Coming from a jailbroken iphone with bite SMS I realize their are two enormous benefits to quick reply. 1) less interruptions to workflow, and 2) saves the home button from wearing out due to less double tapping to multitask. It really simplifies the way you use your phone and ios 7 is suppose to be all about the simplicity. I think it's only a matter of time til apple implements quick reply with an API for developers.

I just don't know why almost everybody is so obsessed with the "quick reply" option, I just don't get why is such a big deal.

Imagin staying in the app your in and replying to somebody via text without having to double tap and swipe to change between the app your using and messages.

With quick reply you will get a text, hit reply, type, hit send, and continue where you left off. Way simpler!

Exactly! As it stands now you can't reply to a text in iOS without hitting the home button. That is just silly!

Like I said, I don't know what's the big deal, it takes half of a second open the messages app and another half of a second to get back to where you were.

Maybe I dislike it or don't care about, mainly because all Android users want this feature so bad in iOS.

I can live without this "quick reply" for the rest of my life.

I honestly thought the same thing before I jailbroke my phone. Now that I'm on ios 7 without it, I really miss it because it genuinely made using the phone smoother and less cumbersome. It feels clumsy now. Hopefully you get a chance to use it natively one day or try it on someone's jail broken phone.

I think the quick reply concept created by CarlosQG fits in with iOS 7's design scheme better.

As much as I like the "search bar" type quick reply. I could really see a "slide to reply" in place of it where it flows into a quick reply pop up. I dunno just think it will perfectly in that extra tall notification banner. whada y'all think?

There are people who can live just fine without an iPhone (or any smartphone) for the rest of their lives. Does that make an iPhone or any smartphone any less useful or even important to many many others who actually use one?

Yes, that's the right analogy..

Perhaps, will see if Apple adds "Quick Reply" in the future, I honestly don't think it will be in iOS 7 GM.

One more thing, if it gets added in the future for iMessage, that's cool, but how about third party apps like Whatsapp and BBM (yet to be released), would Apple make this possible?

Apple would allow it for other 3rd party apps, as Mavericks has an API for Quick Reply, it's there for Mail, iMessage, and on iOS could probably be extended to all "Messaging/IM" apps. So things like FaceBook, and Twitter could see these as an extension to their integration in BOTH OS. (Mavericks doesn't allow FB or Twitter replies yet)

I'd like to watch Avatar: The Last Airbender without leaving the video and re-playing it every 45 seconds to reply to a message in another app. It's a simple idea, with an amazingly productive outcome.

And why would that be a "wrong" analogy?

Just because something might not be of use to someone doesn't mean it wouldn't be of value to many others.

But I never said it wasn't useful, I said I don't see why it's a big deal, we (iPhone users without jailbreak) the majority, the ones that have never use Android, don't really care about this, many have never even heard of this, how can you miss something you've never tried.

The average user takes whatever Apple gives them, and as long it works, they prefer 3-5 new additions, than 20 and get really confused about, again, iOS is not Android.

At least half a dozen of my friends and close pals at school have asked me something along the lines of, "Why can't Apple make a way so you can reply to a text message without leaving the app you're in? It's soooooo annoying!"

Ok, so that's 6 people from 50-80 people you know, and those 6 are probably the ones that have a friend with Android, so yeah, the average user doesn't ask for stuff like that.

Just like many didn't/don't care about having even basic shortcuts to enable/disable WiFi or something more than that that is now part if Control Center and will be an essential part of iOS starting with version 7. Many who wanted that and even many more who didn't even care about it will still end up using it and many of them will even like it and expect to have it in future versions and/or other phones they would come across.

Same applied to something like the Notification Center that wasn't there for a number of years and is now an important feature for many (including many who never even really thought about it or cared about it until it was introduced in iOS).

A lot of average users didn't ask of any of those things and yet a lot of them use it all just fine and like it and pretty much expect it all to be there now.

Fairly basic concept that's actually been demonstrated pretty well with a number of features over the years already.

Not trying to pick on you man, but that's what makes inventing new things people never thought of before so exciting and essential. You create something that improves peoples lives in a way that they never could have done so on their own. It goes back to that old saying from Henry Ford, "If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse." [I think it was Ford :)] I believe Steve Jobs even said something along these lines when talking about focus groups. Just because people aren't asking for it, doesn't mean they won't like it. Especially, if it improves something they already use.

I remember that. When asked what market research went into the iPad, Mr. Jobs replied: “None. It’s not the consumers’ job to know what they want.” He also said, "It's really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don't know what they want until you show it to them."

So let me get this straight hahah, you don't want quick reply because you think android users want this feature on iOS?

Wow I guess some people just disagree to disagree...

Yes, you contradict yourself, see, people is asking for this, I'm not saying don't invent things, on the other hand, if it's so great, why Apple hasn't implemented it yet?? Not every little thing has to go into the iPhone.

Here are some great innovations..

Seems to me that the great company of Apple is with me right now, oh wait they are not, they just introduced "Quick Reply" in iOS 7, you win...

Haha!!! Those are revolutionary ideas!!! Love it. I understand where you think I was contradicting myself, but I wrote that post in response to your post about iPhone users that never heard or thought of that feature. Just because they haven't thought if it, doesn't mean they wouldn't love a new feature apple gives them. You said they just take what apple gives them. Why not give them a better experience.

Ok, if I'm so wrong, how come Apple is taking this long in introducing a feature like that, don't you think this "Quick Reply" has come in an Apple's meeting, even tested it, and in the end they just concluded "Not now, still not for everybody" or some conclusion like that.

You're talking to me like if I was the guy that gives the OK to implement this feature, LOL.

Seems like it should work well with the swipe down on notification banners, just put a reply box in there!

I'm still holding out hope it'll make it into the final product but realistically I expect Apple to hold off another year or two and then introduce it as a revolutionary new feature.

This is the only real big glaring omission I see in iOS right now. Control Center took care of most other big complaints.

Haha!! Make it happen, now Mr. Apple!!!
I don't doubt that your right about it coming up in a meeting already, especially since quick reply made its way into Mavericks. I'm hoping they are just trying to perfect it like they did with copy and paste. That was a feature that took a long time to make it into iOS and I'm sure it was brought up right from the get go.
