Has everyone forgotten Apple's official solutions?

The Belkin Lightning Audio + Charge Rockstar combined with the Apple Lightning to Headphone Jack Adapter. Somewhat clunky but will work perfectly and no need to worry about future updates.

Alternatively, using a Lightning dock as @Lennyvalentin suggested.

even that is getting mixed reviews but i'm afraid of a lot of those cheap amazon and eBay solutions and may just go with the dock if i find it an issue, but i think i'm just going to be picking up a decent pair of over the ear bluetooth phones

It's somewhat sad that something that is as fairly straightforward as that doesn't really have a decent and reliable (and hopefully affordable) solution. Apple should really have such an adapter of their own for sale.

I've been finding it really strange that they don't. If they had one of their own, I'm sure they would sell more 7's and 7+'s because I know there are people hesitant of buying one because the lack of charging and listening to music. My fiancé NEEDS one as he uses Square and uses GPS and what not for his taxi company.

So, has anyone else tried any and have some feedback that they can share as to how well they work and which ones might be worth it?

Wouldn't that be Apple saying, "mmm, we may have got a bit too courageous! Here's a thing we made to do the stuff we said nobody wanted to do."

Well, in a sense, by that logic they already essentially said that with the included 3.5mm to Lightning adapter.

The one I bought on eBay works great and is still working for me after 2 software updates. Some say it may stop working at any time but doesn't really matter to me. It might work all throughout iOS 10... who knows. Didn't cost much and the quality is great.

Thanks for the feedback. I looked through your earlier posts in this thread about that eBay adapter and I think I found it there (it seems like it's $5.99 now). Went ahead and ordered one to give it a shot.

By the way, do all the functions of headphones that have a mic and volume and "home" button controls work with that adapter for you (assuming you've tried)?

I can't even get audio to work with the included headphones half the time...the songs keep playing but the audio just cuts out all the time with the lightning port (adapter or headphones). It's a garbage system. I'm grateful I already had BT headphones.

I can say I've recorded a Snapchat video with the adapter in, music playing and charging and I was able to hear audio from the video. I haven't tested an audio call.

Just got the one you mentioned earlier from eBay. Haven't gotten to try out headphones with microphone and controls yet (that will be one of the bigger tests), but just tried out using regular headphones while charging, and it seems to work, so at least that's there. I do occasionally hear a bit of static for a few seconds (almost like interference)--I'll have to keep an eye/ear on it to see what might be causing it and how to avoid it (if possible).

Well, unfortunately it seems that the bigger experiment of using headphones for a call (and similarly for Siri) as well as using headphone controls and microphone was a failure for me using that adapter.

Seems like headphones will work for media playback audio, but that's about it. Neither calls nor Siri would come through the headphones with the adapter. The volume controls and select button of Apple headphones wouldn't register either, nor would the headphones microphone.

Not completely unexpected, but fairly disappointing nonetheless. Certainly makes the usefulness of this adapter very limited.

Well I read the reviews of the Belkin one on Apple's website and the product doesn't look promising. A lot are saying it's a piece of junk.

The one thing it has going though is that is mfi certified.
The iPhone 7 hasn't been out for that long so I'm sure we'll see some legit quality options and prices will get more competitive.

Well, after trying the cheaper (non-certified) adapter that provides a lightning port and a regular 3.5mm jack and finding out that it will only let media audio through and won't work for calls, Siri, or any headphone controls or microphone, I decided to spend more money and get the only adapter that seems like it would actually support everything as it should be--the Belkin one.

Having only briefly tested it out after getting it today it seems like it does what it should: you can charge the phone and have headphones connected that could be used for media playback, calls, Siri, etc., with headphone controls and microphone supported. You still need to use an Apple 3.5mm to lightning adapter if you want to use any non-lighting headphones, but at least it works for all scenarios as far as use of headphones and ability to charge at the same time goes.

We'll see how it holds up over time. It's certainly a bit on the pricier side just to get back the basic functionality that essentially all previous iPhones have offered (realistically Apple should have had one of their own and for like around $20), but I guess that's the way it is, at least so far.

Nice, its always a good idea to go with something that's Apple approved and mfi certified. It will work like its supposed to and its future proof.

Three months later and still the Belkin seems to be the only legit solution. To me its a disgrace that Apple killed the headphone jack, included Lightning earbuds, but didn't have a solution ready for just this situation. At the minmum they should have an updated Apple Dock with a Lightning out next to the 3.5mm Audio out.

I need the headphone adapter to run the iPhone 7 through the AUX on my car and a charger cable maintain the charge on the iPhone, because I'm not getting a new car with Bluetooth for a few more years.
