This is my exact issue as well. I have an iPhone 5 now, and want to upgrade to a bigger screen. But the bezels on the iPhone 6+ are huge and seem like wasted space. However the screen size on the iPhone 6 just seems like too small of an upgrade.

My perfect phone size is probably the Droid Turbo. It has a 5.2 inch screen, but is only .2 inches taller than the iPhone 6. However, I'm on AT&T and really don't want to switch to Verizon.
Take a look at the LG G3, same size screen as the iPhone 6+ but in a much smaller form factor.

If you really don't like them, do what I did...

I bent the phone so that there is no more bezel - also provides a convenient little stand that I can put my wallet on.

They are kinda big compared to other smartphones with similar sized screens, and they bothered me when I first saw the 6+ and when I first got it... but I was only aware of the insane height of the phone for about the first 2-3 days. Now I'm used to it, I LOVE the 6+, and like others have said it actually does provide a convenient way to hold the phone especially in landscape orientation.

I have been flying a lot lately, and sat next to someone with a gold 6 on one flight and a gold 6 Plus on my last flight. I have a gold 5S. Still on the fence regarding upgrading to the 6 or 6 Plus. If I go 6 I think I will go with gold again, but I am thinking SG if I go with the Plus. It does minimize the look of the bezels a lot. (If they would just shrink the top bezel on the Plus I would be happy)

I never really paid attention to them. All I know is that for a few days it was, "wow, that's a big phone." Then after that it's just normal. Anything else seems small.

I actually laughed out loud at the Apple store the first time I saw it. I expected it to be huge but not that huge. My sister was like oh cool is that the new iPad mini? I was in shock especially since it's apple we are talking about, I never imagined they would produce a device with such a huge bezel and wasted space. But at least it is thin :)

Not hating, people obviously don't mind it judging by the sale numbers but I am just not one of them

I laughed, but not out loud, that you seem so proud of your sister's insight.

I do think the bezels need to trimmed down on the iPhone. I'm kind of surprised that the iPhone front hasn't been redesigned by now. One of the reasons I haven't updated my old iPhone yet is because of the length of the iPhones. I think it has something to do with the width in proportion to the length. Just looks off to me. At any rate I need to upgrade soon.

I've had a huge bezel for quite some time now and I'm used to. Besides its not about the size but how you use it

There is if your last device wasn't an iPhone. Very few Android phones have bezels that big - the Xperia Z series comes to mind though.

Although I don't really like the Note 3/4's form factor either, which some other posters have lauded - I had the Note 3, and it just felt kind of blah/utilitarian (and the ridges on the side filled up gook). Note 4 fixed that it looks like, but still not a fan of that fake leather backing.

It's kind of weird how Android is focusing on smaller bezels, with the result being many phones are thicker/heavier, while Apple is going in the exact opposite direction.

At the risk of sounding blasé, I don't think Apple or anyone who has been using iPhones for years really cares if Android fans are keen on the iPhone style of bezel. I find the bezels on Samsung phones to be hideous, but I doubt anyone who likes them gives a crap what I think.

The bezels on the 6 and 6 plus are the same height as the bezels on the 5s. Nothing changed.

The bezels are actually larger. when you consider that the phone itself is actually larger and there should have been less reason for dead bezel space, it's really kind of ridiculous.

And to the OP, no, I'm not used to the larger bezels. I wish they were smaller every day as it would make a huge impact on pocketability. But I've made the tradeoff intentionally.

This was the first time I or anyone got to see the new iPhones

Even though I had it preordered and in store pickup all set up my first impressions were that it wasn't that big at all . And this is from a hypocrite who use to hate on the note all day long.

I use the phone constantly with one hand and no case, best phone in terms of feel that I ever owned and I'm pretty damn picky.

They're wider because the phone is wider. They're not taller. I double checked by holding my daughter's 5s next to my 6 plus just before I typed that.

I'll rather have Touch ID and large bezels than have small bezels and no Touch ID. Just like the htc one and their front facing speakers the bezels are there for a reason. Plus these are the two best looking phones on the market.

There is no phone at all out there that is 6 inches screen and smaller then the Plus Im sorry to say...and the bezels are not bad at all on the Plus, the black front and curved edges makes the screen really beautiful actually, the bezels are not bad at all, although obviously they could of made it slimmer for a overall smaller device,

But the thinness of the Plus and weight makes it the easiest phablet to hold and use after a long period of time, slim fit in the pocket, and noticeably thinner then just about every phablet out there
Let me correct you there, the 6plus has a 5.5 screen while note 4 has 5.7 screen and is smaller phone than 6 plus.

----------

Note 4 is both wider and thicker, how did you come to such a computation in your head?
Its not as tall as the 6 plus, maybe thats what he meant?

I can assure you the 6 plus is a tad taller than the 6 bezel. The difference is small but absolutely there.

Unfortunately, doesn't look like bezels are going away anytime soon. So only choice is to accept them right now.

no point in letting it bother you. Apple did it because they didn't have to fight for market share. They knew they could get away with it. If they were the underdog fighting for market they would have released a redisigned iPhone. That one they'll save for the model 7. Its just business sense. If apple had been behind in sales you bet they would have released a bezelless design in fear of loosing money and the company diving into the ground. Why bother is what the board meeting would have concluded. Buy the iPhone or don't ... two year time you'll get the redisign unless some miracle happens and they release a redesign in 2015 but they have the apple watch to distract people with so I wouldn't bet on it.

The Note 4 is a wider, heavier, thicker cubersome phone then the Plus

Great point about the turbo! That and the Moro x have a fantastic shape and size.

I would never switch back to VZW or any carrier for a phone, leaned my lessons a long time ago. However I love the size of the Turbo.

I think apple could have did a lot with the plus, but this was really a test run to see how it would be received by people and they pretty much know now that it's a hit and people want larger phones.

As for me, I'm typing this from a reg 6 with my plus on the table and just can't really get used to lugging around such a huge device like the plus, even with sweat pants on the very top of the phone creeps out of my pocket because of those huge bezels. Nope...I'm not used to them yet...lol

If they're generally the same size at a glance, nobody should be sitting around thinking they're huge compared to other iPhones.

I didn't break out the calipers, but just glancing at them, they appear to be about the same height. Width is different, of course. This likely accounts for the perceptions of hugeness that some people seem to be going on about.

The larger bezel is a trade off for the larger screen size. No way could I have kept the 6 with my vision. The 5s was my first iphone, I had to return it within 14 days because of too much eye strain and headaches.
