Ya know, when I first heard the rumor I was feeling the same way, but now that I've digested it, and especially seen they are including an adapter and headphones, I'm just shrugging my shoulders. I actually don't think it's bad they are pushing the industry in this direction.

Hilarious. They include the new headphones and a tiny adapter in the box, and the macrumors whining continues.

A dongle for a smartphone? Come on! This isn't a retina MacBook, it's a portable device that should have all required functionality built in. It's ridiculous to suggest that this removal is acceptable and disingenuous for anybody suggest the pro-headphone lobby should go elsewhere if it doesn't suit.

I was hoping for a surprise. Plenty of prominent posters on this site insisted there would be something amazing. There wasn't.

I was even hoping the airports would pan out. IMO they look incredibly silly (literally EarPods with wires cut off, aesthetically?). They also don't seem like they will work very well for the gym for me...

Oh well. Apple Watch series two look like it's finally worth my money. :)

I wouldn't go as far as to say RIP but it's definitely the first time I've been disappointed by an iPhone launch. It's a pretty half hearted attempt in all honesty.

On the plus side it has made my upgrade cheaper this time around as i'll be getting an iPhone 6S which is more than capable of giving me a decent service for my needs.

Respectfully, this is about the only legitimate recommendation anyone can give. I'm not jazzed about this either but... what would be a better response to your dilemma? The phone is now official. Take it or leave it.

I've just fired off an email to tcook@apple.com pointing out how courageous Apple has been and that they should be less courageous and return the jack to its rightful place for the post-phone 7 generation in 2017. Hopefully others will do the same.
