QT7 and iTunes freeze upon launch

Sounds like something happened with your QuickTime 7 installation.

Download this: (link) and run it to revert to QuickTime 6.52. Reboot when asked, then download and run this: (link) to reinstall QuickTime 7.0. Should work.

Nope, I tried this and everything else to no avail, I had to do an archive and install. Reverting back to 6.5.2 worked for QT but still no iTunes, then going back to QT7 also did not work. A friend of mine had same problem, the only thing we can think of is that we are both running Pro Tools LE, maybe there is some kind of conflict? My wifes powerbook updated fine, no PT on there. I am afraid to try it again because it is such a long process to get it back to where I am now before the update. Any ideas??

Thanks

^ Same deal here. Revert to QT6.5.2 fixes QT Player but not iTunes. Subsequent attempts at QT7 install fail. I am also running ProTools LE 6.x.

Here is a fix from the Digidesign User Conference that won't give you QT7 but claims to repair iTunes (I have not tried this yet.)

And if you don't have a DUC account, here is the leading post:

Anyone who has recently upgraded to Quicktime 7.0 that uses a Digidesign/ Pro Tools product. i.e. MBox, Digi 001 (Like Me), Digi 002 Rack or Mixer has probably run into compatibility issues. Apparently so has everyone else.

Basically the problem has been that the new Quicktime freezes, and takes ITunes with it, when you also have Pro Tools loaded on OSX 10.3.9. Some have remedied this by disconnecting their Digidesign hardware, but it's a temp fix only.

Apple has issued a Quicktime 6.5.2 Re-Installer for anyone who's havimg trouble with the new Quicktime. Here is the link

Quicktime 6.5.2 Re-Installer

It will take care of the Quicktime problem, but not the ITunes problem. Re-Installing ITunes will not solve this. You must go to your Digidesign Folder and enter your Digidesign Core Audio Setup then remove ITunes. At this point ITunes should work fine. Now your going to have to Re-Intall the Digidesign Core Audio Setup. Hope this helps. Hope it catches you before you pull out your hair like I almost did.

Well, I just downloaded batman begins in mov and madagascar. Both are the same resolution, but Madagascar clocks in at 1:55 and 57.5 megs HD Divx, while Batman is 2:24 at 116 megs. Twice as big, not twice as long? Don't tell me that divx is better than this brand new codec.

On a positive note, the HD avi plays maybe half speed in mplayer, and something like a frame every 10 seconds in quicktime, while Batman plays full speed.

I have a Dual 1Ghz G4, the first Quicksilver with Dual 1Ghz...running 9800 Pro and only 1 gig of ram. Downloaded the 1080p footage...plays pretty choppy, so i guess it works on our slower machines, just not fast enough. The regular streaming HD works ok...not smooth but good enough to get a peak at what's coming out. It seems that they can refine QT7 a little more and maybe the slower machines can actually play the HD footage somewhat better. It seemed to me that it's smoother fast forwarding than playing it...

The G4 front-side bus speed is not fast enough to decode through 1920x1080 pixel video 24 times a second. The super-scalar architecture of the G5 and hypertransport makes mince-meat of H.264.

Can anyone confirm if the Quicktime Update app works? Under the QuickTime System Preference, click the Update tab and the Update... button.

I tried this on both Panther, and Tiger today when I upgraded. The update icon bounces once then quits.

Well I finally had to reinstall Quicktime 6.5.2 on my iBook running OS 10.3.9

When I tried playing quicktime movies through the interweb I got a queer quicktime logo with a question mark over it. Nothing would play.

Damn it to blazes.

Hey, you're right, I have to look for some codecs, can't play some old videos (AVI Files) :( . What's up? I saw some of them yesterday with QT 6 Pro.

My computer isn't even powerful enough to run DIVX movies with Quicktime, but there's always VLC (www.videolan.org) to fall back on. It plays just about everything.

Copy QT 6.5.2 from a Panther installation. Make sure it's named something other than QuickTime Player (for example, "QuickTime 6.5.2"). Your QT 6 pro key should work in that.
