wow what was this post about again? Anyways I just came back from dominican republic and got my cell phone bill and got whacked for 7 minutes at 1.99 a minute and I didn't make any calls. I called att and they said even if my phone is on and it goes to vmail I get whacked so if you do bring your iphone turn the gsm off if your using your wifi. I used a softphone on a wireless network to call back and it sounded great and it was free as I connected it to my pbxnsip ipbx and made and received calls that way and it is running on a mac!

See OP. If you use AT&T to roam, you will get raped in your bill. Best to use local carriers to call back to the US. Unsurprisingly, its much, much, much cheaper to call from a foreign country to the US than vice-versa.
