Recording Applications?

I'm ending up produce more and more training documentation these days for the various systems that I support and am therefore interested to start recording demonstrations from my desktop. I note that Quicktime states that it can record footage from digital camcorders, but can it record the actions that I perform on my computer as a movie? If not, does anyone have any recommendations of suitable applications for doing this?

Not sure about buying a pro version at this time. Full-screen would be nice but I'm not that bothered about it. However, I note from the standard version that Apple is now emphasising all those options that I am missing by slapping "PRO" labels beside the appropriate menu options.

My first impression upon seeing this news: Great! I'll be able to buy 7 Pro now :)

Upon closer inspection: OK, my country's not in the list, and there's no option for unlisted countries

Now I'm waiting for Apple to reply to my email.

Nermal, I guess Australia is. I opened quicktime and took the upgrade to pro option, and it sent me to the Apple store fine. Work for you?

CHEEZY! I was always bugged by the little pop-up "Get QuickTime Pro now" window. Now, we get to have cluttered menus showing us what we can't do with the regular version. Give me a break. I do have a copy of Pro. I just don't use it in this office. If I need ot edit content, I go across the hall. I don't want my menus cluttered. . .
I think it's fair for Apple to promote a paid version of its product. Just like plenty of websites offer ad free browsing when you pay. And yes, sometimes the ads at some sites (not here) get annoying. Especially when they are those ones with the tiny close button.

Anyway, I'd rather have the menu options like that than the stupid pop up. I say good for Apple on this one.

I'm glad I read this forum.

I quickly hit Pause on the download.

I'll wait til all these problems are fixed thank you!

I remember seeing a version of tiger somewhere and the live resizing was very obvious. i don't think there is any live-resizing going on with quicktime 7 in Panther.

edit: on further inspection, i can see live resizing, it's just really really fast. too bad can't hold shift and show a slow motion version :)

Downloading right now... I better buy the pro version...

I'm still on 10.3.9, so the upgrade really is for "everybody"... ;)

Yes, but what features do we loose by being 10.3.9?

Full screen playback still pro-only deature? :(

This one has always seemed to me like a dirty trick to get more people to upgrade to pro even tough they don't need all the other features.

Are you sure you got an untouched copy of the GM? If you have any odd problems I suggest you use the install disc that came in the box. And have fun if/when Apple's lawyers come a calling to find out where you downloaded the GM from.

Blah, blah, lawyers, blah, blah, lawyers. Give it rest please, he got from the same place thousands of others did and I'm sure Apple will be knocking on everyones doors all around the world, because they have nothing better to do except release underwhelming Pro G5's and Powerbooks

Rant over

1. H.264 *encoding* is demanding. Decoding fullscreen 2Mbps 30fps H.264 is more than possible on even a 1GHz G4, with CPU to spare.

2. H.264 (also known as MPEG AVC or MPEG-4 Part 10) is designed to scale from 3G devices to HD.

Does anyone else see the irony in this statement?

I guess, rather than referring to it as LIVE resizing, they should have called it "really, really fast" resizing. :p

Maybe you've watched "The Matrix" one too many times?

No key given

I just ordered QTP 7 and I never got a key. Am I just impatient and have to wait for it, or am I missing something?
In the online store status it is confusing. It says that it was electronically delivered, (never got it) and yet at the same time it claims 3-5 days for shipping. What gives?

Downloaded it and brought Pro key and yes avi playback blows for me too. Small files are ok but i've tried a couple of avi's that i've ripped from DVDs (that I own before anyone goes off on one!) and they playback really jerkily - they were fine with 6.5.

I resigned myself long ago to paying for Pro with 7. I've managed to use Macs since Mac OS 8 and only had to pay for QTPro ONCE so far due to various bundles that came with pro keys :) I can pay for one upgrade I guess.

Now, fullscreen and saving should NOT be called "pro" features, and should not cost extra! But the other stuff that really IS pro is worth my $30 once every 3 years or whatever. I'm sure it won't be worth it for most people.

(And at least THIS time, the $30 upgrade fee really IS an upgrade: new features. Not $30 to keep the SAME pro features, while the new features go to everyone, paid or free alike.)

Is it just me?

Is it just me, or does it look like Apple is changing the look of their web site. These new pages are similar to the pro page layouts. The quicktime page in particular is very nice. I wonder if they will keep the Tiger pages the same with the black background, or change it to look more like the Quicktime page?

quick question...if I upgrade to QT pro 7 in 10.3, when I get tiger, will I still be able to use pro? or would I apple make me buy it again?

mpeg2 component for quicktime

Anyone know whether i can use the 6.4 mpeg2 component on quicktime 7?

comments on QT7??? Any problems to be reported?

Also why would you upgrade to Pro? What are the advantages???? Thanks

yeah how does this work? do they email you the key or... i thought it was instant that you would get PRO after paying.

Did anyone notice

That the Download Cache is a default high 200 MB and can go up to a couple of Gigs. Was it always this high, or should I take this as something new is coming, like large video files over the net??? Pic included.

Other than the fact that none of the media on my QTSS will stream with QT7, it seems to be working just fine.

The 3-5 days shipping is confusing but after you purchase it, it shows you the serial number on the receipt that you can use to upgrade your recently downloaded Quicktime 7.

If you missed the serial number then don't worry, it will show up your in Inbox. You have to scroll near the bottom of the message.
