I got the SGS because I wasn't sure if I'd wear a watch long-term. Next time, I'd go for the SS for the flexibility with bands and a bit more durability.

This was my thought process when I first bought the SGS, I've never worn a watch on a regular basis and wasn't sure how I would like wearing it. That being said, I've worn the Apple Watch every day since 4/27, and just upgraded to the SBSS yesterday.

Unfortunately for me, Apple Watch is here to stay. Now I just need a SB Milanese Loop and a leather band with SB lugs.

Had my Space Grey 42mm Sport for about a month. Banged it a few times and got a very very faint scuff on the top right. Generally durable and also easy to keep it out of harms way. It's gotten rained on almost every other day and no incident. The black band has had some top coating peel of some kind, which has been documented by other users. It looks great, works great, no bugs no lag no pieces falling apart, nothing. Very pleased and would give it a very solid 4/5 in its current form. OS2 will take it to the next level.

Only scratch I have is from someone accidentally tapping the glass 2x with a ring. I'd consider it a micro scratch as it's barely noticeable.

No scratches here, and I've tapped it again rocky walls, rocks, in the gym, metal, etc.. seems to be pretty solid. Looking forward to move uses with OS2

I got the SGS after looking at the SBSS. I wasn't sure I wanted to spend that much money on the SBSS, not knowing if I would like the watch, well that was Saturday morning. After playing with it all weekend I went back to the Apple Store this morning and exchanged it for the SBSS mainly for the sapphire crystal. My last couple of watches had this sapphire crystal and it has saved my watches!

No scratches on it at all, been using it constantly, including several days doing some concreting, bricklaying and assorted mucky jobs. Shove it under the tap afterwards, no issues...

Great decision. The SBSS is so nice, I'm stoked on it.

I've had 42 Sport. since middle of May, and compared to other watches I've had its lasted Very well, I wash it once a week or so, I still want a SS but I imagine that the SS will scratch more

The casing on the SS will scratch more, but the screen will scratch less. Personally, I find the sides easier to ding.

Got mine 3 weeks after release. Space grey sport. No visible scratches yet, but lots of micro ones under a magnifying glass.

No damage on the body yet. I had an armorshield protector on it that eventually got grimy and fell off, and I had one of those plastic shields for it, but that kept catching on things and popping off....

Same boat as my AW Sport. These micro scratches on the sensor appeared only weeks after I got mine in June 2015. Amazingly this came from DUST on the charing puck (I had the puck on a stand - I think every time I placed the watch on the puck, gravity kicked in and slight scratching - movement of the sensor on the puck caused this!) Had to be, I cleaned it off, I dont use the stand..haven't had any further scratches since.

So yeah that ticked me off, especially when I try - almost in an OSD fashion to protect the entire watch case, screen. Other than the back, my Sport with the Zagg screen protector still looks pretty darn good I think. *IF I did not have the screen protector, I know for a fact there would be a very bad gouge on the face. Grabbing milk inside of a fridge at Target about a year and 1/2 ago and my watch hit the metal edge of where the milk sits on. The screen protector had a slight "dent" but it healed itself - no damage at all on the actual watch face.. I know some say these look silly, take away from the look of it...I personally swear by them.

Original SG sport almost 2 years old now. A number of scratches on the screen and on the case (which reveals the silver coloured Aluminium underneath). The scratches on the screen are only observable when viewed closely and at certain angles. The scratch on the case is small (thankfully) so it isn't a deal breaker.

Series 1 gold sport. Got it on October 2016. One long scratch on the screen after using it for two months. Scratch is only visible under direct sunlight. Case is currently intact.

I then upgraded to the SS series 2 at the end of December 2016. Screen is flawless and the brightness really makes a huge difference. Case is a little scratched with a tiny ding on one corner. Understandable since the type of SS used is quite soft but the scratches can be easily buffed out. The ding probably not as its quite deep. Just have to be careful not to knock against a pointed edge.

I think the sapphire screen makes a huge difference.

That said, I still use all three on a regular basis mainly because their casing colours are different and allows for different casing/band combinations. Also helps for sleep tracking if you keep an old Apple Watch when upgrading.

EDIT: Just realised that someone bumped this old thread from 2015. Interesting discussion though.

I noticed is also on the top of the forum. Wanted to read about scratching on the back of SS AW. I haven't seen it. I picked up a 1st Gen Black SS today at a great deal I think. The back sensor appears to be much different compared to the Sport. I actually love this SS even the weight feels far better!

Once you go SS, you never go back.

I won't, it feels great on my wrist. One slight problem right now. I cannot pair this thing for the life of me. I've been at it for over 3 hours. It needs to update to the latest software first - finally did and installed. Then it goes to "Pair" and it just put's me in a loop, saying the it needs to update software, which it then skips..then asked "which wrist will you wear your watch" I chose Left, the whole Watch app on the phone freezes. No idea whats going on.

** Edit. Never mind. I saw an older post about rebooting the phone. This seemed to work.

Mine has some little scratchess on the display but nothing major...I regret not paying 200 more for a space black watch :/ not for the durability but for the looks

Over time, the sapphire display pays for itself. It is a nice add on to have.

I got the original sports watch on launch day. I babied the thing and was very careful but by August I had had two nicks in the aluminium and a scratch on the screen. I bought a SS series 0 and I've not had any scratches on the screen and all scratches on the casing can be buffed out.

Everyone who has had their AW Sport for a considerable amount of time has surface scratches on the screen. Totally unavoidable. The Ion X glass is not that hardy. But, these scratches aren't noticeable until you put the watch under direct, bright light and are looking at it from the right angle.

I agree the scratch I developed on mine could only be seen in certain lighting. It was the dings to the casing that bothered me.

Which are are permanent with the aluminum model and looks terrible from what I have seen. In my opinion, the added benefit of the stainless is having the ability to remove the scratches with a Cape Cloth or a stainless scratch remover. Even "Dings" hide better on the stainless over the aluminum.

I agree. That's one of the reasons why I upgrade to the stainless steel model. Along with the fact that it does with more bands. I use the cape cod cloth to polish my watch.
