Not the one reason. But I'll play...The one true reason....
My vehicles, fine clothing, lakefront home, travel for play, other toys etc could all be classified as unnecessary and beyond human basic needs. I mean, how far could we go with this?

For those people who order a new phone every year. What's the motivation of getting the 6s?
I'm not being critical and I know different strokes for different folks but here's what I'm looking at.

932 dollars for a phone that will replace my current phone that is not even a year old yet.
The 6s has some nice features like force touch, and the camera was improved but dropping close to a 1,000 on a phone is shockingly expensive. I know I would offset the cost by selling my current one, but I'm wondering what's the basic motivation for those who do this often.
If you buy outright it makes sense to upgrade every year b.c of resale value. It cost me $300 to upgrade every year. If I waited to sell my phone and upgrade every 2 years it would probably cost double since the resale value would be cut in half.
Basically it cost the same to upgrade every year as every 2 years if you buy outright, so why not![]()
Probably not worth buying it outright. The contract is what gives you that $450 discount which helps immensely. I too always used to buy a $200 iPhone on contract, and 2 years later sell it for around $325 which means after the worthless AT&T upgrade fees and whatnot, I always broke even or made a little bit of profit.
But if you pay full price at $650, and a year later you sell it for $500, you lose $150 every year.
makes them feel good about having that latest high profile phone and gets them some attention and importance in their life.
Well yes, the contract gives you a subsidized price on the phone, but it also increases your bill by $15-$25 per month to make up for it. No one is giving you a discounted phone - you're just paying for it as part of the plan instead of up front.
So you're speaking for others here yes? How about don't. I buy a new phone every year because I can... my wife wasn't going to get a new one this year but did because of the rose gold.... you know why? Because we can. Current phone drops down to the kids, old phones hang around as back ups, get given away to family/friends that need one or sold.makes them feel good about having that latest high profile phone and gets them some attention and importance in their life.
I can understand the log of selling/buying due to resale value. I was running the numbers myself, but with out expenses in my life, I cannot justify the cost.
I'm looking at nearly 1,000 dollars , if I sell my phone for 500 (for the sake of discussion), that's 500 dollars out of pocket for a new phone to replace what is admittedly a good iPhone. Being a father of two 9 year olds who are quite active, that expense is hard to justify
I am seeing $650 + numbers for 64g iPhone 6 plus right now. Makes upgrading relatively cheap at those prices.64 gb version. I usually get $500 for it. If you do not want to do any work most websites will even give you over $400 for it.
selling at $500 means I can push it out within minutes of posting it. If I wanted to wait it out I could probably get $550-$575
