No .mac account, no cell phone, so...

Without a cell phone or a .mac account, it seems like there's no use for me to use iSync... True?

Why would you do that? Either use iCal and AddressBook with iSync, or use PalmDesktop and iSync. Besides, sounds like a feature Palm would have to implement not Apple.

you would do that so that you can input a new address or change of a contact on your palm and then.

Get it anyway, first if any of your friends/random people you meet have a compatible phone, show them how amazing the mac is by using iSync. 😀

Still waiting for PocketPC support......while I know many in these forums wouldnt want it, i do, and no way am I going to use it until its there. Nor am I going to use 3rd pary apps which cost around $100 just to sync with my Mac.

Will it work outside the US?

Hehe, great to make my first post.

Does anyone know if QT6.3 can be used on 3G services outside america like Orange's 3?

Say hello to the iPhones. There's around 22 of them, and they Sync all sorts of info right with your Mac.

I hope this latest software move from Apple finally puts any and all iPhone rumors to rest. Face it, Apple doesn't want to make a phone (and quite of few of us don't think they should). The company is more interested in supporting other phones (which is the right move).

BTW, now there's a reason for me to ditch my ancient Nokia in favor of a new one.

faster aac encoding

if encoding aac is 10% faster, this is some damn good news! 🙂 it's pretty much fast enough already, but the 1x more there is always welcome!

Anyone else notice that on the home page pic, Motorola are the first company in the list? It means nothing I'm sure... Keep them sweet, then ditch them for the 970, yay!

AAACK! Why no mpeg 2?

I think it is ridiculous that they still don't support Mpeg 2 import/export and viewing right in the player. Especially when two of their products iDVD and DVD SP use the format. Is this the result of some legal hurdle that I am not aware of?

Edit: One improvement noticed in iTunes, importing in the AAC codec is now a bit quicker (about 10%).

Can anyone confirm this? The update says only improvements for iMovie and iDVD (yes I know iTunes uses QT, just 10% is a BIG improvement!)

Moto v120e?

Anyone else with a v120 series a bit upset? Finally iSync supports real phones that people use (GSM in the US???? Can you hear me now? Hello?), but no v120. v60... v66... v720? Why not? Am I wrong in assuming that the v60 and v120 CDMA series have essentially the same format? Sure, more memory and blue lights are great, but would it have been that hard to take the extra step?

Well those of you with v120c phone can hope. Though they are not supported now, there is a 120_c entry in the USBDevice.plist of the Motorolla Conduit. There's no icon for 120_c, it isn't listed as a supported phone, and my bet is that it won't be recognized by iSync now, but it looks like Apple was trying for it. There is hope for the future. Although if the future is measured by X11 beta updates or promises of a Rendezvous enabled iTunes (yeah it's come, but the excitement for it died 9 months before it) or 17" Powerbook pre-order to order times we had all better find something better to do with our time than wait.

i'm about ready to punch sprint pcs.

i love the fact that the sony-ericsson bluetooth t608 is mentioned on apple's site, but when i call sprint to get an estimated delivery date the morons have no idea what i'm talking about.

so far all i've read has been 2nd quarter 2003. well, uhh, it is june here....

As far as I can tell, yes, just .mac.

I say, "Booooooooo!" 😡

Can you think of another way to sync bookmarks between 2 computers? Do you expect them to give you some sort of server space for free?

Well, they used to. But not anymore.

iSync still sucks with iPod

Yep. Still locks up my iPod after I sync the calendar.

This issue (and similar ones with the cal and ipod) is all over Apple's own ipod forums. So, gotta say this is pretty slack.

One thing for it not to sync, but for it to lock up an ipod! Geez. Weak.

Another way? Sure, just copy the file over to Safari I s'pose.

Don't want to derail this thread, but I just don't see the value in .mac. Maybe it's 'cause I already have server space for myself. And it feels like Apple is forcing value onto the .mac thing when they restrict iSync's abilities to .mac users.

OK. I'm done...

Safari Bookmarks on the Web

Hmmmm... When I downloaded the iSync update, the page mentioned something about 'if you choose not to sync your bookmarks, the bookmarks from your home computer are always available via any web browser.'

Now, it seems Apple has removed that line from the page.

Further -- what is this graphic? Apple is using it on the iSync home page next to the section where the text disappeared. It may disappear soon, as well... Is it an iSync window for managing bookmarks? Is it the web interface that apparently was pulled at the last minute? Is it a future mini-app for logging into .Mac?

Thoughts?

Prism Problem

Yo Potus!

I have a Prism and it was taking me longer and longer to sync with HotSync (up to an hour with a drug database program I use) so I recently purchased the Tungsten C - whoa! hold on to your headband. The speed increase in syncing was unbelievable. Now it takes about 2 minutes to do the same things the Prism took an hour to do. It's a little pricy, but it includes Wi-Fi and 51 free Megs of RAM. Nice screen, and I'm even liking the keypad. Definitely take a look.

(Sorry about being OT)🙂

Re: AAACK! Why no mpeg 2?

They do support playback of mpeg-2 files. Buy the mpeg-2 component from Apple for $20.

mpeg-2 licenses cost money, apparently more than Apple is willing to swallow, so they pass it on to the customer.

Anyways, if you used DVPSP you would know that it came with an mpeg-2 export component for QT.

I don't think we're derailing. The thread is about iSync 1.1 and QT.

So here's the scenario, I have a computer at home, and a computer at work. You want their bookmarks synced. I press iSync. Just where to the bookmarks go? I go to work and press isync... where are the bookmarks supposed to come from?

With .mac, I have server space and the bookmarks get copied there. When I get to work, they get synced with my work computer.

I guess they could be synced with the iPod or a phone like iCal, but since the iPod doesn't display bookmarks maybe it didn't really occur to them or they didn't want to clutter up the ipod. I'll admit I hadn't really thought of iPod syncing of bookmarks. Why not?

But I still didn't understand your solution of "copy it over to safari." What does that mean? They're coming FROM safari. They need to get copied to either the .mac server, or a device (ipod, phone) to transport them to the other computer.

It would also be nice to just have all computers updated automagically with rendezvous if desired.

For all it's supposed simplicity, I can't get rendezvous to do a dang thing.

Here I go again, feeling like I'm derailing this thread... But i gotta ask, can you play MP3's on your Tungsten C? Just checked it out at Palm's site and didn't see any blatant headers about MP3 capability.

Thanks!
