The 3-5 days shipping is confusing but after you purchase it, it shows you the serial number on the receipt that you can use to upgrade your recently downloaded Quicktime 7.

If you missed the serial number then don't worry, it will show up your in Inbox. You have to scroll near the bottom of the message.

You should also be able to log into your order history on Apple's web site...it keeps a record of software keys for stuff like Quicktime.

There was nothing in the print out from the "thank you for your order" page and nothing in the confirmation e-mail either.

AHHH thanks for clearing that up.

i think someone just asked this but:

is there any difference between QT7 between 10.3.9 vs 10.4?

new content

personally, i've been waiting for Apple to release new content in H.264, to really see how improved it is. so far, there's nothing on the site, except this..

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/hdgallery/

the page doesn't seem to be up yet, as it's currently giving me the new specialized for Quicktime "Are you looking for something?" page.. but the link for the HD Gallery is on this page.. hopefully by tonight we'll have some nice HD to try out on our computers.

Recording video using Quicktime 7 from the iSight camera produces a small file size but somewhat fuzzy video that reminds me of Microsoft Media 9 video. The compression is done in realtime at least. I use a Powermac G5.

is this the same quicktime 7 that tiger buyers get? I thought that was only going to be offered as part of tiger.

does anyone know if this is the same QT7 as tiger's?

According to the Quicktime web page, the requirement is 10.1.5 or later, not Panther.

No problem. Log into the Apple Store using the Review your Account link and then click Software Download Purchases. It will list all your keys.

I must be missing something...

Some of the users here have mentioned upgrading to QuickTime Pro 7,
but I don't understand what all the hubbub is about.

If I import video into iMovie, edit, then Share... from there, I can encode
to H.264 (takes awhile, but it's crunching now) and view in the QuickTime
player.

I've also found through FCE that I can add chapter markers that QT player
can understand.

So... why would I want QT Pro 7? What does it do that I care about enough
to spend $30?

second or third....

BTW, yes, I downloaded the GM from the net, but I also got my boxed copy yesterday. I shrinkwrapped it, and am Going to keep it as a collectible. "Original Boxed copy of the world's first mass-market 64 bit OS." How much will that be worth in 2050?

Actually, the second or third or fourth mass market 64-bit OS.

Windows XP for x86 was released on Monday, so all the AMD64/EM64T systems have a 64-bit Windows (with 64-bit GUI support, unlike OSX's terminal-only 64-bit support). http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/default.mspx

Windows XP for IA64 was released over two years ago. It's a mass-market OS, although for niche hardware. http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2003/mar03/03-28WinXP64BitPR.asp

THen of course there's 64-bit Linux, which has significant desktop market share.... (that is, lots of Linux 32-bit desktops)

Quicktime 7 bug?

Hi,

been testing QT7 Pro - looks good but every time I play an mp4 movie (full screen or not), if I click and hold the on-screen fast-forward control, when the mouse is released to stop the process, QT7 crashes. Have sent the logs to Apple but am curious to see if anyone else has encountered this? Dual 2 GHz PowerMac...

Without so much as a hint of problem from QT 7. Got my pro key this morning, and everything is working fantastic. I'm really waiting for the QT website to start carrying H.264 encoded trailers. Insofar as I can tell, Tiger is quite the speed demon, on everything from my G4/450, to my friend's Mini, to my 2.5 Dualie. hah! smart

this is what i love. little cool things that escape the rumor sites radars. now downloading 7 for Panther. still gutted that the router problem still exists in Tiger, thought it might have just been limited to work on the 29th. god as my witness as soon as my downloaded Tiger works im off to Selfridges and Apple get my £60.

Now, fullscreen and saving should NOT be called "pro" features, and should not cost extra!

The fact that OSX doesn't come with a media player pre-installed that will play full-screen and won't annoy you with a pop-up ad every few days is a big joke.

And what does the ad for QT Pro say? Full-screen playback and more....
Full-screen playback is being touted as the biggest feature of QT Pro. Scam.

For the average user, QT is a piece of junk compared with what our Windows counterparts have: Windows Media Player. No full-screen, very few codecs, and an annoying pop-up ad to boot.

As a media content producer, I will have to laugh at that statement.

What about Final Cut Pro HD and Quicktime 7

Has anyone upgraded to Tiger and/or the standalone Quicktime 7 and had problems with Final Cut Pro HD? The reason I ask is that Final Cut Pro HD uses Quicktime 6 Pro ... I was wondering if there are any problems using FCP HD with Tiger and Quicktime 7.

I'd hate to upgrade to Tiger and then see FCP HD crap out and I loose a lot of hard work that I put into several projects. Can anyone provide feedback? I don't think I'll upgrade to Tiger without knowing this information.

Thanks!

Look at the phones

Notice the two phones on Quicktime's Mobile page

Now we have heard that iTunes would be on Motorola's RAZR, but the other phone is a Sony P910a. Perhaps mobile iTunes on Sony Ericsson phones too?

h.264 encoding blows

H.264 encoding is annoying. I'm running it in high, automatic keyframes, frame reordering, and IMA 4:1 audio compression. It takes FOREVER to encode anything, about 10-20x slower than MPEG4 encoding. The edges on subjects in the videos get streaky (like a fuzzy edge of grouped lines) and it looks little better than MPEG4. Any advice for me? I'm re-encoding video imported from Final Cut Express from a DV camera.

Does anyone know if a QuickTime 7 Pro purchase is worth it? AND, if I were to purchase it, would I be able to use it on my Windows machine, my dads windows machine, and a *future* PowerBook?

Realplayer

you can alway full screen quicktime movie files in real player.

Nope, tried it. A QT Pro license code purchased for a Mac will not work on a Windows machine. As for using it on multiple Macs, yes, that will work (at least it did).

Well, accept Tiger isn't a 64-bit OS and even if it were, it certainly isn't the first. There are numerous threads on the topic. Tiger certainly has some specific 64-bit features on a G5, but it's not a 64-bit OS, as the term is commonly used.
