue I've been having for years where certain shows will just got black, only once at first, but then it just keeps going black more and more (same video, nothing has changed) until the TV just goes completely black and I have to reboot it.

It's not my cables, it's either my TV or Apple TV but I'm leaning towards ATV because the built in TV apps don't have this issue.
Curious what tv do you have? My Lg cx did this until i turned that “feature” off.

That's what John S was discussing in a recent episode of ATP. He will be glad to hear he will be able to use his new 2022 Apple TV on the next TV he buys in 10 years!

I am amused with the idea that a couple seconds' worth of blackness when switching videos is a problem that we as a society decided it's worth it to solve. Ever onward!
Clearly you've never had to deal with it.

Black screens, pauses, video modes change. Each one takes an obnoxiously long period of time. If you have multiple ads, you could end up with your TV "going out of sync" half a dozen times before the video you want to watch even plays. Picture cuts out, audio cuts out, etc. The only thing worse than an annoying ad is an annoying ad that appears to be broken.

It's jarring and distracting, and makes it seem like something is wrong with your TV. Simply disabling content matching makes the issue go away, so it's easy to tell what the problem is.

lol, agree. although, the blackout on a home theater projector can be worse than a TV. Sometimes I have to remember to hit pause at the start to let things sync up. Otherwise, I'll miss that fancy Marvel logo animation.

Wow, I had no idea that this was the source of the annoying blackouts when Youtube is switching between ads and the video. Ugh! So the fix will only be available on the latest gen Apple TV? Arrrgh... Might have to upgrade just for this.

It is annoying and gets in the way of enjoying the content you paid for all this hardware (and services) to watch. No reason an effort shouldn't be put into it.

No its not. QMS (VRR) is a feature of HDMI 2.1a which is not implemented in any TV yet according to this article.
HDMI VRR is something completely different.
Wonder if they will can firmware update TVs for this

As long no tv support it… why?
QMS is a subset of VRR (which is supported by many TVs).

I think it is TBD on if the QMS implementation on the ATV utilizes enough VRR functionality to reduce the blanked frames with switching frame rates. (is that enough acronyms??)

I am pretty sure my TV supports it
QMS needs VRR to work. But HDMI VRR support does NOT mean it will support QMS as well.
Check the list above!

Hopefully TVs will get patched to support this (like my S95B).

Also if I got this and bitstreaming for lossless audio I would happily swap out my Shield for an Apple TV

It IS a problem when play short videos. It is not only black out, I believe it also wear out TV quicker when do this a hundred times a day.

At least it's only temp. The issue I'm having lately is a black screen in the middle of a movie, and I have to eventually hit back and resume. Been using the FireTV in place of ATV since, and it hasn't happened once.
