Intuit today announced the forthcoming debut of QuickBooks for Mac 2012, the latest version of the company's financial management software for small businesses. The new OS X Lion-optimized version is set to ship on September 26th and will offer over 50 new features and enhancements.
"As more and more small businesses adopt Macs, we see increased adoption of QuickBooks for Mac," said Dan Wernikoff, senior vice president and general manager of Intuit's Financial Management Solutions division. "In response, we've recommitted ourselves to making the product even better. With Apple's new Lion OS, we focused on a simple, elegant and easy to use native experience, while continuing to add new features that save small businesses time."
Among the enhancements included in QuickBooks for Mac 2012:

- Faster access to information enabled by improved search tools, customer and vendor history panels and transactions lists
- Simplifications for multi-step tasks, including batch processing for online banking transactions and new invoicing options

I still don't see anything about multiple currencies, which is the only reason we still have the Windows version. :(

EDIT: I do see it, in the "Which features, if currently used, would make it difficult to switch from QuickBooks for Windows?" question in the FAQ.

The following features available in QuickBooks for Windows are not currently available in QuickBooks for Mac:

QuickBooks Payroll Services, like Basic, Enhanced and Assisted Payroll
Accountant's Copy
Access to 3rd party applications that integrate to QuickBooks for Windows via the QuickBooks SDK
Multiple currencies
Units of Measure
Price levels
Inventory assemblies
Online bill pay and funds transfer
Industry-specific reports and features

Ugh. This isn't the post that I was hoping for. :(
Maybe a 10AM PST announcement? *fingers crossed*

...totally unrelated, I know. Lynch me.

Intuit can KMA. They've dropped the ball so many times for Mac users that they are no longer a player.

Puh-leeze. QuickBooks is a piece of junk. So QuickBooks 2012 for Mac has finally caught up to QuickBooks 1995 for Windows?

QuickBooks for Mac will never, ever, ever, ever hold a candle to the BEST accounting package for the Mac, which is AccountEdge.

And anybody who believes that Intuit actually gives a damn about the Mac platform clearly hasn't been paying attention to how Intuit has treated all their loyal Quicken customers of over 20 years. Intuit is a horrible company that makes horrible products with horrible customer service (straight to you from India!).

I wouldn't give Intuit one more penny of my money if my life depended on it.

Even after all these years, Intuit still doesn't offer multi-currency support, payroll support on the Mac, the ability to create purchase orders from estimates/invoices, parity with the Windows products, cross-platform file compatibility, and much much much more.

I support REAL COMPANIES that make GREAT PRODUCTS that WHOLEHEARTEDLY SUPPORT THE MAC... such as AccountEdge (for business accounting) and iBank (for personal finances).

Sure, AccountEdge and iBank both have their problems too, but at least they CARE about their Mac customers and WANT to continually make the best products for Mac users. I will ONLY be using AccountEdge and iBank from now on.

Intuit has shown their true colors, and they are a disgusting company. Intuit can go to hell.

Worst program ever. Almost makes me run parallels to use the window's version (second worst program ever, but slightly better). Its freakin 2011 can intuit actually put more than 2 programmers on the 2012 version?
It truly amazes me how you need to click 4 times to do one thing, its almost magic.

It's Quicken, not Quickbooks that needs the support

Number 1 complain in the 'no-rosetta-anymore' is solved.

My Quickbooks 2010 opened with no issues just last night on my Lion mac.

My Quicken 2007 is still marooned on my Snow Leopard Mac.

This is very annoying. I like none of the other options. Oh well.

Someone came up with a fix for that idiotic calendar skin. Maybe we'll get luck with Quicken 2007 too. Doubtful, I know.

Hey baby, I've changed. For real this time. Just take me back one more time and I'll make it all up to you. I know you've missed me.

Agree

I agree with Scotty321, QB on MAC stinks. I haven't tried accounting Edge but I'd rather use QB on VM than directly on a Mac, its that bad.

Is that the UI? If so, good lord. Hardly a great example of a modern Lion-inspired UI. 2012 product? Looks like something I'd have expected to pick up circa 2002, and that's being generous!

Intuit can kiss my...

Having finally switched from Quicken to iBank due to incompatibility with Lion, I am finally free of Intuit's crappy software. The Mac has been the bastard stepchild to Intuit for a long time. Are they troubled that Apple market share is expanding quickly and they have basically forfeited that market? Dunno. But I do know I have been burned by having to pay for their crappy half-baked Mac products and I will never again.

The million $ question...

Will it finally support payroll... I tried to use Quickbooks for Mac several years ago and it wouldn't support a lot of the payroll features that the win version supports... so I've been stuck running Quickbooks in a VM...

I use it in Parallels as there is no European version for mac. It does the job. Unfortunately started using it tele years ago so I don't want the hassle of switching to another package and learning it

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

I am also using Win Quicken 2007 in a VM until I find a solid Mac native personal finance application where I can migrate my 15 years of Quicken data.

FU Intuit.

Intuit Insanity:

In prior versions, in order to get a list of invoices (not an unreasonable thing for a small business to want to know, right?), you have to go to Reports > Banking > Missing Checks > Accounts Receivable. Sure. "Banking"? "Missing Checks"? Those were going to be my next choices.

Upgrades (which ought to have a permanent roll-eyes emoticon right from the factory) are always waaay overpriced and underdeveloped. Unfortunately, Mac alternatives are limited, and I find AccountEdge just a little bizarre.

Agreed. Let's add to that, the fact that even the "superior" windows version has had glaring shortfalls for years that go unaddressed. For example, it has never been much of a database, despite the fact that database functions are the easiest thing to add to an accounting "database" program. Try to do a search on all fields for a grain of data that you know exists but don't know exactly where to look. Sorry, not even a "find within all fields" function. Pathetic.

Account edge? you must be joking. Licence: £149, Service Agreement: £108 per year. The service agreement is mandatory, year in year out. No way! Kiss my shiny metal ass!
