Questionable Next-Generation iPhone Rear Shell Images Surface

Whether or not the pictures are real, and of a real case, I'm sure they are. I spend a ton of time working in China developing other types of products. I take pictures (sometimes as crappy as these) every time I'm over here.

My money is that they are real.

that is a render. notice how the back isnt rounded, and kinda has those "pinches." those are from a bad loft in a rendering program. i do agree with that design. the next iPhone is going to defiantly resemble the iPad...but more so the 3G iPad. like the other said, the aluminum messes with the signal.

I wish the next iPhone could look like this, but all one has to do is look at how incredibly ugly the iPad 3G model is with it's disgusting black plastic ass, to know that no recently designed iPhone model is anywhere near becoming all aluminum. It just doesn't work. The first iPhone tried to do this, looked exactly like the iPad 3G does 3 years later, and still had a ton of connectivity issues. Does anyone believe Apple wanted to abandon that gorgeous design after only one year? Nope. They had to. They got away with terrible reception during a time when it could be blamed on AT&T, and Edge was all it could connect to. To make an impact with the iPhone 3G, and actually improve things, more than the radio had to change...the entire case did. This, the plastic iPhone casing, is not going away any time soon. Don't even expect to change, even slightly.

In fact, anyone expecting a case redesign of any kind for the iPhone is sorely mistaken, and completely out to lunch.

Regardless of the validity, I personally think the chances are very high for a unibody type iPhone, it only makes sense. Apple did a unibody macbook (plastic). Its Apple, everything standardizes and is consistent, otherwise Steve's head will explode.

What the hell would you call the current iPhone design, 2 years running? (other than a unibody plastic design)...

Seeing as that it doesn't have any place for the antenna (like the black area towards the top of the 3G iPad), i'm very skeptical with this picture.

First thing that occurred to me, too. These are fake.

If the unit is aluminum, and if it passes testing who knows. I'm someone has made a bogus prototype to stir up this discussion, who knows.

That looks awesome! It is just missing the flash in the back camera (one can dream) Front camera looks be VERY cool.

But I´d like it better if they could get rid of the black antena thing... perhaps in the iPhone Wi-Fi only?

I by chance flew from West Palm Beach to Dallas last Wednesday and what a surprise to see none other then Steve Wozniac on my plane. He had an iphone in his hand and the thing I noticed was that the shell was silver. not black or white. I doubt that he's still using a 1st gen model. So I'm guessing he may have one of these? I couldn't tell..

I hope not, I read that the next iphone might have a camera flash and I dont see one in these pictures. The flash is essential. The lack of one nearly made me decide not to get the current iphone. Either flash or the new technology that makes the pictures just as bright.. DO IT

Whether its a 3D render, photoshop, from Mars or Venus, my money is on that kind of version of the next iphone.

I truly believe we will see an iphone with alu back, following the line with the iPad. I would buy one

btw, in the 3rd photo you can see some light entering in the silence botton hole

Plus a flash and that would look great to me.

It's worth noting that a metal case is the sort of thing that can be worked around, and indeed even used with *very* good antenna design. But Apple have never been very good at antenna design previously, so it would be unusual for them to start now - they patently haven't figured it out with the iPad. But a plastic section would be absolutely fine by me.

But yes, these are clearly fake, despite some complete perspective fail from people saying the same in this thread...

Also agreed. If they make that (with or without the black strip) i would buy one in a heartbeat.. plus i wouldn't have to buy another iPhone in years as i can't see how they could improve on a physical design like that imho.

Although i'd probably have to upgrade in 2013 when they drop the software support for it..

I made a comment the other day about a spotting and this was exactly the kind of this the person saw.

And it makes perfect sense not having a 3G bar at the top, perhaps there will be a cheaper non-3G version out? Would that be a possibility?


I'd also say that my only complaint with the 3G and 3GS was the plastic back... The metal back on the 1st gen was brilliant, and sturdy... I was surprised to see them defer from that with gen2 and 3...
